I’ll take this over a Model X in a heartbeat, especially because of the interior, Tesla’a interiors look very cheap and basic, especially with that big ass screen in the middle, the I Pace’s interior looks amazing, plus the design is amazing as well.

After considering both a Tesla Model 3 and the Jaguar I-Pace, I choose the I-Pace because first it is a much better build car than the Model 3 (and probably any Tesla). The real life range of the I-Pace is somewhere between a M3 SR and M3 LR which is good enough for 99% of my driving (around 700-900 km per week). Apart from some little software glitches now and then (the Eco Data screen sometimes shows average speed in Mph instead of Km/h for a time before correcting itself, the car has been flawless. No issues whatsever, no rattles, no squeaks. Excellent seats, good visibility, very sporty ride (although suspension could be firmer for me). And yes, the I-Pace uses more than a Model 3 or Kona or Niro, but that really isn't surprising. A sporty car with a V8 will also consume more than a economy car like a VW Polo. What would you expect? If you don't like that, buy the Polo. So, here, a happy owner (for the record, the car is mine, not a company leased car) and enjoying the I-Pace.

Me too. But I don't like the price, the production numbers, worst efficiency of any EVs, slow charging speed (comparing to real competitors, Tesla) and the lack of rapid charging network which would give at least a decent rapid charging speed. The current 50 kW CCS is a snail for a 90 kWh battery.

The reason for the IPace existence is lack of buttons in Teslas. What I mean by that is the simplicity of Teslas isn't just a differentiation from other brands but a way to make the company keep going until the point where it became an actual threat for the established manufacturers. And manufacturers are trying to keep up. By way, I prefer actual buttons. 😉 Reply me with facts and politeness.
@davidbeppler3032
@davidbeppler3032 6 лет назад
MuitoDaora the glove box does not have a button for security reasons when you rent your TM3 out while you are not using it. Most cars spend 90% of their time parked. Tesla wants you to be able to send it out like a Uber when you do not need it, making you money. With a 20 year battery and about a million miles motor the wear and tear would be minimal.
@MuitoDaora

The I-PACE is quite a bit smaller than both the Model S and X. Size-wise, it's more comparable to a "SUV-ified" Model 3. The I-PACE doesn't really directly compare directly to any of the Teslas, it lies kinda in the middle of them all. So if the I-PACE is the better choice for you really depends on what you are looking for in a car, and the I-PACE seems to be a damn good one www.cars.com/research/compare/?acodes=USC80TSS011A0,USC80TSC024A0,USC70TSC031A0,USC90JAS031A0

The i-Pace actually has the longest wheelbase of all of them, and the combined head and leg room is, on paper, bigger than the S or the X. (Even the Model 3's head and legroom is bigger than the S and the X on paper). The S and the X are both wider tho' (The X is something like 7" wider than the Jag - even if you cut the X's mirrors off, you can't fit it through a 2m width restrictor)

It's a real Tesla competitor for sure, but Tesla have still got the Supercharger network on their side. They make the entire experience of owning an EV convenient and easy, whereas other EVs have to make do with the UK's shockingly bad, fragmented and frustrating charging infrastructure - but that will change itself within the next few years. 2019/2020 will see an enormous shift towards EVs.

I think the reason is that the jaguar is a smoother transition from the petrol car to the electric car. I think that the tesla design of the interiors (one gigantic flat screen no button approach) and of the exterior and the case of the model x with its back doors is just trying very hard to revolutionise everything in one go.it feels just a little bit less as a driver car and more like a transportation system... Don't get me wrong, i love tesla style but I just think it can alienate some people.

A 24 to one ratio of gasoline to battery ...this difference is huge...for the weight of one Tesla 85Kw battery, one could have 171 gallons of gasoline on board, enough for 5000 miles worth of range...Do the math... I don't know a lot about batteries but what I do know that after a year of use on my cell phone the battery performance is about 30% reduced (actually being conservative here). Lithium Ion in my phone and the same in these cars right. Will electric cars be useless after a few years of long distance travel? Will the batteries that produced a max distance of, let's say 350 miles at max charge, only be able to give 250 miles after a few years of heavy use?

"But still my brain keeps reminding me to stop prodding the throttle you're going to leave us stranded you imbecile" This is why EV's need to be reviewed by EV people and not petrolheads. Anyone EV owner with an ounce of knowledge will know that the range predictor or GOM as it is known (Gess O Meter) will actually increase your range if you lighten up on the accelerator. A petrol car can only ever display WHAT FUEL is left in the tank whereas an EV can actually slow down the power usage by regenerative braking and less "proddy" use of the accelerator.

