Liked the idea of using Plexiglas. Just ordered the lens and am looking forward to using it. I live in Wyoming where many flowers are small and close to the ground. Thanks for some great ideas.

I can't help wondering if you realize the 58mm and 77mm NiSi are much more different than just diameter. The 77mm is +3 diopters while the 58mm is +5 getting you much closer used on the same lens. With proper adapters either can work on FF or crop. More recently, well after you posted this, NiSi released a 49mm +9 which allows even more magnification. It comes with a 67mm adapter as well and can be used on a 400mm lens at about three times life size which is mostly good for focus stacking due to the tiny depth of field. Many people will have trouble understanding just how exact you need to be to get anything sharp in focus at even 1:1 let alone 3:1.

wow that quality is really something. I always assumed these close-up filters were just a bit of fun but couldn't produce studio quality/publishable results - I guess I'm wrong. I think I'm gonna get one because it will pair nicely with my Fuji 70-300 telephoto zoom. It's always good to find more uses out of an already capable lens (if you're budget minded).

This filter took me by surprise! I've got a 100mm macro Canon and my photos don't look that sharp. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, watts your opinion about putting that lens on a Sony 100-400? I already own a macro lens, the Sony 90mm but, sometimes, I’d like to have a longer focal lens for insects such as dragonflies. I’m practicing with manual focus so AF is not a worrying me. There’s one thing I can’t figure it out from what I’ve seen on RU-vid so far: what’s the minimum focus distance? Thanks, Fabrizio

Thanks Joe. Great suggestions. Any suggestion for flash or brackets that a flash can be attached to to use when outdoors, handholding?

I'm not seeing high quality, I'm seeing tons of CA and soft IQ. Anything optical that's on the front of the lens is going to compromise image quality. The only way I was able to get around this was by using close up filters on my Rolleiflex. MF will allow a loss of image sharpness and still look fine.

You make it sound like selling gear is some sort of evil enterprise! When I test and use equipment I like I do make a small amount of income from it (is that bad too?), but I have never recommended something that I don't really like and believe is a useful bit of gear. I have many times over the years sent back products that I didn't think were worth the money or the usability was suspect. I f I show and/or recommend something, it's because I've tested it and found it to be both fun and helpful! In many cases, I seek out gear because I want it for my own photography and it becomes a standard piece of my photo kit.
