Hey it's Jesse with Lawn Life and I thought I'd give you a glimpse into my life a little bit instead of the regular how-to's. Let me know what you think in the comments! My main channel: / lawnlife
Grass looks good to me for the time of year it is!!! I’m on the same boat, my KGB is slow going! Im thinking of doing a over seed within the next few days!!! I know spring isn’t the best time but I live in Quebec Canada and we really don’t start seeing extreme heat till mid July (35 degrees Celsius) at most!!! I bought some seed from Twin city ( Eclipse and Obsidian) I was planning on mixing them. I was going to pre germinate the KGB 3-4 days prior to pre germinating the perennial rye… what ya think?
Sounds like a good plan to me! You can't go wrong with those blends from TCS. The rye should be able to establish before the summer heat. KBG would be a different story if you were trying to overseed in the spring. Good luck man!
At 1:53, what is that yellowish thinning area kind of by the tree? I have areas like that all over my yard (without the big tree that I'm guessing is causing yours). Is it just worse soil? Disease? Can some areas take forever to come back from dormancy while the other parts are flourishing?
Its hard to diagnose unless I'm looking at your exact situation. Mine was from mulching too heavy in the fall. Disease would probably be the most common issue but it's hard to say
Your lawn is looking pretty good after the first mow, but a perfectionist is never fully satisfied 😉. I renovated my front/back lawn with Slider LS, Fireball, Hattrick, and TEE-ME-UP Perennial Ryegrasses five weeks ago. These are some of the nicest-looking perennial ryegrasses imo. I have been spoon-feeding every two weeks with a variety of liquid fertilizers, and soil amendments from OMEX.
I regret not using 18-1-8 last summer. Now it’s on a pre order because no one else has it. But you never lied Jesse when you told us to use 18-1-8 now I’m trying to hunt it down again. If I find it I’ll buy multiple bags. I swear by it now
@@lawnlifevlogs I did end up trying it. My lawn loves it. I went with the TwinCity Tuff Turf seed and I could tell a difference when I used it for one season and when I didn’t. I’ll be switching over this fall with a complete renovation of the Lawn Life fescue. As far as the price goes it is pricey ngl, but to me for what I can find it’s worth it. If you can find an alternative please lmk. I THINK the low phosphorus made the difference.
hi! Two questions: 1) what state/ zone are you located? 2) what would you suggest to do 'against' dog pee? We do pick up the poop of the dogs right after they did their business but I think the pee is the problem. Sometimes it just fertilizes like crazy but sometimes it just kills the grass.
Man I need help from a fellow Chicagoan. Just got in to the hobby and bought a new house as well. Used to just mow the lawn and use TruGreen but really want to do it myself this year. So much to learn. Love your videos and trust me ill be using your channel as gospel this year to learn
To be honest I've been slacking bad. That's probably why it looks hideous so far. I've only put down 0.4 lbs so far. I'm going to start spoon feeding it ams. About 0.2 lbs of N per week until it looks healthy again
@@lawnlifevlogs Nice! I am asking because I have a new kbg lawn I seeded last fall. I did about 3 applications of 0.25N per week but it’s still a little greener on the pee spots from my dog. I am wondering if I should continue with that, increase the N or do 0.50N per 2 weeks.
Very competitive neighborhood. I can see you need to stay after it those neighbors' yards look sharp and dark as well! Reel mower has em but they're nipping at your heels
You're selling me on that hat trick and Fireball overseed for this fall I do have a question this is my first year doing liquid fertilizer and this last week I tried using a blue dye to help see and that's a straight mess but do you have any tips and tricks for putting down the spray without overlapping as it's so hard to see where i put down when making laps. In 2 weeks, I'm think I'll just go with my lawn stripes that I make and try that? but I wanted your opinion preciate it
Hey. Thanks for watching. I usually like to do it in the morning when there's morning dew on the ground. I can see where I'm spraying and walking much easier. The stripes are another great way to get good coverage. I agree with you, the dye is a total mess!
The A/C unit on the side of the house does not circulate any air into the house. The fan is only for cooling down the condenser and all that air is pushed right back out (Like a car radiator) The actual air blowing into the house is from the blower on the evaporator. No need to worry about fumes but I would worry about spilling random chemicals down into it.
Thanks for this man. Many others pointed this out as well. I don't know why I was thinking it gets sucked into the house lol. Brain fart. Obviously it blows out hot air when it's on
I feel your pain. I'm in Central Wisconsin and the lawn just seems to be taking it's time so far. Mowed last weekend and probably didn't really need it but I was getting impatient lol
I put it in the side yard because it was struggling with the shade. It's going much better now but personally I don't like the way it looks compared to KBG. But the early spring makes you start to think crazy things. You can't beat the color and stripes but it just looks inferior when side by side to kbg
Good looking start to the year! I’m in northern KY and have been thinking about pulling the trigger on your blackout turf type tall fescue. Believe it’s the safest bet in the transition zone and hopefully will get nearly as green as the Hattrick/fireball combo 🤷♂️ we shall see.
Definitely gonna have to go with the TTTF there. I'm gonna be honest it's not quite as dark as the prg, but it's definitely super dark for TTTF. If you decide to go with it, get some before and after photos for me!
@@lawnlifevlogs I sure will!, It may not have huge wow factor but that’s your fault… Just because I followed your fall nitrogen blitz last season and Daaaym is it green 😁 TY for all your insight!!
@@lawnlifevlogs I plan on doing a full lawn renovation here at the end of summer. If you were to do it over, would you do a kbg/rye or all rye? I’m in central Illinois
@@lawnlifevlogs unfortunately, I do not. I have just over 10,000 sqft. so I’m actually geting 4 rain bird 32SA heads with their click n go system to try out this week. If I like it, I’m gonna do the whole property. I wanted professional irrigation but they ballparked me at $10,000 so that’s a no go.
