Even though RU-vid might hate the book talks I don’t. I have the notifications for them. Of course you have to make the content that makes you happy and inspired. But I can also promise you that you will have at least have me religiously watch the book talks (at least the spoiler free section 😉). 👍
Same! When I finish a book that I know Christine has a book talk for I go and watch that video right away because I want to see what she thought about it too!
If you look at her The Toll booktalk they have a dramtic less amount of views than her other videos. I suppose it's because only people who have read the book can watch it (not sure what she means by youtube algorithm)
Comfort Reads with the RU-vid algorithm she probably means that they're starting to care less about book talks. I don't know if it's what I'm watching but I haven't seen an actual serious book talk come up in my recommendations for ages.
It’s probably because people turn them off after the spoiler free section. The RU-vid algorithm is the way youtube deduces whether your video is worth suggesting to other people. One of the things it takes into account is whether people stay to watch the full video. If loads of people are leaving after the first few minutes, youtube is going to recommend it to less people unfortunately
yall i have to say this here because now i'm all anxious due to some comments: i shared this info about booktalks because I know a lot of you love them, as do i and I've wanted to let you know what's up there for a while. (and i will continue to do them for cassie titles and sj maas and ones where i feel i can't NOT like the toll.)
Beautifully put. I don't know why people think they can say whatever they want when they are hiding behind their computer screens but it is awful. Your videos are awesome and the important people will never stop watching them! Have a great day :)
I LOVE book talks! Especially yours. They are always SO funny and fun and you can feel how into them you are. Gets me all hype to read them myself! It’s the reason I got so into Cassandra Clare and and SJM. I especially enjoy when you quote the funny parts that made me laugh too! Don’t listen to haters as t swizzle would say HATERS GONNA HATE HATE HATE. You’re fabulous and your book talks have made a huge different in my reading experience! Never stop doing them❤️ luv you Christine!
The thing is, I love your book talks but I haven’t read a lot of the books you make your book talks on so I can’t watch them, like with The Toll. I still haven’t even read Thunderhead so I definitely can’t watch that one lmao. I don’t see a single problem with your book talks and i don’t know why people are critiquing you as a person and creator. That’s absolutely not fair.
polandbananasBOOKS i absolutely LOVE your booktalks, they’re hilarious and so thought through, like all the analysis you do about the story blows my mind and makes me realize things about the books that I wouldn’t have otherwise. Also they’re great for recommendations, like my TBR list is mostly books you’ve done booktalks about. And ALSO when I wanna remember a book cause the sequel came out or i wanna relive my experience with a book but don’t have time to reread it, watching your booktalks is a lifesaver. I’ll also admit I’ve watched your Cassie booktalks a million times as pick-me-ups when I’m feeling down and they never fail to make me laugh. Best of luck
For the record, I have always loved your book talks! I didn’t even know there were some people who have issue with them. It’s always exciting to me to sit down and watch your book talk after I’ve finished the book myself- I love to hear your opinions and theories. I often agree with you and share similar opinions and therefore trust you a ton on recommendations. That’s how I found your channel in the first place like six years ago- none of my friends read so I was looking for a place I could share reading experiences and thoughts. Your book talks will always have a special place in my heart
@@polandbananasBOOKS ik Im a little late but please reply??!!! WHAT SONG IS THAT I NEED TO KNOW????!!! Please and thank you also love the video. 🖤🖤🖤🖤☺☺☺
My first read of 2020 was your book, Christine! I really enjoyed it, could not put it down, and my reading vlog of it is coming out on my channel soon! 📸🤗
and it's all about how long you watch a video and with booktalks a lot of people watch the first two minutes and leave so it crashes the video health immediately.
@@polandbananasBOOKS Maybe make a separate channel(or one of your other ones) to post them on so it doesn't kill your main channel and link to them in the description. I understand that they are probably a lot of work to make when you could put your efforts elsewhere, but it seems like you really want to make them so why not just do it if you have the time and have fun doing them.
