I went to a rock festival once where Avenged Sevenfold was the headliner. It started raining so a couple bands canceled. A7X decided to stay. By the time they came on the rain turned into a thunderstorm. A7X also had massive flamethrowers as part of the show. So there we were, with thunder and lightning crashing in the background, flames all around us, going hard in a mosh pit to this song. One of the craziest moments of my life. I'll never forget M. Shadows yelling out "This city is fucking crazy. You people are fucking wild"
A similar thing happened to me in Rockingham, NC when Metallica was on stage. It started raining with thunder and lightning. They had fire and whatnot on that tour but they didn't need it. All I remember is the lightning making it's own light show and the 4 guys playing their heart out. It seemed like the harder it rained or the nastier it was, the harder they played and the more we loved it. That was a beast of a concert.
"Who has been to a concert with this song" Hi there! Lifelong Avenged fan, been watching them live for almost two decades. "Nightmare" thrashes, but "Unholy Confessions" is when I broke my leg moshing. Rest in Peace Jimmy, we miss you. #riptheREV
They've been my favorite band since 2007. Seen them live 4 times, once with Metallica. A7X is just... on a whole different level. Unholy Confessions is definitely the song where shit gets broken lol #foREVer
Yup yup, finally went to see them after waking the fallen came out, all songs from bat country on till they encored with unholy confessions. One of the best pits I’ve ever been in.
Not all there live shows, when I saw them everyone was vibing and I thought it was gonna be more wild, it was kinda disappointing but they played some of my faves so its cool
I've been to one and it was crazy. But the crowd was even better. One person did lose it and the crowd let him know. They got him out of there so quick. Metal crowds are some of the best crowds of ones I've been to.
My brother and I were gonna go see them live at Tinley Park but they cancelled the show because M. Shadows tore a vocal chord or something like that. I was so sad and disappointed ☹️
I saw them in concert in 2010. They started setting up guitars and stuff on the stage and then there was a guy walking on the scaffolding up in the rafters. He looked drunk. He was staggering around everyone started yelling get down. The spot light got put on him. He then produced a noose put it around his neck and jumped before anyone really knew what was going on. As soon as the slack tightened and he hung there. The lights in the place went dark and there was a fireball and the first chord of the song kicked in. It was like getting punched in the gut and it was awesome. The dude was wearing a harness and they got him down discreetly. This is a true story. I will never forget that show.
@@garymaddux2000 Uproar was the first real event I'd ever been to. While I don't listen to much of their music they set the bar pretty high for showmanship
The imagery of each band member in the Insane Asylum is a representation of how each of them felt when the original drummer The Rev, passed away and how they felt coming to terms with that loss
Hella late to the party on this one, the imagery of the video is also heavily inspired by the film "Jacob's Ladder", a pretty heavy movie that late A7x drummer The Rev was a massive fan of. Word of caution if anyone checks out the film, it deals with some pretty intense subject matter.
That'd give Layedbak a better idea of why that song was so sad, especially the ending scenes of the video when they go into the archival footage of Rev
This song, as well the entire album by the same name was dedicated to Jimmy "The Rev", their drummer who OD'ed. The lyrics are about their pain of the loss, but also their anger at him for letting himself get that bad. It's actually incredibly heartbreaking when you learn that this song is about someone they grew up with and loved like a brother.
This song is in direct contrast to their song “Afterlife”. One is about someone in the afterlife trying to escape and get a second chance at life while the other is about someone arriving in hell and realizing they’ll be there forever. There’s even some call backs to the afterlife music video.
I’m a huge fan of metal music I always find it so cool to see fans of other genres like hip hop digging songs from rock and metal bands and being open minded of other music genres, great reaction my guy 🙌🏻
@@hounddog601 if u like that kind of stuff at live shows then man you should go to an alice cooper concert. Last one i went to he cut his own head of with a guillotine and a giant baby came on stage and paraded it round whilst singing i love the dead. He sings loads of well known songs like "no more mister nice guy", "schools out", "poison" etc but some of his better songs are "wind up toy", "hey stupid" and "desperado" i also like "ballad of dwight fry" and "welcome to my nightmare"
@@aimeemcmurry3540 I saw that show. First time seeing av7 or Metallica and I won snake pit passes. It was the absolute best. Got to say a few words to Kirk Hammett as he was standing right above me!! Just saw them twice at louder than life and caught a pick from Kirk this time! Too bad av7 wasn't there!
I just got hip to your rock/metal reactions and you've definitely covered some bangers, this is my favorite band of all time, every album is different, really hope you do more Avenged Sevenfold in the future
What about I won’t see you tonight pt1? Went totally under my radar untill found it few years ago and gave me a whole new appreciation to m.shadows voice.
Saw them live during this tour. They opened with this song, and right when it dropped they had a dude drop from above them (wearing a harness) so it looked like he hung himself. Fire, explosions, crazy mosh. Top 3 shows I have seen, and i have seen Metallica and Iron Maiden live.
They were so so fuckin good on the nightmare tour, portnoy killed it on drums too, honestly probably the best live vocal performance I’ve ever seen, I seen them other times and they kicked ass but they were so perfect on the nightmare tour and shadows was just on another level, absolutely nailing screams on songs like god hates us too. Man I wish I could go back and see that show ago, it was amazing and I’ll never forget, one of the best I’ve ever been to.
