Angela Glassow is, in my mind, the person who definitively proved that a female guttural style vocalist can front a metal band. She shattered the mould, she provided the inspiration for many others, she proved it could be done and Arch-Enemy, then and now with her chosen replacement Alissa, are second to no band for raw brutality. Thank you Angela, a lot of music I listen to and love may not have been made if not for your effort, drive and hard work.
@@morilot She is. She moved from stage to backstage and specifically recruited Alissa as her replacement to my knowledge. Which only strengthens her claim as a ground breaking, forward thinking and positive influence on the metal scene.

Thanks for doing Arch Enemy! 🤘😈🤘 Enjoyed it a lot. There are tons of other 10/10 tracks. The best stuff are the more obscure tracks on the albums. This is one of their singles.
I mean, I was at this concert with my dad, we both made it out fine. You don't have to enter the circle pit after all. She's not less intimidating in person I have to say, I feel you on that. It was either my first or 2nd concert ever. Hell, I even bought the Vinyl of this concert and then had to go out and buy a record player, but it was worth it to relive it.
I have to confess that as an out and out Nightwish fan that I have one Arch Enemy album in my car with this "singer;". They are amazing musicians. And perhaps I like tall women !!
Angela is not tall at all. It's just that for some reason she seems to grow about a head in size as soon as she sets foot on a stage. It's just an innate power of the Arch Demoness.
I honestly think Arch Enemy isn't your cup of tea ( I love'em but if you're not into growl...well...) They have one (1) song that has some clean vocals - that one you might actually like, so check the official video for "Reason to believe"
I love this band! They opened (with their current singer Alyssa) for Nightwish in Paris in 2015 (together with Amorphis). My favorite song by them is "Ravenous"!

I remember the first time I discovered Arch Enemy. My cousin uncle my brother and i (who are also huge metal heads like I am) we were at an FYE in 2006 and my cousin told me about this song that I needed to listen to so he grabbed this CD by the Arch Enemy and put it in the scanner machine they use to have that you could listen to a couple of the tracks on the album(which I miss they were cool). So I grabbed the headphones and he puts on theyre cover of Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction. As soon as Angela Gossow's(the female singer in this video) vocals I was shocked like you were in Jinjer Picies Reaction video. I really never heard that level of growling before then when the minute was up my cousin turns and asks me what I thought. I was like it was a pretty decent cover. Then he drops the bombshell... He looks at me serious as a heart attack and says that was a woman. I was standing with my mouth agaped and was in disbelief. Then he put on another sample track the had her talking in the live audience and I listen to it for about 20 seconds took the headphones off and bought the CD and have been a fan ever since. It sucks I missed them touring with Jinjer a few years ago. Awesome video my dude and keep on rocking!!!🤘🤘🤘
They have a new singer now: Alyssa White-Gluz. You should check her out, too. She is not looking as brutal as this one (Angela Gossow), but also has cool growling capabilities. Yep, I found Arch enemy around y2k but like more of newer songs with Alyssa. This one is probly more for Tom. Btw. they toured with Amaranthe and Nightwish at US, and audience was usually the same.
She's Angela Gossow, she's a true legend. The current singer is Alissa White-Gluz. You have to listen to her too, because she is also extraordinary. You must, you must.
Heavy vocals take some time to get into. But when you do, it's hard to look back man. The passion and adrenaline is just hard to match. I can't get the same emotion from cleans anymore. I'm not looking forward to get pushed around in a pit, but if I do go to a concert, I can't stay away. Show some love, do some running and jumping. It's all good. People actually help others up if they fall. It's good mosh etiquette.🤘
Angela Gossow is the pioneer in female growling. Before her, it was considered impossible. She was also always part of the management. Due to the success of Arch Enemy, she could no longer do either and she had to choose one. She then switched to management for good.
Actually Angela Gossow is not the singer for them anymore, It's Alissa White-Gluz but she also packs a punch and is from here in Canada!, Arch Enemy is fucken badass overall though, They rock! Cheers \m/
We had a local 90s rock cover band play the other night and towards the end of their set, we got a huge mosh pit going. I missed that shit so much. They're not nearly as dangerous as you'd think. Try it some time. You'll have a blast.
that's why many fans hated the change. Because being more "digestible" is somehow changed the essence lol. I like them with Alissa though but I loved them way more with Angela.

Angela is still my favorite Arch Enemy singer. The new singer is really good, but I prefer Angela. Sort of like how people prefer Tarja over Floor. To each his own. I didn't think you'd enjoy them though, almost all growling, except one song with the new singer where she switches between cleans and growls.
