Wondering when to use first and second conditional in English? Learn with me and hang around for the Conditionals Quiz at the end!
The 1st Conditional:
We use it to talk about things that are POSSIBLE in the future and have a LIKELY chance of happening!
IF + present simple, WILL + bare infinitive verb
EG: If I miss the bus, I will take a taxi.
The 2nd Conditional:
Use it to talk about IMPOSSIBLE present situations and UNLIKELY future situations
IF + past simple, WOULD + bare infinitive verb
EG: If I missed the bus, I would take a taxi.
Stick about for the QUIZ at the end of the lesson to practice what you learn!

Hi Emma, another great lesson, as always!! 1.- If I get the promotion, I will buy a new car. 2.- Unless I cook something without spicy, my child will have nothing to eat for dinner. 3.- supossing that I lose your dog, would you get mad of me? 4.- if I run out of coffee, I'd die (hypothetically)😂 I like the method you use to teach. Thanks again for your great dedication that you put in every lesson Emma, never stop.

Hello Emma, the two advantages that you have in your teaching are, first, the energy of your voice , second, the gestures and demonstrations needed for an effective teaching. One thing, do not only stick to the grammatical points, there so many other interesting discussions in linguistics that you can on and off, apply to them and use them in your teaching. Thanks

Hi, Emma, long term follower of your videos, which are awesome, is it possible that you can talk about how to use nouns properly, in particular on when to apply plural form of the nouns. Such as when you refer to a noun, from what i have noticed, native speakers tend to use its plural form instead of singular. Many thanks.

I was missing my favourite, prettiest teacher!! If it doesn't rain soon, the lake will dry up!!. If I watch Emma's videos, I am going to be a better teacher. I have a question: In the first conditional, can we combine present + present? I am in America and I was taught at the University it's possible!!!

Thanks for practicing with me Jose! Great examples. present + present is the Zero Conditional. Use it to talk about facts. For example, "If it rains a lot, the river rises."

@Adel. Eugele was right. In conditional sentence, there are no “was” every verb “was” turn into “were” in the past form.

Hi Emma. I have loved this typical British lady first name since I came across Jane Austen & her novel in my University-years. I have just tumbled across your marvelous English teaching videos through sheer chance or luck. I have not met many young ladies in the teaching field like you with such a magnetic charismatic voice & personality. I beg your pardon because I do come to this appraisal through only the visioning & perusal of your videos. You have this God-Given vocational gift in teaching; it simply just comes to you naturally. Yes, please continue in this demanding vocation & share your teaching world-wide on the internet as long as you feel the motivation & joy of teaching this wonderful universal language, English. Sincere greetings & Regards.
