Loves seeing that they an into Perkins Brothers. My 2 favorite "build it/fix it" channels. Have been silently hoping for a while now for a Perkins Brother collab when they get ready to frame the main house. Crossing fingers...hope it happen!!
I love that window with the bracket and rail system! Ever since I installed the Panasonic bathroom fan system that goes together like legos, I've realized that the more work they do at the factory, the less work I have to do at home. Make everything modular and slide in on rails, I say. Bring on the easy installation of windows!!!
glad at least some companies that build IOT lights and things with local control somewhat in mind instead of pushing every device to the cloud, but that door with the integrated ring would be better off with a doorbell that doesn't require a subscription to use effectively. I hope companies will honestly when they build "smart home" devices focus more towards local control and open source applications like Home assistant
I wonder if there's any way to change it out or if it's absolutely a fixed fit to the Ring. I'd love to be able to get a door w/ a (mostly) flush-fit for my Unifi doorbell
Local controls are always the best, plus on a security standpoint it's not a loophole for hacking unless you are really close by... (tho nanny cam and nest cams are just best not to have either way ... or any internet enabled + linked IOT device)
Natural dimming led bulbs, what they called dim to warm, were introduced by Phillips way back. Technology connections has a video on it bc he likes his dimming lights.
We almost went to IBS this year, but I went to World of Concrete instead. Sad we missed yall this year, but WoC was neat and informative for us so we can grind and polish our own concrete in out new shops. Thanks for the content yall.
With all these amazing products, I think listing some products that the Stud Pack team has used, would like to use, and would recommend (maybe a budget selection too) on your website would be a good idea. For used products, you could link the YT video.
Paul and Jordan - I’d say don’t fret over rain screens. I had no idea about rain-screens myself. I had an older house here in super wet soggy Seattle. It had Cedar lap siding over some really weak flimsy tar paper stapled directly to the studs. Zero water issues. Looking at the monopoly framing now… it seems like people are blowing it out of proportion. It’s like worrying about a suspended strap being a touch loose on a belt and suspenders system. If you guys are really worried about it maybe call Rodda a call and see if their paints with polyurethane would work in this situation. I know they are the high end for wet rainy Seattle.
Damn, why didn't you invite me? I'm jealous lol. Just kidding, glad to see that you are having a great time. I was probably the lead commentator who suggested a rain-screen type system. However, I suggested using 1/2" battens. For your build, the ZIP rain screen or similar product would probably suffice. That being said, using battens is the Lexus system that has been proven over the years. There are now specialized battens that are designed for this purpose. Using battens is more work, but it is as much as you think. You can use blocks under your horizontal trim pieces to pop them out and still allow air circulation past the horizontal trim areas. The primary danger of using a batten rain-screen system behind your cladding is that you are using more fasteners, so it very important to make sure you seal each fastener head. On battens, you can run a caulk line down the back of each batten before you install it, and it will seal nails coming through the battens into the studs. But even if you miss a row of nails and don't seal the penetrations, the batten system is forgiving because any water that gets under the siding will quickly drain to the bottom of the wall. So it does not have time to work its way through the fastener penetrations that are not sealed. I did not suggest the batten system to criticize you or hurt you. I suggested it to help you. Your architect should have caught this detail when he specified the wall systems, but unfortunately, architects often miss important details. I am one of your biggest fans; you are amazing. I would like to see your subscriber base get to a million very quickly.
I know nothing about construction, but I watch all your videos. And I smile, a lot. Your presentation style is captivating, genuine, and real. Your production values are excellent. I always feel uplifted after watching everything you do. Kudos to you, and keep up the great work!!
Just happened to be in Vegas last week for a different work convention.. Was hoping to come by and visit at the show but glad your bringing some of it to all of us!
I usually don't watch these videos the products are cool but because it was y'all I did man you guys have come a long way in a short amount of time. Congratulations
When my dad was building, he never missed the IBS. He would have loved all the new innovations. Thanks for the heads up on the new products. I am building my list of "must haves" for our future home.