@@madikellylisysky yeah i want to make them but they take so much time and i don't have the time lol and if i can't put them here without literally murdering my mental health it's not worth it unless it's a big one like cassie or sarah j maas or something i HAVE to do one for you know
@@polandbananasBOOKS sorry to hear that 😥 maybe wenn should just start something like recaps for our favorite books, since a Lot of people have a hard time remembering everything🤔
Maybe you could do another channel just for booktalks? That way it won't affect your analytics on here but you can still make them and people that love them can go to that channel? I know Hannah Witton did something similar to this in 2019 - she set up a second channel for more casual vids and things that were more lifestyle so that she would be less stressed about the view counts. Obvs only a suggestion for if you still wanted to do booktalks - I know it would be a lot of extra work for little reward so obvs understand if it wouldn't suit. I love the booktalks but I only watch the ones that I've read myself because I don't want to get spoiled - I wish I could read faster so I could watch all of them for you 😅
Every time I read a book I always RUN to your channel to see your book talks! Love them! Do what makes you happy! We’re here for you ❤️🇧🇷 I’ve read 26 books in 2019! Aiming for 30 this year ☺️
I always aim for 150 books a year - I keep track of them on goodreads. I think as long as you are enjoying what you read it doesn’t matter the quantity 😀
Spinning Out: Netflix’s hidden gem 💎 When I saw the trailer I was literally counting down the the days until it came out. All my friends were like “Spinning what” and now everyone is talking about it.
I LOVE YOUR BOOK TALKS! never stop. your book talks are literally what made me find my now favorite books ever, and you’ve done that for me for years. every time i need a new book, your channel is the first place i go
I absolutely love your book talks. You show so much emotion and add humor to whatever your talking about and it makes your booktalks my absolute favorite.
I started watching you like 7 years ago because of your book talks I love them so much and they make me read so many books that aren’t as popular. I’m reading Scythe right now because your book talk for it looks so exciting. I can’t believe some ppl don’t like them wow. But I respect what you chose to do either way! Gotta do what’s best for your channel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The amount of books I have read each year ebbs and flows. When I had my children I read very few. I was lucky to read 10. When I was in college I also didn’t read many outside of textbooks. Being a grade school teacher I challenge my students to read 40 books a year. Well, if I ask them to do it then I have to too. So for the past 10 years or so I have read around 50 books a year. Now that I am retired, I hope to read around 70. Last I read 52. I was disappointed, but I have to think that my mother had a stroke and passed. I live with my grandchildren who don’t give me much time to read and I read slowly. As long as you read then who cares how many you read! 😄
My favourite part of finishing a book is going on RU-vid and hoping you have a booktalk for it because I always love comparing my opinions to yours!!! We love book talks xx
I read 163 books last year, but I should note that I read a lot of comics and manga. Counting only prose books, my number’s more like 70-75, which I’m still pretty proud of.
Hi queen! Will you be doing a Chain of Gold review video? You haven’t been doing reviews that much anymore but I do hope you make a Chain of Gold one when it comes out! I live for your shadowhunter reviews. 🖤
I miss booktalks so much!! I used to come watch your booktalks after I finished a book. They are so fun and feel like a bookclub, especially for people who don't know other readers IRL. I say bring the booktalks back!! :)
I read 20 books in 2019, but I’m also a mom of a toddler and a newborn, work full time, and then all the other adulting priorities. I wish I had the energy to read more lol. But I do set a goal because it holds me accountable to find time for myself! As adults, we get so caught up in what we HAVE to do that we don’t find the time for the things we WANT to do. So it’s my special ‘me’ time! And audiobooks while driving to and from work are THE BEST! My reading goal for 2020 is 25 so🤞
Your book talks were the videos that introduced me to BookTube and give me so much life I miss them :) make the content you love to make and we’ll love it💕💗 Also I just wanted to say you inspire me so much Christine as an author and reader and future BookTuber I can’t even express it!
Girl I loooove your book talks!!! You put me on The Toll train and when I doubled back to the talk after finishing it (I so appreciate your spoiler warnings), my love for the book got ten times bigger. So. We want them back. Kthanksbyeeee
I love your book talks and am so glad you will keep doing them for Cassie and SJM books! My last read of 2019 was also A Curse So Dark and Lonely, which I loved so much!!
Please please please bring back booktalks! I know they might not get as many views, but if you do them just occasionally then those of us who watch will be ecstatic!
