I’ve owned two different soft tops and I’ve come to think the analogy of a pop top camper is 100%. Pop top canvas campers are great but if you use them a lot you’d rather have hard sides. This couldn’t be more true for toppers as well. Insulation, security, less moving parts, longer lasting, more secure etc. all are reasons for hard. Any 1500 truck the fiberglass hard shell canopy can be taken off in 10 minutes w/ one mildly strengthened person. I do it weekly, drill w/ socket to loosen 4 clamps, and I stand inside the truck walk it out halfway, get out, tail gate up, and rest is ez. For $200 you could make a quick pully lift in your carport/garage like my neighbor. I’m just saying if this was $400, maybe, but at $800 yikes.

Yea im not trying to bash on the company that sent that to you, but it does not look good and also anything you do have in the back someone could easily walk up to your truck open the flap and take out everything you have in the bed. This is an item that I think is completely useless and needs to be redesigned or taken off the market.

@@alex_707 jeez, you guys are so sensitive with the appearance of vehicles! It's a truck at the end of the day, yeah it cost a lot of money, but that doesn't mean everything that goes on it has to be equally expensive, like shiny wheels and all that other stuff, and it stays inside because it'll get messed up, or never goes off road because they'll get scratched. All the new modded jeeps around me these days are just like that, more flashy lights and painted polished up pieces than a kids civic back in 2002. Sometimes function has to win over fashion, and this is a perfectly fine option. You can't exactly pick up a snowblower / freezer / roadside find when you need to go home and find someone willing to help you pull your hard top off first.

No flapping with mine after 2 years of use. I keep mine up about 11 months out of the year in Texas. I did have to replace the rear window due to it fading. I did buy my topper used so it wasn’t in new condition when I first installed it.

@@SeanChandlerSF I've had mine for 6 years. Gone 85mph with the sides and back rolled up and with it down. Never had a problem except the rear window does get harder to see through over the year.

@@nateg.6187 I have to third this. I’ve had two over the last ten years. Had one problem with one of them for a long bed and one for a short bed. The one for the long bed had the rear window get stained being on full time for a long time. I called them and they replaced it for free. Only thing is that they are owned by bestop now and I wouldn’t expect that same customer service.

At first glance I thought it was a hard cover, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a pickup box in my opinion. I’d rather have a more traditional cover though, I went for the Truxedo Sentry. I don’t dislike the hard folding ones, but I haul bikes/sleds/atvs too much, and I don’t like how they block the back window.

To each his own, but that thing is FUGLY. But, at least it's also impractical. What is the point of that thing? It's almost useless at keeping dust, water and dirt out and it offers no security for your stuff.

Huh? Your comment seems very ignorant! May not be the prettiest thing but it is a very useful and versatile topper imo. May not be the prettiest thing but it Actually offers good water and dust/dirt protection and is super versatile letting you easily still use your open bed when needed. Most places where dust gets in a truck bed with a topper or tonneau of any sort is around the tailgate. No matter what kind of topper or tonneau cover you have. If you dont seal up the tail gate area your going to get dust. And lastly sure it might not be as secure as a hard topper but it is a deterrent from easily stealing stuff out of your truck bed, just like most other truck bed toppers and covers. Breaking a plexiglass window in a hard topper isnt all that difficult for would be theives and as anyone thats had stuff stolen out of their vehicle will tell ya, security is relative.

@@pablomax3045 Sure a $5000 Leer or ARE topper with proper tailgate sealing will keep out the elements better but the Soft Topper offers far more versatility of use and still provides Good protection from the elements. Just go watch real owner reviews. And if ya like the option of having convenient open bed use versatility the Soft Topper beats all other hard tops that I know of. The only valid point that any of these negative comments make is that in their opinion the Soft Topper looks like crap on the Raptor. That however is personal opinion because if/when I see a Raptor with a Soft Topper on it I think to myself well there's a wealthy person that probably actually uses their truck for lots of truck stuff and that's why they put that versatile topper on it.

I’m not sure what your experience is with these, but my bed is dry after running it through the car wash. I don’t think anyone buys these for security or to keep dust out. Hell, my fiberglass topper still let dust in and it really only kept honest people out. If someone wanted it, it wouldn’t be hard.

