FIRST REACTION to Golden Earring - Radar Love 

I grew up with Golden Earring and this amazing track was an anthem of my youth.

It's nice to see them in their older years and they did an amazing performance. But if you really want to hear the song in it's greatness you'll have to hear the original studio performance from 1973. Back when they had more of the fire inside.

I'm so old that I saw them play this live in a bar before it hit the US radio!

Over five decades experience just a singer alone, these guys have experienced since at least 1962 together. These gentlemen are in their 70s. Damn right they're awesome.

Greatest Dutch rock band ever! Unfortunately, the band dismantled in 2021 following the diagnosis of George Kooymans with ALS (the solo guitarist).

I couldn't remember exactly when this song was released, but thankfully for the comments section I now know it was the same year I was born. "Radar Love" is a good reminder of what makes classic rock and roll classic. How can you not love that sound? Especially with such a nice drum solo included! Sabina, thank you so much for this. They are the rock and roll legends of 'my' little country. The band was founded in 1961, so this is really old skool. That's is even a year before The Rolling Stones were founded! I grew up with it from the beginning. 🤩🤩🤩 It was quite normal for 3 generations of one family to be present during a performance.

Yes these are legends in the Netherlands, they are probably the biggest band we had. Sadly i have to say "had" because the lead guitarist (golden Gibson guitar) was diagnosed with MS a few years ago, the band decided to call it quits then. Fun fact few people are aware of, up till that point they were probably the oldest rock band still active in the world. Some will say "that has to be wrong, must be the Rolling Stones" who were founded in 1962, so yes.. old, the Golden Earring(s) was founded in 1961 and called it quits in solidarity in 2021. It's a shame they wont be performing anymore, but we got all those albums to remember them by, truly a great band.

I have seen Golden Earring 1973/74 in Germany. I think it was the ,,Bullentempel'' in Rendsburg and it was the first Quatrophenia - Sound, the Windows vibrating ...!

If I was part of this generation, I'd be ashamed that a bunch of old farts like this, could out-rock most bands today.

This song is 50 years old! It was released in 1973. They didn't have another hit in the US until the 80's with Twilight Zone.

In the twilight of their career they would tour the theaters in their Netherlands. I caught them a few times in such smaller venues and they were just as entertaining in a comfy acoustic setting as they were in the big concert halls.

This is how rock and roll concerts used to be. Most old rock bands can't do it any more or are mailing it in because they've been doing the same stuff over and over for so long. I saw Golden Earring in the 70's. This is better. They still bring it.

You are so sweet! Radar Love was launched in 1973, possibly long before your parents met. Golden Earring has therefore had the opportunity to develop their performance over decades, which is why they perorm so well!

Yeah, Radar Love is a staple for us older guys and gals. I'm 54 and that song was as big of a hit as anything you can think of - it's that damn DRUM SOLO bros

i live approx. 5km from their hometown. in 1973 this song was in all charts, also in the U.S.A.

Well known in the Netherlands, a little less outside of it. Their biggest international hits are Radar Love and Twilight Zone (last one made it to number one in the US). Songs I would also recommend are When the lady smiles, Another 45 miles from home and Going to the run.

Imagine almost fifty years ago I bought the album Golden Earring - 10 years, 20 hits..., with this song included.

Those old heads can really kick some ass. I've heard this song 100 times, but never saw the band play live. They really added a lot to it and ramped up the energy. Excellent!

I've met the drummer (Cesar Zuiderwijk) and even spoke with him a little while ! Really a relaxed guy. Met his wife too ! 😂

The Golden Earring from The Hague Netherlands...THE Altime Greatest longest performing Rock n Roll band of the Netherlands, had the uportunity to see those guys 6 times live and every time the Blew the roof off ..succes garantied..the guitar player/ singer George Kooijmans is suffering on a.l.s desease, and will trie to make one goodbye ,farewell concert ..to end over 50 years music history

One of the greatest Dutch bands, I still often play there songs. Also great are “Just A Little Bit Of Peace in my heart” or “Twilight Zone”

IMHO Dutch music often doesn't get the recognition it deserves . I think it may be because the majority of Dutch bands over the years have sung in English and I sometimes doubt whether people know they even come from Holland . From FOCUS and GOLDEN EARRING and SHOCKING BLUE in the late 60s / early 70s and in GE's case well in to the 80s . Then from the 90s onwards with THE GATHERING , AFTER FOREVER , DELAIN and on to the present with EPICA - and of course FLOOR JANSEN Dutch Rock and Metal has made an immense ( but often sadly forgotten ) mark on the world

You should watch a older performance when Ceasar (The Drummer) did a backflip over his toms on the drumkit when the song ended.

