You're essentially right in the music video/lyrics being a metaphor: it's a very long story, but Daniel went on a break in late 2019-early 2020 due to depression and anxiety. He had a really hard time in 2019 due to a number of events and a lot of hate he received. I believe he wrote the lyrics to this song when he was on break. Luckily he's doing a lot better now! Glad to see your reaction, as always.

Respect to Daniel because in some of the dance scenes they were filmed after his water scene and while they were filming the water scene I think something happened while they were filming in the water, so he had a hard time breathing the next day while dancing his dance scenes and he said his chest hurt a lot His manger is also the one that played that cyborg looking person in that room scene

i really think that this choreography really encompasses paranoia so well. the stiffened, tense quality they all dance with really shows how with anxiety we feel as if everything is tense, like a struggle to move. even the contemporary style was a great choice to incorporate because it's so useful to show abstract feelings with paranoia

Before Paranoia I didn't know that he was such a good dancer. The contemporary style fits him and this song so well and the delivery is on point, even in the dance practice. Can't wait to see more of him. I never really followed what he was doing but when Daniel is having a comeback you can't help but listen to it over and over.

Daniel himself wrote the lyrics from his experience, he wanted to show the feeling of breaking down as he made this while he was in hiatus to care for his mental health as he was suffering from depression and panic disorder. this song is so so great, but you were right in it being a metaphor! Daniel went on a long break sometime late 2019 because of his mental health; his anxiety and depression had worsened, and he was also getting hate for it. You need to react to "It's Dangerous Beyond the Blankets". It's about 14 episodes in total. They take Korean celebrity homebodies and make them live together for a few days and film it. Daniel is one of the main cast members. His picture was everywhere when I was in Seoul back in 2018 and when I got home I looked up who he was and that show endeared him to me. You'll be surprised at who shows up on the show. The interactions are great.

About the choreo: We Dem Boyz choreographed this and they're the ones who choreographed Victon's What I Said too! Kim Ingyoo, one of We Dem Boys choreographers, is a close friend of Kang Daniel, so his team take part in choreographing all of his songs since his solo debut. As far as I know Daniel was the one that helped them to be known choreographers in the industry and now they've worked with Victon, Cravity and even Super M (Tiger Inside and One), among other groups

Dance has always always been his forte like he's really cool when he dance then rap and then his vocals keeps on just getting better.

I am so glad you reacted to Kangdaniel. I have listened too this song everyday multiple times since it came out. I love in the dance practice that STOMPING of the feet. He makes this look so effortless yet anyone who danced knows this is not an easy dance. It's hard on the body and feet. Hope you react to him more in the future. He deserves it for sure. I’m so happy! :) Just leaving some info here about him if anyone is curious : Kang Daniel was the winner of Produce 101 Season 2 (a survival program to form a boy group of 11 members which the winner would get to become the center of the group). The group was contracted to promote together for 1.5 years (ending in Dec. 2018). Wanna One was highly successful in Korea & Asia. Once their contract ended, the members returned to their original groups or went solo. He was planing on going solo early 2019 but before he had that chance, he found out that his rights were transferred to a 3rd party without his consent (aka a slave contract) & entered into legal dispute with his ex-company to suspend/terminate his contract. Long story short, they finally settled with him after extensive media play, media ban, attacks on his character & etc. While still under media ban mid 2019, he established his own company “Konnect Entertainment” + went solo (although he could not promote on national tv at that time) & after he entered into settlement with his ex-company (Nov. 2019 onwards), the ban was lifted & he was/is now able to promote his music/work freely under his own name/his own company. Since 2019, apart from his debut album (Color On Me), Daniel has put out 2 more eps in his color series (CYAN & MAGENTA). PARANOIA is a digital single which is the start of/will lead into his 3rd & final album to the color series (which I think is coming soon...) Daniel’s concept for the color series (the trilogy) is “finding his colors” in music, so he’s been experimenting with different genres & beats. His lastest ep “MAGENTA” was a summer album with fun summer/party beats & its very different from PARANOIA which has rock/dark vibe. For a little info on the song, PARANOIA is a self-written track by Daniel. He co-wrote the lyrics from his own experience battling with anxiety in the past (he said he is much better now so pls don’t worry). This is an amazing analysis of the dance and concepts - thanks! Just wanted to add since you're checking out PD101 season 2, that after he won the show, he was basically the most popular Korean man, next to the President of Korea. And yet, with all that popularity (extra CF and promotions apart from with WannaOne) he remained soo grounded and appreciative of everything that was happening. He never took it for granted the amount of love he received, but after the disbandment of WannaOne, the company he belonged DID take advantage of him and sold agreements he never agreed to. That's where the lawsuits began and when that company and the industry and some antis turned on him causing him to feel lost, and ultimately paranoia (in a sense) as he was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in late 2019. As you can probably tell from the comments before mine, this song was based off of his personal experience and like you said this song must have been a representation of what he felt at that time. Since you're dancer and know the details of the choreography it's so satisfying to watch your reactions. If you don't mind, I would recommend Kang Daniel's another MV Who U Are and the dance practice. The dance practice is really cool.