5:33 - Either that vehicle is positively gigantic or that presenter is very tiny. It almost looks like he's green-screened in front of the vehicle but they got the 'distance' wrong. Also, the world of automotive journalism needs more pro-EV (and EV-experienced) writers and presenters so we can get past things like range anxiety statements and 'would I buy this over that petrol-gulping thing over there? No, probably not.' This guy seems more balanced than many but it still seems as though he's making an effort to be 'on the side of EV'.
@MathsYknow
@MathsYknow 6 лет назад
I hope you mean the world of automotive journalism needs more unbiased (rather than pro-EV) writers and presenters. I would stop watching a provider's content if I felt they had been taken over by the PC brigade and were using videos as a tool to advance their agenda of forcing us into EVs.
@MarcCoteMusic
@MarcCoteMusic 6 лет назад
Maths - No, I mean pro-EV. There's a journalistic responsibility to do fair reviews, of course, but there's no lack of reviewers who love petrol-powered vehicles. Much as I hope to trust them to give me a fair review of this or that ICE car, it seems a stretch to get some people to discard years, perhaps decades of petrol-loving bias. Not that that is inherently bad... we like what we like. As a for instance, if someone prefers train travel to airplane travel, are they wrong? No, of course not. It's just a preference. An automotive journalist need not be considered wrong to prefer petrol-powered cars to EVs, but I want to hear from journalists who prefer EVs to ICE.

Marc Cote: I hated what he said about worrying about the range when the battery has 150 miles on it but he does not worry if he only had 50 miles in his gas car. It reminded me of my mom who would get very nervous if the fuel gauge showed only half a tank of gas when we were on the I-75 with gas stations every 10 miles or less. She was scared of running out while the car could still do 200 miles. People really don't understand what their cars can and can not do in real life.
@RohanIyer
@RohanIyer 6 лет назад
Marc Cote if a reviewer enjoys ICE powered cars over EVs (most do, as they provide more fun than straight-line acceleration), you cannot legitimately claim that he’s being biased. It’s the nature of the car in question that’s being discussed here. But good luck on your mission to skew automotive journalism.

Chris Timbers , these are old arguments, there is no reason why we cannot shift to sustainable energy . Many cities already have mandates, S.F. is to be more than 60% I believe by 2025. As for the materials that go into the batteries, they are very valuable and 100% recyclable. Tesla has already limited to a tiny amount , the quantity of cobalt used in the batteries. With the exception of their source of Lithium, which comes from Mexico, Tesla is almost completely sourced and built in America, a true American auto. The technology going into these autos is really something to behold. As mentioned, I have had many sports cars over the years, none of them even come close to the Model 3 I am driving now.

+Türkay what's needed is the true next generation of battery that replaces lithium ion, and it IS coming. When it does the battery's will hold at least 2.5x the energy, have way longer recharge cycles and will be able to charge much much faster. There's about 30 different new battery techs being developed right now and I predict one of them will be widely commercially available by 2028

Current battery technology is great ! I have a 320 mile range in the Model 3. We can travel anywhere in the U.S. via the Supercharger network that is a pleasure to use. It’s actually great on long trips as it gives you time to stop, rest and meet other EV owners. At home I plug in and have a full charge every day for the equivalent of $1.00 a gallon of gas. When I go to the Tesla roof with Powerwalls, cost will be modest. Best of all I never have to deal with the gas station again, the smell and getting gas and oil on my hands and clothes.

Only downside I read and hear is a lack of charging stations, up to 8hrs charge if this is correct, til more charging stations became available, even at your place of work, to charge whilst working, as person's living in flats, on road parking with no option to charge from a charger fitted to their home's is a issue to resolve to the future of electric or (your local city jag dealership would collect your ev from your home, to take it to the dealership with a charge station at their dealership, for you.. to charge it for 8hrs, and then return it to you once charged up or a courtesy car whilst yours charge) with a focus on a build of lower charging time's, also, but I love it, and the best styling of a electric car, I've seen at present

spazzman90 -- Lol, you must be driving in a NEDC test lab. You are not getting 150 miles from a 30 kWh battery in all environmental conditions at constant 70-75 mph. Get real mate. If you want EVs to replace ICEVs, they have to be road trip ready, and step up from the commuter car use case.
@maximilianholland

David Knowles -- er, would that be the EPA, the WLTP or the NEDC stated range? All are complete BS for 75mph highway driving in non-fantasy conditions. Take 70% of EPA for realistic highway driving range in a variety of non-ideal conditions.

I'm really pleased Jaguar have made the iPace, I really am, but even a base model Tesla S 75D for £65K beats it hands-down. Aside from the industry-leading safety of a Model S/X, the cutting edge chemistry in the batteries, the OTA updates, the huge base level tech, the enormous storage space, the front boot, the handling etc etc etc....the biggest advantage is the incredible Supercharger network, which you get for FREE, and can drive from the top of Norway to the south of Portugal with, and many more places besides. Without that critical fast-charging network, long-range driving becomes a big hassle. No Tesla owner is ever going to downgrade to an I-Pace, but that said it's not really for Tesla owners it's for Jaguar die-hards who won't go EV unless there's a Jag that's EV. And that's fine, I know people who say the same about Alfa, or BMW, or so I applaud Jaguar and hope they sell an absolute truckload of them. Congrats to them for making what seems to be a decent EV. But can we not have any more pointless Tesla-bashing. Jealously will get you nowhere.