Greatest Dutch rockband of all times!!!!!!

This is the best band from Holland. The sad thing is they do not perform anymore because the gitarist has ALS. I have the privelige to seen them live and i can tell you they are fantastic. Every song is good and the perform like reall rockstars. They are worldfamous rockstars. Keep listening en loving this❤

Altho I have virtually all their Albums, I sadly only ever got to see them twice Live. They are, to this day, my go-to Band for listening to, whatever my mood. Also an absolute must, to get me easier thru my yearly appartment's deep clean, every spring.

You should have heard them live in the 70's - 80's , before they became grandfathers.... One of the many great bands from my hometown, Q-65 , Gruppo Sportive, Shocking blue, the motions, Urban Heroes, Kane etc etc...

Yes, they are legends to some. Yes Radar Love is one of the best road trip songs. Yes their drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk is good, so good that he had been asked if he would replace Keith Moon, I heard. I think the bassist is absolutely fantastic. He is not the front man, but lies in the background and lays down an absolutely fantastic groove with the drummer. Also believe to have heard if he wanted to play with Jimi Hendrix as well as one of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden sources of inspiration. The first time I saw and heard Golden Earring was as a warm-up for the Who in Copenhagen in 1972, where he gave a bass solo that was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, they didn't tour very much outside Holland, Belgium and Germany in recent years. Then only saw them 2 more times. Greetings Niels from Denmark

I have just Subscribed and 51 years late or later that, partially, makes up for me, getting the date of a London Concert wrong in 1973 and turning up to pay on the door with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London the week after they had already performed.. The poster, as we arrived, told us that they were on the PREVIOUS week and we never did get to ever see them. I don't think my best mate as ever truly forgave my stupidity and it was a very silent journey home after the wasted journey and he never let me organize any more Gigs....LOL

I remember this song when it first came out..around 1973. If memory serves, this was a track from the album ‘Moon Tan’ I don’t recall much from the band after that. This is one of those immortal tracks that adorns most rock fans top ten of classic rock songs…maybe I should add of a certain age🤪🤪. The Netherlands also have a rich musical talent base…Focus, Floor and Simone Simons, Within Temptation. Excellent visual appreciation Sabina..loved it.

Not sure if you know, while this LIVE performance is from 2015, Golden Earring originally recorded the song way back in 1973 and had a major hit. So this live performance is 42 ears after the song was an international hit!!!You have to remember, that everyone in the band, at this point is in their late 60's-early 70's. You should check out the original at some time, to see them as their younger selves.

One of the best long running bands ever to come from The Netherlands (the Hague). Their history goes back to 1961 when I was just a young child, epic is what they became on an international scale. Always exciting on stage and super drum solo here by Cesar Zuiderwijk. The original studio version of Radar Love was a hit in many countries including USA. Sadly in 2021 the lead guitarist George Kooymans was diagnosed with ALS, his health is rapidly declining.. As a result the band decided to immediately disband.

They did an amazing job here, with so much energy, but the studio version is the way to go for vocals.

I listened to them in the car dad driving us from Glasgow to John o' Groats to our new home there, I was 16 then and I'm now 66. Great music, another group in the same vein from back then was Bachman Turner Overdrive.

radar love and highway star by deep purple. they were 2 must have songs for a night of cruisin'. on 8 track of course. early 70's were some of the best days - and nights !

From what I can see of the venue, it is Ziggo Dome Amsterdam, the largest indoor venue in the Netherlands with a capacity of over 17000 people. The legendary Wembley Arena is somewhat smaller at a little more than 12000 people. Fun fact: Metallica did an instrumental cover of this song in the same venue a couple of years later.

Other great songs from them are She flies on strange wings, Another 45 miles, Long blond animal, Paradise in distress, to name a few, next to the usual already mentioned plentyful below.

I turned 16 and got my driver's license about the time this song came out. It became my road song!
