Its a whole new cab to NS specs.

All the cabs on the C6M rebuilds are brand new

An ATSF style Gull wing cab would have been pretty cool.

I saw that, one of those being 9564 which I saw on 278 last year.

Eventually the 3900 series units will be done too.

They seem to like them. Basic and reliable.

C6Ms are the main locomotives I see on the Cincinnati Yard Cam. There's a few Dash 9s and various SD70xxx but those C6Ms are leading the pack now.

I was told they are owned by Wabtec until NS formally accepts them. That maybe why.

@@stephankoenig5481 seems like your last comment is correct, just looked at the roster sheet and the ex BNSF unit on this test train isn’t listed as an NS unit. The ones I was referring to are the ones NS has carrying 3900 series numbers.

Nothing BNSF can really do about it when California’s dumpster fire rules say they aren’t allowed to run any units older than 20 years old for a certain amount of engine hours now, thanks to Newscom… that’s why a lot of BNSF’s Dash 9’s get sent to out of state work permanently until further notice. So BNSF has no choice but to buy new “shtty” tier 4 emissions GE’s and EMD’s.

No it will be fully painted NS when it departs.

Also I think they do it too for command and control in the event of an errant or runaway locomotive. If something is new, untested or experimental. Some devices fail into a full power mode.

They use their dynamic brakes to simulate a loaded train for the 2 pulling.

I remember the H1s rolling out for the first time 28 years ago. Time flies!

Your best time is 10 to noon. It's not consistent. Some days they do not test. 1 to 2:30 is another.
