I like to use my truck as a wind deflector and have the engine slightly parked on the downwind side to keep frost and snow off the engine bay. And of course I plan it accordingly to the wind direction forecast.
Your self manufactured bed design is the cats ass. Much more comfortable than a cot, less weight and space management with the seat is the cherry on top. Thks for the video
@@ReelLifeWithMike I'm thinking about grabbing the eskape 2800over the spring and getting it all set up for next year. I camp in my outbreak 650xd it's nice but not as quick to move around if you need to switch location.
Use that 135 in your boat as the starting battery. I’ve got it in mine. Lots of power to run the livescope and everything else in your boat even when your not running your motor most of the day 👍
2 things….. 1st off get yourself a long spoon for those meals…. It’s worth it, 2nd thing is get a small little air pump for your air matt. Your humid breath can freeze inside the matt and eventually your air mattress will grow mold inside due to always using your own breath to fill.
This is a great video! I'm getting ready to do my first overnight in a flip tent and seeing how others have done it gives me the confidence to send it! The Eskimo bench seat is sick and I'm really digging the diesel heater, esp that cool exhaust pipe thing behind your chair.
Resourceful with that DIY bed! It looked like the bed slats had their curve towards the bottom. You'll get a slightly better sleep if you flip the curve towards the top of the bed platform.
Yeah I’ll actually be swapping it around. I wasn’t sure that If I sat or layer on it if it would lay flat but it doesent ha ha. New things for this year.
I have both the Eskimo 2400 and the Eskimo 650 XD! I would really love to know how you made the split bench seating for the 2400! I love camping on the ice and that has been my biggest downfall is not being able to utilize the bench! Also, if you have a video on how you built the aluminum bed, please let me know! This is absolutely perfect!!!
Thanks for watching. I’m hoping to do an overnight in my one-man flip over again and go a little bit more into detail. I didn’t really do a video of how I built it as when I built I usually just built to suit. But hopefully I’ll be putting something together soon with a little bit more detail.
Hey Mike, go to Marway Militaria and get the more military style MRE. They come with a self heating bag so you literally only need a small about of water as the meal is not dehydrated. The bags come with a savoury, something sweet, electrolyte drink powder and even a candy pack. Comes with everything you need including a pouch spoon. Say “hello” to Jamie and her husband, say that Alex’s dad sent you. We shop there regularly.
Great video, Mike, and nice work on the "Sleep-over" shack. Very cool design. Also, random little spiel, I showed my dad your channel and he recognized your name as a guy from high school. He went to MCI (Morden Collegiate Institute), and I guessed that you're from southern Manitoba. Just cool to see that someone from Morden is out there on RU-vid putting out awesome fishing videos.
Awesome set up bud! The dehydrated desert you had- I bought the same brand but the grilled chicken creole gumbo with rice and absolutely loved it! Had a great kick to it to! Planning an overnight in riverton for feb 25th and 26th if your interested. We will have sleds
@@ReelLifeWithMike will do. We are going out Friday morning and then stay til Saturday late day. Set up at hecla bar for morning and evening bites and then bring an extra tent with heater to move around during the day “if” the bite turns off.
This was a very informative video Mike love the setup looked fun great setup tutorial vid very very good..... ummmm maybe next time bring the good luck charm tho so we see some more of those feesh 😉🤣...
Remember when I incorrectly guessed that you were a police officer? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you work for NASA now. Your engineering is top notch. That bed design, albeit taking a dozen or so attempts to nail it down, is amazing. Pretty much all of the custom work you do makes me feel like less of a man. That's the only downside to your videos: Me feeling like a boy in a man's world. Really cool setup you have and as always, an amazing video. Glad you didn't blow away or have any gear damaged in that storm.