I went to one of their concerts at the golden 1 center a couple years ago and they did this song and yes, you’re correct, there was a mosh pit right in front of the stage and the band was going crrrrrrazy, the lead guitarist extended his guitar solo to this song, and it was MADDDD!!!
I'm glad you picked up A7X again... was worried you gave up on them after you did the Little Piece of Heaven reaction. This band has some incredible songs.
I've been to many of their shows, and I've had their logo tattoo'd on my arm since 2007. I don't listen to them much anymore, but they're one of the most important bands of my entire life.
Avenged sevenfold was my first concert in 2007, I was 17. It was right when they released this album. I accidentally ripped out a girls hoop earring in the mosh pit. Good times.
The guitarist who does all the solos is my favorite guitarist of all times! He’s called Synyster Gates 🤩 Love the whole band, these dudes got me into metal 12 years ago! My favorite band of all times!! Glad your patreons requested this song, your reaction was awesome! 😍
Hey my guy, you gotta check out "I Prevail - D.O.A" it's an absolute must. It features Joyner Lucas and it is an awesome message and fits very well with what's going on in the world right now. But as always ❤️ your shit bro
This is one of those songs where, even if the song itself is AMAZING, the context of its release is SO important, because it also dictates little elements and 'easter eggs' that you can pick up on the video. For all of us, long time A7X fans, this video was one of the most powerfull ever, and the release of the whole album is one I think none of us is ever going to forget. As much as I love other albums, listening to this record for the first time is one of those experiences I can remember like it was yesterday, because it was painful, exciting, and just overwhelming altogether. Their drummer, The Rev, passed while they were writing the album, and for a while we all didn't even know if the band was going to continue without him. They decided to go on and, as a tribute to him, you can listen to some vocals he recorded before passing, and all his drums were recorded by one of his favorite drummers ever (Mike Portnoy). This video was released in may 2010, about 5 months after he passed, and there are iconic elements from previous videos related to Jimmy in the rooms. Idk, I could go on for hours hahaha I just thought it was important to provide at least some context for those not as familiar with the band that might want to know a little bit more. With that said, you're 100% correct. To experience this song live is MIND-FUCKING-BLOWING. One of the best moshpits I've ever been a part of.
I seen them in concert and they opened with this song. It was pitch black when the beginning was playing And when it jumped into the song, they had fire and crazy lights. It was such a great experience. The crowd was fucking nuts. I was in the front :) it was so great seeing you enjoy this !
Hey, Layedbak A little bit of information about this song: This song was one of the last songs that was written by the original drummer, Jimmy "The Rev"Sullivan, prior to his untimely death, he'd actually written the drum track but hadn't recorded it prior to his untimely death, hence the empty drum kit displayed at the end of the video and the reason why you never saw the the drummer's performance throughout the video's runtime When the band did record the drum track, they'd recruited Dream Theater drummer, Mike Portnoy, to play the drums on this song and offered to have him in the music video, but Portnoy declined to appear in the video as he'd felt that it'd take away from the feeling of the song and that it implied that he'd officially become the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold in the wake of Rev's passing
I was scared you won't be reacting to Avenged after your experience with A Little Piece of Heaven But I had been waiting and hoping for this reaction nonetheless cuz I knew you'd get mad hyped😂💪
Listen to this means war, Shepard of fire, unholy confessions. And I've been to their concert and dude its amazing I legit lost my voice singing this song!🔥🔥🔥
Stumbled upon your video. Ive been to one of their concerts. I will say. Hearing a full stadium screaming “its your fucking nightmare” all at once is one of the most spine tingling experiences ive ever heard
Brings me so much joy to watch his face light up for something new every 10 seconds or so in this song. One of my favs. Insane, unbelievable modern band
2 years late to discovering you channel, but I was there, when this song first came out, before the album dropped. The opened with nightmare, It was absolute insanity, flames shooting up on the stage, still remember like it was yesterday.
Nobody ever mentions how good Syn is at solos. Solos have become rarer and rarer nowadays in favor of breakdowns, but A7x keeps that old tradition going. They really shedded that emo screamy style a while back. A shame they've been just out of the spotlight for the last decade or so, they deserve more fame like when they where in the 2000's.
I've been to their concerts 3x and they played it once, mosh pits tried to form but the music was SO good people just wanted to jump up and down, headbang, and rock tf out!! outside of Metallica they are hands down the BEST I have ever seen in person!
ive beeen an A7X fan since 2003, ive seen them with the rev and without. during this song while its hype and amazing was also bitter sweet in 2009 when i got to see it live beacuse thats when the rev passed. also the intro to this song live had a man jump from the rafters of the arena and hang himself.
That was epic! And it really was a man, not a stunt dummy. He literally hung there the entire time, and they even cut his body down n put it on a stretcher at the end. Lol People really thought it was real. Haha. Best band live, hands down.
I saw them at a festival and they played a _huge_ set, so all their really good songs, the popular and the unpopular, had a time to shine and that show was damn crazy. M. Shadows, the singer, literally flew in with a helicopter during the concert.
Was at a rock festival in IA where they were preceded by Disturbed. A7X opened up with this song; but I forgot to mention that they opened this song with a fake corpse being hanged.... the pits opened up almost immediately. Rest in power, Rev -- you're gone, but never forgotten.