I religiously use your book talks for my next read, often skimming your thumbnails for book talks to remind myself of what I should be reading because I know you loved it so much you made a book talk on it. I’d really hope that if you love making them, that you continue to do so because I’m sure many others like me rely on them as well for refreshers or recommendations. You’re a great creator. Please don’t take any non-constructive criticism to your content to heart.
I know a lot of people have already said it, but I wanted to add another positive opinion: I love your book talks! And all of your other videos, too! As long as you're creating and commentating, I will be watching and supporting :)
Thank you for letting us all know about the booktalks (wish it wasn't the case but totally understand) and thank you for all the videos you make!!! they're all brilliant and I'll take any of your book wisdom! Also, I just wanted to say I love stories I Ate this month for so many reasons, they're such a good idea!
I didn't read much at all in 2019, because I've been working on my book. The edits though... I love how they're coming along. Hopefully you had a good New Years, Christine. God Bless, take care + happy reading :)
Ugh i love your book talks. I go back to your book talks that you posted YEARS ago for series I’m reading just to refresh my memory so i can pick back up to where i left off (picked back up the shatter me series after a few months and the book talk helped me pick up where i left off!) please continue to do book talks. 📚❤️ also.. I just picked up Again, but Better like 30 minutes ago. So excited! ✨
Christine I love your book talks and I immediately go watch them as soon as I finish any cassie book! (Or other ones I know you’ve done) 😊 But I hope you do whatever your heart tells you to do instead of focusing on the comments 💕
I read 241 books last year. Some were for school but most were for pleasure. I also love the book talks. They are great for recommendations and deciding what I want to read next.
Even though I've been a follower for this channel for over 7 years, I've never left a comment! I always love watching your book talks and just feeling your energy (the first video I watched was mourning period and I laughed myself to tears). It saddens me to hear that the algorithm/toll is really hurting your channel. Is there a patreon or kofi that I or other subscribers could use to support you? It's totally fine if there isn't one too, of course. Keep doing whats best for you! P.S. If it doesn't totally kill your channel or your soul, please do a reaction for Red Scrolls of Magic!!!!
I read about 46 books in 2019. And I know that 46 is like a lot of books to read in a year but I find myself still thinking I can do better. Last year I had this list of specific books I wanted to read every month (which I barely followed) so this year I’m just gonna read whatever makes me happy. My first book this year was Scythe and now I’m already on The Toll. I can’t wait to watch your book talk!!!
I'm glad you risked upsetting the RU-vid algorithm for The Toll booktalk! The last time I counted how many books I read, which was three years ago, I read 43. That was during my senior year of high school.
I am behind on my videos and finally got around to this. Every year I try to read 100 books and last year was the only year I have failed since I started doing it. I am in no way sad or upset that I didn't reach that number, I got pretty close (I think it ended up somewhere in the 90's) but it was certainly a rush to the finish line. Sometimes you just have a busy year and for it being my first year of University I'm pretty proud of myself. Also I love the booktalks, I watch all the ones for the books that I have read and wait impatiently for myself to finish a book so I can watch your booktalk for it.
I read 103 books in 2019 and with that completed my fourth year in a row reading a hundred books a year an beating my Goodreads goal. You contributed massively because I got so many really good recommendations from you. Thank you so much. I hope to beat my goal again this year but that will be hard because of university stress.
Ok first I freaking love your shirt!! But I've been wanting to read Ninth House since it came out and watching this video made me even more excited (Leigh is our QUEEN lol)!! Also I hope you make a video when Miss Americana comes out bc I'm hella pumped!!
I started watching you when you had less than 30k subs and since then i literally discovered an infinite amount of amazing books, all thanks to your booktalks
I use an app called Bookly and I got it before there was a monthly description so I have lifetime subscription. Anyways I was it to track my reading progress and book and stuff. I leave comments and all. I really like it cause at the end of a book it will tell me small things like how many pages i read/day, etc. It just told me I've read 13 in the past 2 months. Love your channel and been with you since 2013. ❤
I always count how many books I read in a year, not because I really care, but because I like making lists and I think it’s fun to have a list to look back on. I read 56 books past year, but that was counting some graphic novels and manga.
Low key I really needed that encouragement to carry on w Ninth House bc all the societies and everything was so confusing, but imma give it a second try 🙌🏼
My goal is 78 - a book and a half a week. And I'm pretty 50/50 between audio and physical books. But I count rereads and I will go weeks without reading any and then have a week where I will like binge a series or something. And I love your book talks, but totally support you doing what you have to do on RU-vid!