Ha ha. This made my day man. Honestly slot of nigh as to do with patience. So many people get discouraged to try something new and fail but failing is learning. Thanks so much for watching
primary shelter, fallback shelter (in this case car) primary heat for main shelter (diesel) with at least 3 extra days of fuel, Backup heat (usually propane) with at least 24 hours of heat, back up heat needs to be able to be moved to fallback shelter. food and water for trip + at least 3 extra days. Eperb :)
@@ReelLifeWithMike you don't need to be a professional, just remember things break so always have a back up and an "escape route" in most cases thats knowing where the vehicle is and if necessary tying a rope /paracord between your tent and vehicle. (simply being able to pick up he rope and follow it back to the car door is a level of safety and peace of mind in white out conditions. ) having the ability to shift to a propane heater even if its just a little buddy heater can be a life saver if the diesel heater "breaks". They rarely do but... Your battery could fail or something else. the diesel heater can also be used in emergancy for heat in the car... every year people freeze to death in cars because they aren't prepaired. lastly. the fun one. fill a baggy with 3 in 1 coffees, 3 in 1 milk tea, hot cocoa. Lipton instant soups... a mix of stuff. then pack it with a little esbit stove, and expandable cookig cup. even in the worst situations you now have some callories, and the moral boost of a coffee. If you really really really want to get fancy... there's always Pemmican and Pilot bread. (or sos biskets but thats kinda expensive. )
I don’t see why not. Pretty much anything can be done. I was actually looking at the sierra at the ice show and that was the first thing that came to mind
i have the 2400 but with the seats and i dont think ill ever change to a bench its a pain in the ass for overnighters... just for that cot reason i can pull one seat out with just two pins and easily fit a nice cot down the one side and still have tons of room to fish on the other side the other thing i like about them is they turn 360 and you can even push them back if you want even more leg room
Awesome videos!!! can’t wait to you to see what you have coming for the 2023-24 season. I was wondering how cold have you ran your diesel heater in. And did you have any problem with diesel geling.
Mike when you mentioned MRE and I was thinking Military MRE's.... but those aren't the one's that I ate in my 25 years... those look so much better. Can you post a link on your diesel heater. Love that setup!!!
Ha ha yeah I guess they really are today's society's version of the MRE ha ha. It was quite good. The diesel heater I chose was the vevor brand. A chineese diesel heater off amazon 8kw. Thanks so much for watching
Mostly because it was just going to be for me and maybe Kali. I also really liked the bench compared to the split seats. But I think I’m gonna be looking at the 2600 next year
It's not really a sleep over set up, unless you take the support vehicle along evertime . Try setting up a self contained overnight unit. 👍 great video tho. Thanks for sharing
What is the durability of the diesel heater? Will the diesel heater survive the bumps and bangs of being towed by a snowmobile while stowed in a flip over shanty?
I haven’t been able to try that. I usually walk out or in the truck. I have gone over some pretty crazy ridges in the truck and it survived but I think just like anything as long as it’s strapped down correctly and not loose I don’t see a problem as really there’s no loose parts to it.
Those MRE’s are really nutrient deficient with many carbs, calories, and sodium. I’d probably say bring some meat and just cook it up. Better food and less unhealthy factors. I used to eat the MRE’s but found myself feeling off after eating them.
I can't imagine how that heater setup is good. Hot air blowing on the back of your neck all day sounds terrible. How do you keep your feet warm and your holes open without a fan blowing down and also that looks like alot of work hauling it around and setting it up. I'll stick with my big buddy and not cut 2 holes in my sled. You guys catch alot of nice fish and I enjoy your videos.
Ha ha. Well I had the heater low and it did not seem to work as good as having it higher. The vent rotates so it actually points up and not against the person. It warms the tent enough that I wear socks and normal slippers as the floor isnt that cold as the cold air intake pulls the hot air down. I have been carting this stuff around while waling out over a mile so I guess to each there own ha ha.
Great video Mike, I have the Otter Lodge flipover, you mentioned that you tied down your flipover, how do you do that? I was going to put grommets in the front corners and then attach an anchor to the back of the sled.... not sure if that would be good.... thanks again
I will have to look into doing that, it's my first flipover so I'm learning as I go, only been ice fishing/ fishing for 5 years.... I also did that to get my sled in and out of my truck box, I put Krazy carpet on it so it slides very easy, the ramp chewed up my runners the first time I did it lol.... I very much appreciate you taking the time to reply, tight lines be safe and I look forward to further videos.....
If you're talking about @1:40 he says "Send them a pin" he is talking about a gps location so if something happens to you then people would know exactly where to start looking. In both Apple Maps and Google Maps (and I'm sure most map apps) you can easily share your location by opening the app, tapping on the blue circle that shows your location, and then choosing to "Share Location".
Lol. That’s super funny because I’ve had a couple side comments about people saying that as well ha ha maybe there was another creepy person in there with me.
