My first trip to the Nürburgring with the Tracktor! It was pretty impressive to say the least! Get in touch with me on social: / mgcharoudin / m.g.charoudin
@Misha Charoudin I've owned a lot of MK4 Golfs in the past, noticed a couple of things, at the start of the video you had the climate control set to "Auto", that will engage the air conditioning pump and slightly lower fuel economy, if you have it set to "ECON" it will heat/cool but without the A/C and use less fuel. Also you didn't seem to pay attention to the centre trip computer display, you can usually control it from a button on the end of the right stalk to select from distance driven, time driven, instant fuel ecomomy and average fuel economy. The average economy with the Ø symbol on it would have been interesting to see (at least as a guide) even though it may not be totally accurate. The MFD trip computer has a "1" and a "2" view, the "1" view resets if you turn the car off for 2 hours or more, but the "2" view doesn't reset, so you can keep it on that view if doing a multi day trip to view economy over the entire trip without it being reset over night or for long stops etc. 1/2 are selected from a quick press of the button on the bottom of the right stalk, a long press resets the trip computer to 0. Interested to see what your plans are for the tractor :)
Misha, I love disel cars. They are great for fuel consumption, I have 2.0 TDi Octavia and it averages 6.5 l/100km. If you drive like a granny you can get 3.8 liters/100km and even on 190km on cruize control it still eats like 9.5 liters. Which is amazing!!!
Always exciting on a first long trip with a new car! Expensive tolls though :( Only you could drive straight to Brünnchen before going home, lol Super project to update the Golf and look forward to your vlogs :)
Agreed, my dad has a 2009 1.6 focus diesel, that gets between 50 and 60 mpg on the motorway, and a brand new Toyota prius gets close to 30 mpg on a good day with Conservative driving
Hot tip from Slovenia - keep the vignette receipt(s) and you can get a new one in case of a windshield replacement... They don't make it easy, but it's possible. ;)
Audi A4 B6 1.9TDI 96kw 5gears , Gračanica (Bosnia) - Cologne /Köln (Germany) with one tank. 3 grown ups, 2 kids and stuff were in the car .. VWs PD engines are just awesome.
I have a 2011. Golf MK6 1.6 TDI with Sedox Performance remap (around 140-145 HP), I can still get around 1100 km per tank (55L) on an open road (usually when I go to the coast during summer), while with a "regular" driving routine I get anywhere from 800-950 km, depending on the season and % share of city driving.
Hello Misha, a very interesting VLOG, I bought a 2003 Golf 1.4 petrol Match with 116K miles in December, it cost £600 with new timing belts, spent an extra £100 on new MOT, plugs, filters, and a valet. It is great to drive, average around 40mpg, still feels very well put together for a 17 year old (well looked after) car. Using it to keep the mileage down on my other car. Regards, RichardA.
Nice consumption for on the Autobahn Funny to see how advanced it is today. For example with a Mercedes-Benz C180 petrol (manual 6-speed, no sunroof or towing hook) made for low CO2 emissions (a very, very long 6th gear: not even 1500rpm 80 km/h) will do about the same consumption on the Autobahn, driving around 140-150km/h
Way, way back in the days I had a Golf III TDI with 110 hp and I could reach often a bit more than 1100 Kilometers per Tank if needed. I tried it out at some Wörthersee VW Meetings a "few" years ago.
Misha mate put some clear tape on the sticky "front" of the sticker then you can take it off any time. I leave a tiny part of the adhesive exposed so it will stick.
Between 2006 and 2011 I had a Golf Mk 4 GT Sport, 131 hp, 6-speed gearbox, full leather interior. nearly full stock except H&R Clubsport coilovers and H&R anti rollbars. It was so reliable, fast (242 k‘s/h GPS), fun to drive and unbelievalby economical. I had a 27 k‘s trip to work back then and it was no big deal to do this on a diesel consumtpion of sub 5 ltr. in both directions. In the overall mix with all kinds of roads, speeds and traffic it reached an average of 5,4 ltr./100 k‘s measured over the distance of 10.000 k‘s. It was an awesome car wich I really loved and still miss until today. I bought it first hand with sub 75.000 k‘s and my goal was to reach half a million k‘s, unfotulately at around 385.000 k‘s a motorvyclist who fell right in front of me, travelling way too fast towards me, hit me hard in the front and damaged nearly everything underneath the car and this was it. It was totaled, a complete write-off.
