Got to plow for the first time this year. I have some sad news. You've probably seen my sidekick Piper The Dog in many of my videos. I had to put her down in August due to an enormous tumor in her belly that caused her body to completely shut down. I'm heartbroken as she was my best friend and went almost everywhere with me for 8 years.
In today's video I'm showing my new driveways for this season which I have 9 in total. I'm driving a 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab with a Fisher XV2 8'6 stainless steel plow.

Hello Nick. Well it could have been worse. Good practice for snow to come. Gravel driveways are a chore to plow. Walt

I'm anxiously waiting for our first snow this year so I can get out and plow as this is my winter job since I'm laid off from my fulltime summer job at Northeast Paving in Bangor. Maine

We have about an 80% chance of 3-6" of snow coming on Tuesday here in WI, so it will likely be my first time plowing (w/ v plow) with the landscape company I work for. My brother also works there and he'll be showing me how to plow. Do you have any tips or suggestions for my first time plowing residential? This and one of your other plowing videos have helped me get an idea of how to plow. :)

Awesome to hear you're enjoying my videos. 3-6" is a perfect amount for your first plow. I'm seeing this 8 days later so that storm has come and gone, hope it went well for you. My advice is just take it slow and easy while you're learning. People on the road are assholes and everyone is in a rush so plowing during the day sucks. Nighttime plowing is the best cause nobody is on the road and you can see headlights when someone is coming. Watch out for curbs, they are a nightmare. I've actually been wanting to do a video where I talk about how I plow so I can share some tips. Maybe I'll do that next time it snows. There's a lot to it but it becomes second nature and I don't even really think about a lot of it so it's hard to know what to tell to be helpful. Hope you have a good first season!

Hey Nick, Sorry for your loss very hard loosing a buddy. We just had our first plowable snow and my first year plowing and you make it look easier than it is but its enjoyable learning the prosses. Do you have weight in the back of your truck? I was debating if I should add any.

Thank you for your condolences. Yeah plowing is tricky to learn but after a season or two it becomes second nature. I have been plowing with a truck for 8 years I think and I still learn stuff all the time. I do have weight (AKA ballast) in my truck. I did a video on it last year but I think I actually had too much weight last year. I have a couple big tool boxes that are really heavy that live back there plus tools under my seat, my truck has a cap, and I have a row of sandbags in between the wheel wells. So I'd say there's at least 1,000 lbs of extra weight on the rear axle compared to a completely empty truck. I think the weight helps, but like I said last year I think it was too much weight and the truck rode really rough and there's a tipping point where more weight become counter productive