The only drilling Is for the snaps on the front window to the bed. You can avoid drilling by using Velcro. I went the Velcro route and it works fine.

A lot of thefts are opportunistic. Yes it isn't going to do anything on a city street, or shitty neighborhood where it will just be slashed because people will be actively peeking through looking for stuff to take, but if people don't see something (like in a parking lot) they don't get the sudden idea to take it. The latches on hard toppers are a joke, and how many people actually lock them? even that keeps people away.

@@duncdunc76 yup, if they want in they get in one way or another, or do LOTS of ugly damage trying. A friend living right outside a city had to stop driving his work truck home because people kept breaking the locks on the utility body with screwdrivers (successful and unsuccessful) and he couldn't get work done multiple times due to busted locks that were only securing boxes of screws, nails, or welding wire. Another friend had his door edge crowbar'd and lock screwdrivered at on an empty car... Super ugly expensive damage for nothing. Personally I don't lock my stuff, I've had my change stolen, but it's better than dealing with window or door damage. Locking a truck bed cover of any type? It's just security theater for the owner. If you're unlucky enough to get hit, they'll crowbar it just to find nothing, (but hoping to find a generator or expensive tools.)

There is a newer solution called Fas-top that is a tonneau/sof-topper combined. And you can remove the topper completely if you so desire. And, the tonneau is roll up not tri-fold so you lose zero bed space. It’s kinda ugly with the tonneau rolled and topper up but that is only used when needed. Otherwise you just see a tight roll up tonneau.

Wow some of these comments lol. It always amazes me when someone else you're so adamant about how they think something looks. Congratulations you have been blessed with the gift of sight and an opinion. As far as a couple of comments talkin about durability, it looks to me like it's made of the exact same material a lot of soft tops for Jeeps and Suzuki's we're made of for along time. I personally think it's a little expensive, but if you like it and you like the way it looks and you can afford it........ I would probably buy a hardtop that clamps on, and then build a winch system to just lift it off, same as with a Jeep. But it looks like a well-made product and you're repping a Colorado company so, good deal.

I have a Softtopper for my '19 F150, love it when we camp. It's off for the round town and off roading in desert. Takes up little room to store in a garage, adds little payload weight, just dig the function of it.

Let us know how it sounds on the highway? Let a heavy load of snow sit on it for a couple days? Leave it full of your camera gear - drones etc and leave it in some parking lots, maybe overnight? Buttons, fabric and zippers do not = secure. Most of us started off with these then moved to a hard shell. If you are even considering something like this and keep trucks longer than a year save your money and get a hard shell.

I have run a Softopper on my 3/4T Crew Cab for over 10 years. When the next truck comes, it will also get a Softopper. For us, the “security” issue took some time to digest, but then we realized how real life and bad guys work and we have adapted to it and moved ahead. The ability to cover our gear against the options of a heavy regular cap or leaving it open, have worked out very well for us. I get the opinions of some of the comments about the aesthetics, but for us this is a truck and we are not concerned.

I looked at these soft tops for my 2019 F250. I had a soft Tonneau on it but needed more of my vertical bed space for trips, tools, misc. I looked at the soft top bc of the convertible aspect but when I price compared a brand new name brand hard top vs soft top, the soft top was about 50% less in $. I went with hardtop. So glad I did. Looks great, can camp with kids in it no fear of weather, ultra secure. Among all other aspects of soft top, being about 50% less than hardtop in price is tough to pick it. Also it doesn’t fit with the Raptor. I appreciate you doing this video so people can have a comparison point.

If you want security- get a diamond back hd and then you can load up to 2 atv’s on top while you still have the contents of the bed secured and water tight - I put one on my 2018 f150 platinum as soon as I got it 3 years ago. It has been flawless! (1 time we had heavy icing and it was a bit of a pain to get the ice off the lock ) It costs more but it is made out of diamond plate aluminum and mine has the black line-x on it. It is easy to remove if you need to - I never have needed to. It looks much nicer. You can also tailgate on it!

I have a Softtopper on my F-250 Tremor and I love the functionality. Have had it almost a year and it is like new. I open the back every day and have folded it up several times. I use my truck every day for work. I have a Red Tremor with the black out sport package and I think it looks great on the truck.