Yeah ,the tdi project.I geht 1200km on on full tank. You know car trottle wich took the skoda from england to nurburging and back in one tank. Or Felixba which took a 1.9tdi passat and drive it with 3.9 liter. I love this engine so much
I love fuel consumption videoes :D - Though I must admit, that I'm not very impressed with the 15.8km/l or 6.3l/100km. Last August I drove from Krefeld, Germany to Horsens, Denmark (696km) with an average of 16km/l or 6.25l/100km. - That was in my 2013 Peugeot 208 1.6 THP GTi 200... Though I was driving the exact speedlimit (+3km/h) all the way, with as few breaks as possible. I am looking forward to following the evolution of the Tracktor :D
Hey Misha just wanted to say that if your windscreen needs to be replaced you can get a new vignette for free if you keep the receipt and the plastic it was attached to :)
In Slovenija, if you change your windscreen and still have a bill for a vignette and window change you get a new one for free. And yes the 1.9 TDI was the best diesel engine from VW. I'm sure it could do over a million km with proper maintenance of course. For comparison I once had a 132kW 2.5 TDI well looked after and it died at 230.000 km.
Vws are great cars. 1.9 tdi is a beast. So was the 2 liter 16v, 1.8 in the 83 gti, and my 2018 golf 1.8 sportwagon 6 speed awd is not too bad. All have done 6 liters to the 100 on long highway drives. Montreal to assateague island. Fully loaded for family camping in a 91 passat 16v 5 speed. Wooohooo. 16 hrs.
Can't believe you are actually spending money on this thing... but on the other hand, I like how down to earth you are, even though you have spent so much time in super fast and expensive cars.
I know its maybe late, but keep the receipt of the vignette. When You crack the screen. cut the glass with the vignette and receipt go to the shop /SLO & A the same conditions , and You get a new one
I just bought myself 6 speed passat estate tdi (140) because of the mgp, with its estimated range of 723 mile 1163km. Now I can do the 500 mile round trip to see family for less than half the cost of my petrol car.
my 2007 V70 D5 can drive over 700km on half a tank in the right conditions. I did a 720km drive on just about half a tank with a passenger, a full set of summer wheels including tyres in the back and luggage for a 4-day weekend, it was mostly highway and my average consumption for the trip was 4.5l/100km (speeds around 70 to 130kmh). I’m extremely impressed for it being such a big & heavy car and engine. Average consumption now is 6.9l/100km and i use it as a daily with 99% urban driving. The car cost me just over €900, every feature works and i couldn’t be happier with it for the money, cheap diesels ftw.
looks like its mint condition. came across your ride by darkside video on your gbox etc. that instrument cluster looks like the one on a passat. engine I take it is PD, enjoy your ride
My dad owned two Golf 4 Variant's with the 1.9TDI 101hp and they were bulletproof. I have a Passat B7 2.0TDI 177hp with DSG and I managed to average 5.8l/100km from Landshut, Germany to Bucharest, Romania so 1200 km on a tank(70L) without being economical at all.
A 6 speed gearbox will do a LOT to lower your fuel consumption. On my old A4 with the 1.9 TDI for the whole lifetime of the car I spent 5.9l/100km and that's including many roadtrips (Romania, Italian alps, south of France and of course the Nürburgring).
Lifetime of the car? You somehow outlived that engine? :^0 haha jk i know they have like same crap with camshaft but seriously solid cars. Petrol 1.8t and 2m0t however were complete trash. How long did your diesel actually go for?
Not necessarily, 5th gear on this gearbox should be the same as 6th gear on a 6-speed gearbox. So if you're cruising on the autobahn it shouldn't make a difference. But the ratios are closer, which means more time spent in the power band, better acceleration and lap times. (Edit: this is wrong, only applies to longitudinal Audi and Passat gearboxes.)
@@stefanfreestylez haha, nah. Sold it 2 years ago after 5 years and over 150k kms together (total was over 320k kms when I sold it). Still miss it sometimes.
@ Michele Zanella ... I was about to mention that but you’ve beet me to it 😉👍🏼 but ... that’s 100% correct . I’ve owned both 5 & 6 speed VAG PD TDi cars and both top gears are the same ratio. The 6 speed is meant to be a bit sportier as you’re changing gears more due to the extra ratio in the middle therefore closer ratios overall.
Hey Misha, If you keep the receipt of the "Vignette" and the scratched off "Vignette" as well, you get a replacement for free when changing your windscreen. Or you could get a "digitale Vignette". That solves the problem in either cases. Cheers from Austria
if there are cracks on the windshield, I know the repairman in Zagreb who can change the windshield and remove the vignettes from the cracked windshield and put on new windshield. so no worries good luck with the Traktor
I averaged 6.7l/100km from Ljubljana to Prague and around 7.6 on my two trips to the Ring with some top speed runs on autobahn in my Cupra 300, so I was kinda expecting a bit lower consumption :)
Last week drove 2000km in my 2014 A6 C7 Allroad BiTDi at around 150/160Kph and managed to average 7.7L/100Km. I thought you would manage around 2L/100Km less. Maybe with Mods in engine + gearbox you'll be able to lower consumption. Take care Misha and maybe see you again in Karfreitag...😉
Hi Misha, if you do happen to break your windsreen, you have the right to ask for a new vignette here in Slovenia. I just got mine today. Don't know about Austria though.