The I pace looks pure quality inside, whilst the Tesla interior is cheap and plasticky. That’s maybe because the jag has decades of heritage, whereas the Tesla is just a recent techy car, and just don’t have the build experience of other established cars.

Good effort Jaguar I like the red seats. Looks like a good all round EV that compares well with Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt and Hyundai Ionic, the only problem is this car costs twice as much but doesn't offer anything more than a Nissan Leaf. Any informed EV buyer will definitely go for a Tesla at this price point as the Ipace is lacking in the Tech department in a big way. Die hard Jag people will buy but most EV buyers want the best and the best EV is a Tesla. Nice car though, looks the part aside from the silly grill.
@sebastiannolte1201
@sebastiannolte1201 6 лет назад
"but doesn't offer anything more than a Nissan Leaf. " Are you kidding? Even if they were ICE-cars, they would be totally different and it would be normal that the Jag is more expense. Nobody would say, that it doesn't offer more than the Nissan. And when it comes to special EV features: The battery is more than twice as big and so the range far bigger. And you can charge faster.
@micmag2375
@micmag2375 6 лет назад
Sebastian Nolte I see your point but to me it's closer to a Nissan Leaf than it is to a new Tesla, things like automatic tailgate aren't even standard and there is no self driving hardware. I can't see how the Ipace would be attractive to buyers when they can get more for less with Tesla. If you add some of the options which are standard on Model S and X, the Ipace price gets pricey. Hopefully the build quality will be it's advantage but jaguar aren't known for great quality lately. Still an amazing car though as are the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt. Nice to know we are moving forward and our kids can breath cleaner air.

@THEREALZENFORCE
@THEREALZENFORCE 6 лет назад
@ 4n0n1m0u3 : Autobild is like the Bild in Germany, it's among the worst journalism in Germany. Autobild even claimed years ago an upcoming Audi R4 with fake photoshopped pictures as claimed true version. 2018 and still no Audi R4 released llike Autobild claimed. Never has a Tesla the built quality of a BMW or an Audi even less from a Mercedes and even less the same quality of a same priced Porsche, just in your Tesla fanboy dreams.A quick google of Tesla issues or Tesla problems or Tesla reliability issues will cure your claims (even from Tesla buyers on Tesla forums).But I agree with you that they are making improvements.But overpriced Teslac have the built quality of a Seat, Renault or Citroën maybe the quality of a Skoda or VW (but Tesla does it for twice the price due costs of expensive batteries). And the Model 3 interior is just a joke. In Luxembourg, Germany and France, people I know are laughing about it. And in Western Europe that bad quality car will cost 50000 euros at least properly equipped. Sorry but people here will buy an Audi S3 new, an A-Class AMG line new (or A45 ÂMG used) or Audi A4 Avant or Audi S5 used or BMW X1 new, or Porsche Cayman S used for that price before buying a Tesla Model 3.
@yanande675
@yanande675 6 лет назад
It´s clear that they had issues in the past but they improved much. I´m not a Fanboy i just believe the largest german car magazin more than a quick Google research. I was sitting in multiple Teslas and there was no built quality issues at all. Check out the Doug de Mouro Review of the BMW i3 he sais its worser quality than the Model 3. And by the way Porsche has stoped their sales in Europe because of Toxic Regulations and so does Audi, Mercedes and BMW. A4, A6, A7, 7 Series, some of the Mercedes C and E Class Models and many others Production has now been stoped. German Car Industrie is going a really bad way in the Moment and their build quality wont save them at all..

Do you put that down to the in house battery design or the motors?

Which isn't exactly revolutionary or affordable. It isnt the 'new model T' that some people think it is. I give credit to Jag for making the i-pace. Its a totally new design of luxury vehicle that was clearly designed around its electric platform. Rather than Audis offerings which are just standard saloons with electric power trains. Its even braver when you consider that Jag hasn't got the level of finances that Audi has, and yet its produced this and brought it to market first. Well done Jag!

Keep talking about the ipace like they will actually build any. Tesla is building almost 5,000 EV's a week. How many is Jaguar building? 12? Keep an eye on the cheap batteries Jaguar is using too. Wonder how long they will last?
@cros13
@cros13 6 лет назад
I-Pace production is limited to a few thousand this year and 12,000 for 2019 because LG Chem can't supply the batteries to JLR to make any more than that. JLR has put out tenders for cylindrical cells equivalent to ~130,000 vehicles of ~90kWh for 2022/2023. But that quantity isn't far off total global production for the 2nd and 3rd largest manufacturers combined so any responses they get will be looking for matching funding from JLR for building that kind of production capacity. People seem to forget that making any EV, especially something approaching affordable is "all about the battery, stupid". A traditional car manufacturer couldn't hit Tesla's production numbers for many years simply because the production capacity to provide the batteries they need isn't there. Hyundai/Kia has a 12 month waiting list for the Ioniq (launched 2016 and not even in all planned markets yet) & Kona (which hasn't even shipped yet) and despite LG Chem and SK Innovations doubling their battery supply the list keeps growing. For context, Hyundai/Kia's "doubled" battery supply last year was around 10% of Tesla's battery supply.
