This video shows the very first spring woodland flowers to emerge in Ticino, Swizterland. I find these flowers on a trail that goes from the village of Melano, to the impressive and powerful waterfall "Cascata di Botto" that actually emerges from a hole in a rock and is fed by two underground lakes. As I ascend the mountain I have views over beautiful Lugano Lake. A hepatica: Hepatica nobilis and a primrose: Primula vulgaris are the very first flowers to emerge on the slopes of Monte Generoso in the southern Swiss pre-alps bordering Italy and the Lombardy plain. These two flowers are especially beautiful in the grey/brown spring landscape and have fascinating historical and medicinal backgrounds. These plants help explain "the Doctrine of Signatures" a disproved pseudoscience that states that herbs that have parts that look like body parts have medicinal powers to heal that body part.
