I was lucky enough to buy him a beer and hangout with him at his Chevy Metal show a few years ago at the Xgames.. I'm fucking heartbroken but wont ever forget the badass he was. He's the reason I learned to play the drums.. I've got the same kit he played in this video.
Fun Fact: Dave Grohl (the singer) actually blew out his vocal chords while recording the vocal fry for this song, and continued to record through the pain. It ended up being the version they used for the album because he managed to stay in tune near perfectly despite the damage.
Kind of reminds me of Revolution by The Beatles. They had been recording all day, and John Lennon's vocal cords were shot, which resulted in the super ragged, angsty version of the song that was released on the album
I'm sceptical how true this is. Pushing on after damaging your vocal chords is extremely harmful and could've ended his career completely. I doubt an experienced frontman like him would risk that. Also I can't find any news articles that back it. There is one from 2015 that he damaged his throat on tour but didn't push it because of the reason I already said.
@@allornothingproductions6690 David Dramian, the lead singer of disturbed, has had multiple throat surgeries due to his vocals, and he pushes on. It's called being metal AF
I was like: "This dude can't be serious. How in the world he never heard freaking Pretender?" but I don't think I know two Snoop Dogg's songs, so yeah...
I find myself being accidentally hypocritical like that. I'm like "you've never heard Metallica" but I can't name more than 1 NWA songs of the top of my head I'm trying to do better about it though
I LITERALLY said out loud, "Famous last words..." But imagine being in his position, listening to this song for the first time with the volume high up? God... it's a thing of beauty.
I feel you on that. My friends only listen to hip hop and and rap and when you try to put on anything else all you hear from them are turn that shit music off.
I was at one of the "Throne" shows, at the Gorge Amphitheater. Amazing venue, amazing show. They didn't miss a beat. One of the best bands for a live show. Maximum energy.
Don't really think it's an opinion, it's more of a fact, dude is the lead of arguably one of the best bands of today and drummed for Nirvana and Queens of The Stone Age, finished a concert with a broken leg, the dude truly is a god 👌
And as one of the top Musicians that still does a hell of a lot of Sessional work for other bands and groups. Not to mention the bands that he also has his name tied to directly. See him pop up from time to time in the background for some groups that he normally isn't linked to in the fine print.
Dave Grohl is a one of a kind person, and performer. I've only seem him once, my seats were not that good at all. But he was all over the place, had so much energy. The entire stadium was on fire. Brought a kid on stage let him rock out, joked with him. It was great! My favorite performer.
DAVE GROHL IS A GOD. How many other artists would fall off the stage, break their leg, come back on stage with a dr holding their foot in place and then continue the gig?( then build a throne of to sit on to continue the tour) NONE
HE MET THAT DOCTOR AGAIN ON A NORWEGIAN-SWEDISH TALKSHOW (SKAVLAN) AND IT WAS AMAZING. Turns out the doctor was also a huge fan of the band, and the whole interview is just wholesome altogether. the drummer is also on the show with dave! the interview is on youtube somewhere, just search for "dave grohl skavlan" (:
I'm sure 1.5 billion K-pop fans can't believe you've never heard of BTS but we like what we like. They are arguably the most successful band on earth right now. And even from that, I couldn't name a single one of their songs or what they sound like lol. There are people who have never heard music passed some dusty old CD player that has the best of the 80's on it that got when they were 5.
Foo Fighters are one of the greats in rock. The frontman is Dave Grohl, who was the drummer for Nirvana. A lot of their songs either deal with either social issues or mental health and it's overlooked a lot. Their documentary is a great watch too!
eWayxREAPzzz yeah, no, I figured that part out. I was just asking if you knew if Foo Fighters are grunge or alternative rock (or both). I don’t know myself.
Ngl though, Dave sounds like a dying horse live. Don't get me wrong, the man's energy on stage is why I've been to 3 concerts and would definitely go to more, but sometimes you just gotta laugh at the notes he misses.
Welcome to Dave, the dudes a genius and a true performer. He broke his leg on stage, had it patched up live in front of the crowd, joked with the paramedic "Are you nervous?“ and finished the show.
He played in MA in the states, and my little 3rd cousin (with a broken arm) got hoisted up to the stage so Dave could sign his cast (he still had his own cast on). Awesome dude.
Tim Eyre....yes we agree but previously Dave Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana before Kurt Cobain passed away. So that’s where he’s making the joke guy.
Inducted Paul McCartney into the rock n roll hall of fame, straight up bought a legendary studio to keep it from closing and keep that piece of rock history alive, is Tenacious D's devil...
I knew of them before, I love Green Day and nirvana, and also motley, Megadeth, Metallica, GnR, ya know, lots of bands, but the foo fighters I just hadn’t gotten into. But they did something really cool to get me to notice them, and now I love them. I was really impressed with them when they pulled up on the westboro Baptist church and drowned out their protests, and then later on rickrolled them and drowned out their protests again 😂🤘. I had never given them the time of day before, ( not because I thought they were bad I just hadn’t listened to them ) and now that I’ve listened to them they’re one of my favorite bands. Long live the fight against the Foo!