A6 Allroad 3.0 tdi 2015,remap to 328hp/691nm, sitting on 235/55 winter tyres, driver and two passengers with fully loaded trunk. Bad weather and driving conditions, 100-130km/h, used 65.6 liters diesel on 1040km - which is just 6.3l/100km. Not bad for 320+hp car with quattro that weights 2035kg without a driver. 😁
We shouldn`t forget that this is on winter tires :) Also look at that night drive conditions... Also its a route through the mountains... So on good conditions with good tires and lowland... 5.5ltr/100km should be possible...
My trip to the Nürburgring and back was not an issue with one tank. 6,8l/100km with a petrol engine of roughly the same age as your Golf. Modern cars are just too heavy, easily 200-300kg more than 3 generations of Golf ago.
If you replace your windscreen, you can get a new Vinjeta, you just have to save the other piece of the sticker as a proof and DARS will give you a new one in Slovenia.
Lange afstand is altijd goed voor een lager brandstofverbruik, uit de reacties haal ik dat de thermostaat nog niet vervangen is, dus je motor blijft te koud, het kan nog zuiniger.
If you have to replace the windscreen, the places that do it offer some black magic free of charge to transfer the vignettes onto the new glass. Had it done on my Audi 2 years ago when a Polish truck sent a rock at me on the highway. >_
Hi Mischa. I bought a 10 year old Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel same time as you bought the Golf. I took a trip from my home to Germany, toghter with my mom. To do some shopping. I drove 130 kmh the most of the way. And drove 17 km pr liter. On the way home the car was loaded with groceries. My Focus is only 5 speed to, at 130 kmh, the engine run abaut 2500 rmp. I would like it only did 2000-2100 rmp. But what can i do, else than drive slower. I dont like to drive slow.
E90 320d, 184hp, manual, avarega 5.2-5.5l/100km, over 1000km on full tank without any problems, even crusing at 160km/h it drinks less than 6.0l/100km. I was expecting Golf to be more economical. Sure, the BMW is way newer (2012) and more expensive but still a pretty cheap and nice car for someone who drives a lot and still wants reasonable handling and RWD.
@Misha Charoudin I did 1250km on one tank with 1.6tdi tractor and still had 5km of range left so it was probably 20-30km more. And needless to say that it wasn't really done according to the croatian law :o
Very cool Misha! Have the emission deletes been done on the Tractor already...by the previous owner? ;) What tires are you driving with in that blizzard?
With 6 gears and about 90-ish kmph average speed you definitely can do 1k km. I've once managed a 3.8 l/100km on a 250km run (with slight downhill) in my old mk4. So I think 5% is easily achievable with 6 speeds. And multiply that with the 55l capacity... boom you're there 😁
after modifying the control unit in a Skoda Octavia 2 1.9TDI 110KW, original 77kw, I can do 1320km on one fill-up when I fill up to the tank cap. But I managed to do it only once, the on-board computer showed me 0 km range for about 10 km :D. It is not a problem to have an average consumption of 4.4 l - 4.6 on the highway up to 110 km/h, by the way, the car has driven 557 xxx km to date.
Misha thanks for another great video but I wish you could explain to me why so many people like 6 speed manual transmissions. There's not a manual trans that's better than a wide ratio 5 speed, especially when it comes to fuel mileage. (at least from my experience)
Apologies if somebody else has done it but for us brits i worked out it's averaging 42.68 mpg. Not bad but not amazing either so as others have said, the thermostat could be goosed. My mapped E92 330d does 40mpg urban and would probably do high 40's on that trip. More is better with MPG by the way 😁
In Slovenija we have the vinjeta for years. Is 15€ for 7 days, 30€ for a month and 110€ for the year. If they get you witout one is 300€ fine or 150€ if you pay it right there and you need to buy a vinjeta buy the DARS (a country road association) and they are having just years vinjetas XD
The older mk4 wouldve done even better (pre 2004). Atleast in north america there were changes made then. Golf diesel is and always has been the perfect daily.
is it 8v or 16v? the consumption is very similar to my Alfa 147 (yes, i finally bought it), it is a blast to drive, and has a more advanced suspension setup, so it is more suitable for track use :D
With skoda octavia 2, 2.0 tdi 140 hp and DSG, 2 ppl with luggage i had 4.1% and 62km/h average that happened many times and on highway around 5.8% with 130-145km/h
you can get 900km on one tank until the fuel light comes out. Maybe if you drive eco friendly you can get 1100kms in one tank with the 5 speed! By the way.. the footage when you where behind the plow truck was of the GoPro? Cheers Misha!
