Tim Charles is the violinist/clean vocalist and he's very talented. Marc "Xenoyr" Campbell is the harsh vocalist. This song has such complexities in it that it was actually picked up by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to teach their students. A short one, you say? Pretty sure all of their songs are at least 5 minutes haha.

This man was about to have his entire existence being put into question by a 12 1/2 minutes song from the Clan Campbell. His constant repeating of "Hang on", "Hang on right there" or "I love that" could be an intro to a song and his Beyonce reference just provided imagery. Intra Venus next :) It's only about 7 minutes long.

The irony is Xen, the lead/harsh vocalist, has stated in multiple interviews that originally he hated prog metal. He's a black metal guy through and through and his background is there (as if his vocals weren't proof enough of that). But end of the day, the band just evolved into prog especially once Tim broke out the violin and the rest as they say is history.

This song is studied at the Sydney conservatory of music for composition. Tim(violin) is classically trained. Benji(lead gtr) is from France and their new bassist(not in this video but just as good) is from Italy. The drummer, Dan Presland has a drum play though RU-vid video definitely worth checking out. Cygnus the bassist also has a play through. I’ve experienced them live 3x, they never disappoint. As good as they sound on video, there’s no comparison to live!

I hope you will listen to more of their stuff, they are so much more than just this song, that everybody listens to anyway. I suggest either Devour Me, Colossus - part 1 (for which sadly no music video exists) or the song Forget Not from their first album. I am sure others will have other great suggestions (they have never recorded a bad song ;-) ) PS: This live version is wonderful, but please do yourself the favor and listen to the studio recording. Finally somebody is acknowledging what the bass does in this song. Hence why we've been requesting this group for months now. One thing to note, this isn't like one of those single songs that is the only song similar to it on an album. "A shorter song" ...ahhhhh....about that .... NeO is one of those bands that I really hope more people get to experience, their work is phenomenal - and I hope they get the popularity and exposure they deserve. They're a local band for me, and I was introduced to them years ago when they opened for Soilwork - I think it's the only concert I've been to where I left needing to know who the opening act was, because I enjoyed them more the the main act (not a slur at Soilwork either! They were just so great live). The hardest part is remembering their damned name, I was lucky enough that one of my friends not only was there at the concert but already knew the band. If you're curious, the drummer Dan Presland has a RU-vid channel where he show some of his exercises as well as practice sessions and some concerts from the GoPro and other drum cams - the mix is also more drum centric. Really impressive stuff. Other songs. Well, this is my favourite by far. Though I think everything off Portal of I is brillaint. From other albums check out Eyrie (11 minutes), Intra Venus (7 minutes), Pyrrhic (9 minutes), Devour me, Colossus Part I (12 minutes), Of the Leper Butterflies (5 minutes), and Urn pt II: As Embers Dance in Our Eyes (6 minutes) EDIT: Also the song Curator (5 minutes) They're really a band where albums are important to listen to as a whole, I find. If you're looking for something different, I can't recall if I've ever suggested Melting Sun IV: Jade Fields by Lantlos? I describe the album as a summer day dream...but metal

He’s great but, as a violinist myself when you hear, in the beginning when the note whines, goes off tone and goes quiet all I can think of is one of my tutors saying “MORE POWER! ROSIN YOUR BOW!” It tends to accidentally occur from not enough pressure or rosin on the bow strings to get a good enough grip on the string to make a smooth sound.. Like I said, I’m sure it’s purposeful, he’s very talented I could only get that accidentally or without the amount of control. Seriously skilled violinist.

I think when I did this video I was surprised by more than one lefty as well.

Sooner or later, Ne Obliviscaris was gonna happen :-) Now if you want some king of less screamy and busy prog, go for Green Carnation playing "My Dark Reflections of Life and Death", live at Caledonien Hall.

Finally this reaction! Excellent. I suggest you try next "Heilung - Krigsgaldr (LIFA Live)", very different approach to "metal" music.

Forget Not is another masterpiece by them. Definetely need to check out. Also i need a reaction from you to this Chase :) I will list very special bands your channel needs a reaction and I KNOW that you will enjoy them. Probably some of them you know and not doing reactions because you know them but still i will try my chance if you don't. Here is the list of bands and their some "getting into" songs imo: Tool- Sober(live). You must have heard of them but if not definete must. Porcupine Tree- Anesthetize(live). Dream Theater- Dance of eternity(live) Liquid Tension Experiment- Acid Rain(live, Dream theater guys on their instrumental band) These are all masterpiece prog bands and a must if you are not aware of them as i said. I hope you read this and answer because i know that you will fall in love with each one :) Have a nice day sir

Ill say tho, ppl arent mentioning that this song has old school American vibes even tho its Australian. Its like a mix of American Folk, Metal, and Jazz. Very interesting.

The bassist, Brendan "Cygnus" Brown is no longer with the band, following allegations of domestic violence. Apparently he was the victim of abuse for years, and is getting help. Abuse is cyclical, and men are victims too. Don't wrestle your demons alone, get help.

Me: “oh he’s reacting to Ne Obliviscarus, yes please” then every minute as he comments “but wait”... then such satisfaction as the next section kicks in.

Chase that was a gorgeous reaction. I love Your face expresion. This song has a very complex structure (this whole video is a one song) and I'm so glad that You want to shear Your knowlege (I hope this video wasn't export four day). Maybe it's only me but guitar in the solo sound like a violin. Whole musicianship is fantastic. Dan Presland (drummer) do a great drumming video to this song.