Uncle Tom (Selleck) would be disappointed at the lack of mustache between the two of you. 😔 I was a huge Magnum PI fan so pass that on to him if you would. 🙏👍 Cool video fellas. Neat to see some innovations in the industry and you see the two of you having fun. Father and son time is limited. I know all too well as we all do. Thanks, as always, for sharing. 🙏👍
Thanks! He's my cousin actually (no lie), distant cousin but related. I was at LSU in early 80s and everyone called me Tom Paul 😁 never missed an episode, Simon & Simon was on right after 👍💪🤙
@StudPack I'm so sorry I missed this reply. Thanks for responding Paul. I'm a big fan and I'm glad you got the joke and I'm even more surprised that you're actually related. That's awesome. I loved both of those shows. I'm actually gonna download some Simon and Simon. I can hear the theme song in my head now. lol. The guitar licks. Dream garage is lookin awesome. You guys do a great job and I learn a lot from you and Jordan. I'm really sorry I'm just seeing this response now Tom Paul. 😉 Take care. 👍🫡
Thanks again guy’s for inviting us to go with you on the road to Las Vegas… it’s awesome to see some of the new stuff that is out or coming out. I know for myself that the halo lighting is well needed in my house. Thanks again guy’s and keep up the wonderful work that you do!
Loves seeing that you ran into Perkins Brothers. My 2 favorite "build it/fix it" channels. Have been hoping for a while now for a Perkins Brother collab when you get ready to frame the main house. Crossing fingers...make it happen!!
Damm Stud Pack kicking away all the competintion, as always ;) Love watching your videoes, and Im glad yall had a good time over there man! Looking forward to sering more from the Studrage!
HALO getting these guys as a sponsor before their channel gets huge is one of the best marketing decisions ever. Kudos to the marketing person at HALO that had that vision.
@8:00 Perkins Builder Brothers! This and the Perkins Builder Brothers youtube channel are pretty much the only home construction channels I watch, lol.
Same. Am subscribed to both and look forward to the new content. I keep thinking how awesome it would be for a Perkins Bro collab when they get ready to frame the house.
Paul didn’t ask this time but I’m still going to install some Halo lights and a Pella window on my Like button, then seal it with some Sashco Exact Color right before I SMASH IT!!! Great video guys!! 💯👊👍🏼
its cool to go WAY back and see Paul on camera early on. He has become a true professional on camera. Always like to see progress on the house, but this was a great change of pace!
As an electrician from Europe it's always nice to get a sneak peak of some of the cool, commonly available, lighting solutions I get to use in a few years. Love watching your videos as I get to learn about construction in a different field and I find that super interesting. 😎
Ok so I buy a Masonite smart door. In 15 years or so when something craps out, like the doorbell or smart lock, is anyone going to be able to supply parts? Ditto on Schlutter built in LED strips and drivers. Beware of single source proprietary cute stuff that may have been a fad.
Ring Doorbell isn't going anywhere and smart locks will be around for the rest of our lifetime. Ditto on LED strips and drivers. Just because it's proprietary doesn't mean it's impossible to fix or solve.
I am not sure about Ring having parts in 15 years that will work and fit into that door. Smart Locks will probably be around but will compatable parts or replacements be around?
Matt totally dodged the "I think I can share some of the blame with you" and was just like, "I always suggest it!". Wonder what the back story is here.... Guessing Matt just doesn't actually always use rain screens but said otherwise since he was partnered w/ Zip at their booth. Left Paul hanging a bit 😅
Rather than a murphy bed (or maybe in addition to ) I think that a loft option over the back sliding doors / windows would serve better over the long term. Perhaps an angled 'floorprint' (i.e. footprint) with wide on the bathroom wall side narrow to nothing on the stair 'up side. That way you can have a bachelor bed space while still having a guest space. You guys are GREAT. As another commenter stated, you are too good in that you actually convince me that I can do this.....( riiiiigggghht )
These guys are total class act people. It was great meeting you guys in Vegas at IBS. Keep up the great content. My students love it. - Ohio school teacher and his dad.
I wonder if the boys realize how lucky they are to have Paul as their awesome Dad? I love all you guys, keep the videos coming! Great to see all the new products that are going to be available soon.
The Studpack family keeps growing because of the great content. And seeing the three of you working together. Rad Brad only had 2 seconds this video????
Definitely a lot of good things to see. Finally a doorway that has a light next to the lock! Lighting has come along way in the last few years. Thanks for taking us along
For some reason I'd never known your surname. Now I'm thinking Tom Selleck. LOL. That Pella system looks awesome. I wonder if they sell just the brackets to retrofit on windows that don't come with that system. Ooh, Paul beat the top scores of other people as well! Excellent! I really want those steady set brackets for when I install windows in my house. LOL. Those were some very cool products. I'd love to get the light that will illuminate the counter without looking too bright from above. Thank you for filming this!
