FIRST LOOK: Swamp Thing By Nancy A. Collins Omnibus! 

Thank you for the wonderful review! I'm just as surprised as you are that it was finally collected after all this time. And to answer your question--yes, I wanted to take over HELLBLAZER after my run on SWAMP THING, but was told no by editorial because I wasn't from the UK. FYI, I was nominated for an Eisner for my work on the title my first year, but did not win.

HECK YEAH! How truly fortunate that this omnibus didn't get cancelled. Sure hope New 52 Nightwing, Batgirl, Batman by Paul Dini and others get the same luck. 😁

I read those issues back then and bought the Omnibus when it was solicited recalling how great that run is. Watching this video made me put it on top of my going to read eventually stack. As of my writing this, the Omnibus is in second print which is good news!

I have never heard of this run, but whoah it looks and sounds good.

I wish DC would release John Ostrander’s Spectre series from the 90’s in its entirety it’s rare. I wanted to ask you about the Excalibur Omni in the solicits they say it contains issues 1-48 and on Amazon they say issues 1-34 so which one is correct? Issues 1-48 seems to be quite high considering there are the specials contained as well.

Very excited for this omnibus. Swampy is my favorite comic book character. Immediate buy for me! Awesome video, as usual. Wish they would put out Moore's run in omni form with original colors, too. I have the early trades and the new Absolute, but I want an oversized version with original colors. Can you make a call for me, Omar? Lol.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing a look at this video. Having the Black Label imprint instead of Vertigo is surprising, but DC is clearly done with the Vertigo label (even though it will undoubtedly keep work from that era in print) and the Black Label is what it now considers it's "Mature Line". When you think of it that way, it makes perfect sense. I've read the Bronze age Omnibus and the Alan Moore run, so I'm glad DC put this book out. I think nearly all of Swamp Thing is now in collected format?

This would have been, and still is a day one purchase. This is one of the more beautiful Omnis that DC has released. I've never read anything Swamp thing, but I picked up the bronze age omnibus and the Absolute Swamp Thing because the artwork is gorgeous! I hope the stories are just as good.

Great Video Omar! I ended up getting the Bronze Age Swamp thing omni it’s awesome. I highly recommend as it’s not cheesy and actually creepy much like the marvel horror omnis. I’ve got this on order as well as Swap thing is one of my favourite characters. At the same time was able to pick up Sandman omni vol 1 and 2 brand new both for $80. SCORE!! lol

The exterior art (covers, pinups etc) of Swamp Thing is always so amazing that I'd love the interior to be the same (not that it's bad)...like if an Alex Ross type did the entire art and they really took their time and didn't worry about weekly/monthly release schedules.

That is real art at 9:48, all those colors. That looks awesome.

This is one of those that i probably wasn't going to check out but am now.

I haven't preordered but have had this book in my planner to pickup for some time now. I was just getting back into comics when these issues were coming out (until I started having kids and dropped out again). Omnis this month on my list is this one, ASM Vol 2, Black Widow and Wolverine reprint. I wonder when virus slows down if all these come out at the same time since I'm sure they all have already been printed and are stockpiling.

This looks absolutely stunning and have always wanted to read this run. Will definitely be buying this day one. Though I wish they still kept the vertigo logo instead of just slapping the new Black Label on these classic runs. RIP Vertigo.

At the time Hellblazer was being written by British authors since he was a British character. Collins did a job job writing him in Swamp Thing but she was not British. The first American, and to my knowledge the only American, to write Hellblazer was Brian Azzarello. And that was only for a year if I remember correctly. Collins has not written very many comics and that is surprising considering how talented she is. Her last work was on Vampirella for Dynamic Comics. It was this run that lead me to seek out Sunglasses After Dark and Sonja Blue.

Nancy said on a recent live stream that she wanted to do Hellblazer after Swamp Thing but they wanted her to do Animal Man. In the end she did Dhampire: Stillborn. Also, I just wanted to thank you for all your amazing videos and being the one who got me into comics. As a 27 year old who struggles with severe mental illness issues, getting into comics as been a great way to cope. I thank you very much, keep up the amazing work :)

Hi Omar! I wonder if you could give some advise how to keep our precious Omnibuses in a good quality so they lasts forever. I mean they are big, heavy, take a lot of room and could be vulnerable if you don't treat and keep them safe. Maybe do a video or not?

Interesting book. Issue #113 was nominated* for an Eisner award. Some Risqué plant love at 5:54. It's horrible what happened to Jaaska. He was so talented but lived a tormented life. A lot of times when we're younger, we idolize people or put them on a pedestal for their accomplishments or something we admire. Artists, usually have some sort of inherent troubles which guide their art or causes them to use art as an escape. When buying the comics themselves or these omnibuses (omniboos), you don't know what's going on. Art and the stories can sometimes reflect ebb and flow in their lives. We also don't know how much of the profit actually goes to team that makes these. For all we known, these artist and writers are in squalor or worse. My hope is that they are compensated well for their work or able to seek the assistance they need. Will leave that discussion for another day. Nice review Omar! I may pick this one up once the financial cloud clears up from this virus shutdown. Keep up the vids!

Your mention of Bill Jaaska made me look him up and I remember him from Jon Sable, Freelance (First Comics) and later New Titans. He worked with Marv Wolfman on both titles. Wolfman is a favorite writer of mine. I did not like his art on the New Titans and I think that has to do with who he was paired with because it was better on Jon Sable, Freelance. Personally I prefered Scott Eaton.

It's funny, the first few issues seem to have a ton of dialogue and writing on them, then on the later half of the book the pages seem to focus more on illustrations and action. I wonder if that's just me or if there is a reason for that

Is it good to read this as a starting point for swamp thing? Everyone keep on telling i should get the alan moore ones but sadly in uae i cant find one.... Only this nancy swamp thing is available here...

Alan Moore is a hard act to follow. I tried to continue with Rick Veitch but it wasn`t the same. Don`t even pick-up anything Swamp Thing after that. Read the Tom King / Jason Fabok Winter Special which was pretty good.

I believe this book got snagged by the Diamond Distributor cutoffs, so it will be held up for an indeterminate amount of time, despite paying for it months ago. “KHAAAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!”

I read it and it really felt like a Swamp, it was not good. Swampy jumped the shark so hard, that it was unreadable after half of it. Just imagine, Swamp thing ran for governor, totally stupid. I regret buying this omnibus.

Quick rant: Tom Mandrake doesn't get the hype he deserves. He was the best part of the 93 spectre comics. With his hypnotic line work phenomenal. Wish he was paired with more great writers

What's going on with the audio on your video?

I feel dumb. I watched a video today about a Swamp Thing Omnibus, the New 52. I purchased an older ominbus "Swamp Thing: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1", used for about $53.44. This makes three different Omnibuses. I think this same channel previewed the New 52 Omni. How about doing a video of ALL of the omnibuses for us Tards who don't follow this stuff so closely. It's pretty confusing. There are so many damned Swamp Thing titles. I only have so much free time to look at stuff to buy, so much money to blow, to waste?? I guess there is always Comics Vine to look over the various titles. I only know the old stuff from the 70's. I'm old.

The reason it doesn’t stay open at the beginning is because of the thickness of the paper. It doesn’t like to flex unless the weight of additional pages keeps it down.