EXCUSE ME I *LIVE* FOR YOUR BOOKTALKS!!! STUPID RU-vid AND THEIR STUPID STANDARDS Edit: Christine. I just finished A Heart So Fierce and Broken. I NEED A BOOKTALK😭😭😭
I've read 63 books in 2019 and I'm very proud. I finally got back to what I always liked doing - reading. I set a goal for 35 and never thought I would hit it, but I did and without any pressure. Also I really liked Spinning out, binged it over weekend and Rise of Skywalker too. And back in December I watched 4 weddings and 1 funeral thanks to your recommendation and omg it was so good, thank you for introducing me to it! I really enjoyed it :)
BEST WISHES FOR 2020!!!! LOVED this video!!! Can't wait for more book reviews from you! Each year I do 50 books, and already got 2 books finished, while I am reading quite a few books at the same time. I really enjoyed Rise of Skywalker as well, went to the movies four times in December (one was a season finale of a reality tv show in the cinemas called Expeditie Robinson, kind of like Survivor but with Dutch celebrities, second was Frozen II, third was Rise of Skywalker and fourth was well my youngest nephew's favorite show Neighbour and Neighbour Experiment A Lot (Buurman en Buurnman Experimenteren Erop Los) I went to Frozen II with my two young nieces and all cinema trips were loads of fun! Also finished You Season 2 (loved it!!) Just bought Night House!!!
In 2019, I read 58 books. But I can't say that they were all adult or young adult books. I have 2 little ones under the age of 3 and so I included the books that I read to them as well. So but if I only count the books that I read for me, that number would be 24. This year I'm aiming for 36 (3 books a month), but this is mainly because I have a giant TBR that I want to get though. Good luck on your reading this year. I say if your method works for you, don't change it. Happy Reading!
I've been in a massive reading slump the past few years, and I "only" read twenty-five books last year. On average, I used to easily read a hundred books a year, so I'm bummed. Hoping 2020 will be the end of my reading slump. Already read four and a half books so far! :)
I love book talks! I miss them soooo much. I wish there was one for Ninth House, because it's one of those books where it helps to talk about it to understand more stuff and let it sink in. I read 58 books in 2019! Honestly an achievement since I'm in college.
I've read around 230 books in the last year, but so many of them were manga volumes, out of which only around 10 of them were actual books. I kept my goal as 200 because I knew I could get through manga volumes quicker than actual books but somehow... I READ WAY TOO MANY MANGA LAST YEAR. and fanfiction too, rather than actual books. This year I'm gonna try and even out my reading material.
Don't feel bad about 27 books! I read maybe 18 books last year because college is a lot. I also wasn't in English classes that required full books. One thing I've learned is that book reading comes in waves. This year I've read more books than I read all of last year, and it's March.
"If you're under the age of 13 don't pick it up" Me, age 14: yessss Also, I think I read about 55 books last year which I was very dissatisfied with since I read about 67 the year before 😂
I read 20 books and 8 of them in about a month. It was really hard to read non-required books during college semesters, but since graduating, I’ve been able to read more. I never set a book goal since I read for fun, not as a competition. Instead, I make tbr lists as well as movie and TV show lists to get to whenever I’m craving something new
Also wanted to say that I love finishing a book and then finding a book talk of yours online, especially since I don’t have a lot of reader friends to discuss with. However, I just want you to be happy and will support whatever you do with this channel
I’m reading a Curse so Dark and Lonely right now! Glad you liked it because I feel like I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews and I was worried because I’m loving it atm 😌😌
Whenever you want to make a book talk or absolutely CANNOT help it because you have to talk to someone about it (*cough cough* SJ Mass), I will happily watch it 😊
I'm so sorry to hear why you don't do book talks anymore. I've been watching you for so many years now, like Vampire Academy book talks amount of years ago, and it's so sad to think that this era of your content is ending when I know we all have so many fond memories of your ranty, rambley, ravey book reviews. But, of course you have to do what's best for your mental health and channel. We'll think of this as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of one - and hope that the cyclical nature of the interests of the internet circles back again 😊❤❤