Dave Grohl is the modern king of rock, this is me n my old man’s song, we’re from the UK n we were lucky enough to see Foo Fighters in Glasgow, Bellahouston Park, they’ve done many things for society such as crashing an anti-gay rally, they are the definition of living legends.
Welcome to the Foo Fighters. One of the greats. Enjoy more from them: Everlong, Monkey Wrench, ALL MY LIFE!!!, My Hero, Best Of You, Times Like These, Walk... really an endless supply of Foo Fighters great songs. I can't see you ever saying TRASH to one of theirs. Trust Me.
Foo Fighters are definitely one of the most recognizable and primary flagships of Rock in the late 90s and 2000s. It was the best thing that happened to Dave Grohls music career, where he finally was recognized as a Rock and Roll genius. It's a real shame these reactions are blocked so frequently, as it is definitely some of the best material.
This song was a response to Courtney Love's claims that Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana and lead singer of Foo Fighters, used Kurt Cobain's suicide as a jumping point for his band's fame, even though Courtney attempted the same with her band Hole, so Dave wrote this song and it became a massive hit Edit: this is second hand info, more accurately I got it from a WatchMojo video, so if you have a more reliable source, please do feel free to correct me
In a 2007 interview with XFM, frontman Dave Grohl stopped short of explaining the meaning behind "The Pretender", but alluded its roots go to current political unrest. Grohl noted: "That's the thing with lyrics, you never want to give away specifics, because it's nice for people to have their own idea or interpretation of the song. But, you know, everyone's been fucked over before and I think a lot of people feel fucked over right now and they're not getting what they were promised, and so something to do with that."
There is actually proof, that Courtney killed Kurt herself, there were no fingerprints on the gun and he probably was too high to wipe them away, and other stuff like that. Not definitive proof, but still interesting. Especially after I saw this
You really need to see them live. Seen them 3 times. One time he fell off the stage in Sweden and broke his leg. I was ready to go home but he came back on crutches and finished the concert. Dave Grohl is a living legend. Enjoy him while we all can.
Its such a perfect song! There's a club in my hometown that plays really good music from any genre and man I went insane when they played this. Such a great song to party to! P.s. my hometown has no corona cases and country barely any so thats why going to the club is safe
@@franknabozny6062 lol, i was listening to cochise and it came up after( for some reason foo fighter's pretender always was playing as the next video everytime i listened to cochise but this time show me how to live came up)
I can't even express how much I enjoy these kinds of videos. Specifically you, LayedBak, and NoLifeShaq. Both of you take leaps of faith, based only on fan suggestions, into music I've been listening to for most of my life, and I can actually see you enjoying the hell out of it. Goddamned it warms my heart.
"Turn it up." Me: That's a bad idea. *Seconds later* Yep, that was the face I was expecting lol (Edit: Maybe it's me, but I loved how LayedBak usually stops to comment on the lyrics. But this one had him rocking too hard!)
If you want more Foo Fighters: "Hey, Johnny Park!" "This is a call" Pretty much all of "The Color and the Shape" as well. If you like these guys, you should also check out Queens of the Stone Age.
When it comes to volume, one of the things rock always prided itself on was dynamics, it's ok for music to be low and then build, hip hop went a different direction with over compression to compete on the radio so everything is normalised, with rock, enjoy the dynamics as part of the craft
The “different energy” in this that you’re talking about I think is your first real exposure to that punk energy. Foo Fighters are not a punk band, and this is not a punk song, but punk music is in its DNA for sure. If you wanna deep dive that a little I highly recommend for you some Bad Brains, some Minor Threat, Rage Against The Machine, maybe some Fever 333 songs, Mindset, Stiff Little Fingers, Snapcase, fuck there’s too many good ones to name just now
God your reactions reminded me why I LOVE rock and roll. The energy, the passion, the fighting spirit. Love it soooooo much. Sometimes if I'm stuck in a rut, I just listen to songs like this and get myself motivated. :)
I’ve been listening to the Foo Fighters since I was 4 years old. My parents introduced me to them. They were my first concert when I was ten, and I was front row in a venue of 1400 people. I’ve seen them multiple times since then. I love seeing stuff like this, awesome reaction. 👍🏻😁
I love the fact that the second voice is the drummer. Mans going ham on the drums. Using everything he has and then adding his own vocals to it. I know I’d die trying to sing and drum.
He has full songs, where he does all the vokals while playing the drums (live as well), even has his own band, where he is just drummer and singer. As in they have no other singer then him, and he does full sets of drumming an singing ^^ in FF they actually sometimes switch up, dave on the drums and taylor on the mic. It's frickin amazing
Don't forget he went a slightly different direction as well afterwards. But without Nirvana we wouldnt of had a lot of different types of music. Most of it would still be considered Underground.
Don't get me wrong, The foo's are one of my favourite bands of all time however I prefer Nirvana and it's unlikely we would even know the Foo Fighters without Nirvana. Dave's even said it himself
Honestly, you crack me up. I’m from the UK and I grew up with this kind of music. I found you from your Eminem content, which is fire! And all your breakdown of Rap videos. However, this is just the tip of the Ice burg your touching. You should check out: All I Want- by A Day To Remember. 🔥 Carry on the amazing work bud!
