I bought a 750 for the missus and I took such a fancy to it I ended up with 2 1100's as well. Had the 3 for 15 years. Lots of carefree miles. Very comfortable and the 1100's are quite quick and will surprise many. 60 hp will keep you from getting bored. The only maintenance has been a couple of tires and of course the constant cleaning. Lot of chrome on these bikes. The only reason I got the second 1100 was thought I might need parts. That has yet to be the case for anything. Great bike on many levels.
The Virago got me into cruising. I went on and got myself a Harley, but I will say, the Virago was more comfortable. Will have fond memories of that bike RSMF
Thanks for the Vid. Just bought an XV 750, and was a little disillusioned with it… as a learner I had a Honda Shadow VT 125, so it seemed a natural progression once I passed my test…however I found it a very difficult and different ride! It wasn't until I watched your Vid that I realised just what I was doing wrong, and now I'm finding it the joy I hoped it would be. Thanks again.
+Rick Martyn I'm glad I helped, as you probably know, I have moved onto a Harley Sportster. But I will have to say, the old Virago was probably a far smoother ride. I still have to ride my ZZR 1200 so I'm very lucky I can ride the Cruiser style and the sports tourer side RSMF
Prejudice stops us enjoying anything that's a little different from our normal choice. Cruisers are great comfy bikes which you can ride all day and still be able to walk afterwards. Try them all, sportsbikes, cruisers, scooters, mopeds, they all bring a smile to your face, just being on a bike, the freedom, the open air.. Wonderful bikes!
your gonna love it. virago is built for a smaller frame person. seat is around 26 inches high. I ride a 1998 1100. i'm 5 ft 6 in tall. it's just right for me.
The Virago is one of the bikes that you love or hate. I've got a '92/1100. 750's are awesome for ripping around the city and some freeway. There are endless amounts of parts for them. I put a drag bar and a gunslinger seat on mine, It looks like a harly 1200. The engines are bullet-proof. Great video.
Would have liked the 1200 engine probably but will not be altering it but will probably keep it standard, maybe some new pipes and that's all. Safe riding mate
I watched this video 6 months ago when I was deciding on getting an '84 Virago 700 as my first bike. It's been through a lot over the years, but with my love it's brought me many good times and taught me many things about maintenance and care. Thanks for turning me onto it!
Blokeio So glad you're enjoying your Virago, it is the bike that got me into the cruiser scene and for that I will always be grateful P.S must say, was very sad when I sold it RSMF
Hi from Aussie good overview of the 750. Had one for 4 years now a 94 750 great cruiser all round. Well balanced and now becoming retro cool. Reliable Harley copy with no worries about it being stolen as well. Kinda riding a miss daisy bike. Don't try to keep up with your Ducati mates though, unless your will is up to date, is a good suggestion as well. Corners hard when you have do and will hold in if you keep lots of faith up. No dramas with them overall other than the engine whine which can be fixed with sufficient Whisky. It's a 8 outa 10 bike.
This was my first cruiser type bike. I did move on to a Harley Sportster 1200, but I am now back on a sport tourer. But I still think one day I will have another cruiser RSMF
Great Video. I've had that bike for over ten years and love it. As a yank, this video is tough to watch. It makes my palms sweat because it feels as though you're riding on the wrong side of the road. I keep feeling as though a truck is going to come barreling around the corner and hit you head-in!!!
Do not own the Virago now. Had myself a 1200 Harley Sportster, which I've just sold. I have to say, the Virago was a good bike and got me into the cruising scene. As for riding on the other side of the road, when I'm driving in France, I do like driving/riding on the right. I think, in the long run, it's a lot safer RSMF
***** The Virago got me into the cruiser thing, but now I have a Harley Sportster. The poor old Virago had to go. Hopefully someone else is getting the pleasure out of it that I did RSMF
Those are good little bikes. Cheap to maintain too. My Harleys have a lot more pizz-azz but they are pricey to buy and to keep up with. I still have one of these, mine is a 94 but runs pretty good and I feel no shame stretching her legs. My Harleys will always be the charm though.
Have to agree, a good old bike. But I would say Harleys probably have it for me, had a Harley for a couple of years (Sportster 1200) then moved back to my favourite bikes, Sport Tourers. P.S. This is one old vlog you watched lol RSMF
Love my virago. Like I said before, perfect starter for a girl! Now that it's been months I'm ready for a bigger bike. Looking at tryin out a sport bike too!
Enjoyed the ride. ..thinking of getting a Cruiser as my Suzuki GSX 750f Slingshot gives me cramp in the legs quite often. ...and a Cruiser will slow me down also 😉😎
Hi Andy. Im an Ipswich boy myself and i have never riden a crusier before. My current is a Bandit 1200, but for the last year i have been having this mad hankering for a XV1100/750.Not sure if im going to like or hate. Hope its going well for you on it and thanks for your post. Hopefully see you on the roads whatever i maybe riding lol
I have a street fighter style one of these XV750 straight bars and centre pegs, perfect riding position and the handling is surprisingly good . Front single disc brake is not so good mind!