He's a soloist with b-boying and modern dance roots who is also the CEO of his company after his former boy group disbanded in 2018. He went through hardships in 2019 after taking legal action against his company since it sold his contract rights without his consent. His former company ran smear campaigns to get him to cave, but he didn't relent since he was in the right. While this was going on, sometime in early 2019, he was diagnosed with depression and panic disorder. After the court sided with Daniel to suspend the contract, he started up his own company. Daniel was blacklisted from the Korean music industry for most of 2019 until his former company dropped their charges. Daniel was shaken by what he went through. Because of the smear campaigns, he had a lot of haters attacking him and spreading slander. He reached a breaking point in December 2019 and went on hiatus for his mental and physical health for a couple months. He wrote the lyrics to PARANOIA at that time when he lost his will to keep going. The song expressed his paranoia that he might hurt himself. After recording he said he thought, "Such dark topics and things can be just simply shared like this,” and was happy because he felt like he overcame his pain, like he surpassed his past self and his perspective became wider and could see things he wasn’t able to see before. Really proud of how far he's come and how open he is about his struggles. From a Soompi article, he said, "I believe this is a feeling everyone can relate to, there’s only a difference in the extent and the depth. I’m thankful that I can display the feelings I’ve felt through music. The reason I put focus on such a dark aspect is because the majority of people are reluctant to bring this up. I wanted to confess my inner concerns and communicate them."

Please(!) react to Kang Daniel’s “I Hope” dance practice (not the performance video). I’ve been a K-Pop fan for nearly a decade and it’s one of the most distinctive choreos I’ve seen. It draws on different influences and techniques than you usually see. And of course, Daniel just nails it perfectly. There hasn’t been a dancer react to this yet and it deserves your attention.

at 3:54 some text flashed across the screen that basically says they eyes are the swords as an idol constantly in the spotlight he is alwaysbeing watched (you can see in the mv with tv and cameras) and at the end on his hand there's words like failure, ugly, loser etc, which can represent the antis hate. The eyes are the window to the soul but the eyes are also of those who are watching him and finding ways to hate on him.

I really like the greek phrase he has written above his eyebrow at the end of the video. In Greek, it reads "Τα μάτια είναι σπαθί" which translates to "The eyes are like a sword". He encapsulated his view of the public and their idea about him and his situation in that phrase, whatever he did, does, and will do in the future are up to the public to interpret as they want, despite how he feels about it, despite his struggles, the way people look at you will always be razor-sharp, just like a sword. He is such a skillful artist, his talent is so vast and has such depth, it is actually commendable.

In my opinion, KDN is one of the best dancers in kpop and he is so talented. Most people think that he gained his fame easily since he attended produce 101 and won the first place. However, in the reality, he has been through so many hard time since he was young. He even wanted to give up becoming an idol. After finish Wanna One project, he again faced with so many tough situation and that why he wrote this song. Thanks to his strength and strong passion that lead him to the success today. I'm so glad that he can overcome those difficulties. I wish you could do more reaction to his work. For me, he is not just an idol, he is a real artist.