I had a Softtopper on my truck for 10 years. Easy to remove... easy to store... worked great for me. Just wish they would powder coat the square tube that remains when the top is removed.

I have one of these on my Tundra. I was worried about longevity at first but I leave this thing up 90% of the time. I bought it because I ride dirt bikes and four wheelers and it is nice to be able to load those up and go on a trip. When I get there it only takes 5min to put the top up and an mattress and sleeping bag in the back. We drove cross country with it up and it did fine even in Oklahoma cross winds. There is no security to it but that is obvious. It has worked great for me in 5years with no tears and minimal fading/leaks. I get not everyone likes the looks but I don’t buy stuff for what other people think.

I thought about one of those years ago, but in reality, the only thing they help with is rain/snow. In my use case, the minor bump in security and dust protection (I live in AZ) that a hard shell gave was a better solution. Now with a Four Wheel Camper Hawk in the bed (shell model) I've got more secure, dry, dust free storage than the shell. And I can live in it. They've all got their pros/cons.

I bought one of the first versions (BestTop) for this type of topper for my 2005 F-250 and I loved the flexibility and how easy it was to remove by myself and store. This SoftTopper is more flexible and the side panels roll up. My dogs loved being in the back with a bikini top look when I unzipped and removed the side and rear panels too. Enjoy!

Most of the people complaining are arguing subjective points. "It looks ugly". But, to be honest, I don't think it will keep the dust, water, bugs, or have any kind of " safety" for your gear. Unless you are getting the topper for nothing other than sleeping. I would rather have a hard shell. And tow a trailer for bikes or something (if I had any". But you don't get a raptor to haul shit. You get a raptor to jump shit.

It may not be the best-looking product out there. But, for camping or any long-distance trips, I'm impressed with it's utility & ease of use. On a regular day, it can be removed & stored in the garage until it'sneeded again. Another plus, it's made in the USA.

It sounds like a good idea - the middle road for all the other options like a hard top, an RTT, open bed, or tonneau. Then you install it and realize it doesn't actually help in the rain; your gear still gets wet. Then you fold it down to haul and it gets ruined by the firewood/rocks you're hauling. You're better off with nearly every other option. On, also, they get cold and are nearly impossible to button back up. I sold mine after a year of annoyance.

Wow didnt realize how many Raptor fans and owners think the Raptor is a sports car Lol. And if ya like the option of having convenient open bed use versatility, the Soft Topper beats all other hard tops that I know of. The only valid point that any of these negative comments make is that in their opinion the Soft Topper looks like crap on the Raptor. That however is personal opinion because if/when I see a Raptor with a Soft Topper on it I think to myself well there's a wealthy person that probably actually uses their truck for lots of truck stuff and that's why they put that versatile topper on it.

If this is an option for your lifestyle and budget, its not a bad value. I do think its more appropriate for a mid-grade F-150 or Silverado than a Raptor.

I like it. I’ve been considering long camping trips with my dirt bike. I could keep the soft top down while driving out, and then once my bike is out, I could put the top up and use the truck as the ‘tent’...

Been a fan of TFL for years and honestly can't remember the last time I ever left a comment on a youtube, maybe never but this changes things. That is the cheapest thing I've ever seen done to a truck ever. Like vinyl windows and velcro?? Are you kidding? why put something that looks so cheap ($700 lolololol) on such an expensive truck?

Everyone in the comments talking trash about this product has the worst taste and opinions. It's less expensive than any hard top, lighter than any hard top, protects just as good as any hard top, doesn't require any holes in the vehicle, and can be removed quickly by one person if you need to use your truck to do truck things. It looks cool, weighs about 30 lbs and can be configured a bunch of different ways to air out the back if you have dogs riding back there like I do. Try it and you'll love it.

So the magic of video is this video is the before the after videos of the soft top already installed and used and after videos of it being pulled back for the motorcycle that was transported in other videos already. I was worried about putting a negative comment about the looks of it but then I saw what others had to say. That is one quick way to make a nice truck look like garbage. It WAS a nice truck, now its just tacky looking.