I will say, the brakes were not the best, but that bike got me into the cruiser scene for a couple of years. But now, I'm back on sports tourers (for now!) but never say never to having another cruiser RSMF
Think I'm gonna upgrade from my maxim 650 to a virago 750. My first bike was a Yamaha pw50 at 6 years old will stay with yamahas🤙 much love from Maricopa Arizona
Not riding a cruiser at this moment, but I will say you can never say never. The Virago 750 was a very comfortable bike to ride. The only thing I found with it was that the seat height was quite low and I'm quite tall. P.S. Love from Ipswich, Suffolk RSMF
I own two Viragos (a '96 750 and a '97 1100). Great little cruisers. I also own a 2010 BMW R1200RT (which gives me enough sportiness and the ability to eat up tons of miles). I did own a HD FXDL (low rider) for a while, but actually like the Virago better than the Dyna.
Larry Herzog Jr. I did love the viragos but the Harley came my way and like your good self I had to many bikes and one had to go but I have to say that was one good bike rsm
l own a 94 xv1100 and love it but recently had to semi retire her to weekend rides due to city roads getting pretty bad so got me a 2017 royal enfield himalayan and she very good for daily commute to work on the bad roads while getting 30km/l with 15l tank thats 450km between refills
I also have a xv750 and man you learn to properly counter steer and you can take curves so fast and almost or actually scrape peg. This bike can handle it! Just make sure you have a good front tire with plenty of side bevel.
Even though this vlog was a long while ago, I still think at times about the old Virago and how much I used to like riding it. Thanks for your comment RSMF
Suffolk Andy It’s the first bike I’ve owned and only been riding for 2 months. I only have $750 into it. I’m in love with thing lol. My friend just bought a 2007 Harley and I rode it last week and I have to say, it feels a little like a tin can and there is a lot of flex in the frame making the “death wobble” too easy to get into trouble with. I’d never buy one but as a nice considerate friend, I didn’t admit the flaws I felt in his bike. Over all. Japanese all the way for me. When I was younger I had a Honda and all my friends had American made vehicles and even way back then 20 years ago I could feel the difference and I was proud of what I was driving.
The only thing I can say about having a Harley Davidson is the one that I owned for two years, a 1200 Sportster. I will say about the bike, I had a love/hate relationship with it, probably would not purchase another if I went for a cruiser, I think it'll have to be Japanese. Just found the Harley a bit wanting and a bit small for somebody my size RSMF
+kevin burns Haven't got the old Virago now, went over to the dark side and purchased a Harley Sportster. Not sure if I like it and I've had it for a year now. I have a love/hate relationship with the bike. Thank you for your comment RSMF
I found the seating position a little bit low, but then again, I am 6'2". Would recommend as an entry bike to the cruising scene, it's second to none, but I would go for the bigger engine version of that model. Now on a Harley Sportster. Have to say, not a lot in the two, probably the Virago is a bit more comfortable - hope that helps RSMF
Well as an experience rider I expected you to say for something bigger, but just coming into the scene I manged to find a Virago 700 for about $1000.00 US. I'd figrued it be the perfect bike for my needs. I never really liked sports bikes, and anything that says "Harley" on it skyrockets the price....yeah know what I mean?
Really interesting to watch I am in the same position at the moment I want one but don't know why having never had this style maybe thats it not sure wether to get an 1100 or 750
Its a nice bike it got me in to this style of bike the 750 or 1100 are the best way to go but now im back on a bmwk1200s but not saying i have given up on a cruiser in the future rsm
You must have the import document and also you have to get the bike MOTd before you can register it. Bit of a pain. Registration is about £60, once that's done, you have to get new plates. Job's a good'un. Hope that helps :) RSMF
+kevin burns Not so much with the Sportster, but do find it a bit harsh on the suspension but a lot of my problems was purchasing a dud battery that caused me lots of problems over last summer. Not being a natural cruiser rider, still in a funny way not making the transition from sports bike to cruiser lol RSMF
hi i would like your advice. For many years i have ridden a scooter with my legs stretched out and in a week or so im buying a bike to learn on and take my test. i have been told a vfr750 is really comfy and great for touring which is why im doing the test in the first place. because of my style i really wanted a chopper i have been advised it would be very hard to pass a test on. Im liking the look of cruisers it looks like its comfy and your legs are stretched out. I enjoy the drive not the speed so do you think this would be a ideal bike? thanks
I have found that cruisers are very comfortable and also very manoeuvrable. I can help you with the test question as it's been 41 years since I took mine but I know you'll love the feel of the cruiser RSMF
Welcome to the beginner world of cruzers: Mine looks just like it, same color, only mine is a 700 Magna and mine has 25000, when I bought it and it is an 87 model and only 16000, were sold in America. I will sell it for $2500. write to Gary at GaryLordsWay@aol.com. I have Highway pegs on mine too. Carbs rebuilt and synked as well as new highway tires. That is one of the things I will have to do, is to change the shocks on it to more progressive ones to some the ride up on it, to stiff riding right now. Unless your a big man of over 200 lbs. Then it might be ok you them.
The Virago is a nice bike, got me into the cruiser scene. Went on to get a Harley Sportster, but I have to say, still preferred the Virago over the Harley. Haven't got a cruiser at the moment, on a sports tourer, but I will say I will not rule out a cruiser in the future. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated RSMF
