Good episode Frank! Saw a big one just outside the last time we visited. They used to be common in the Watchung reservation years ago before they all seemed to die out. It was good to see the big one out and about looking strong and healthy.
Maybe because ive seem so many in my lifetime at night and they just don't hop away....they don't seem afraid of me. They let me pick them up without struggling. I also think they're cute!
Hi Frank. From Pennsylvania buddy Jeff. I love my favorite teacher's videos. I have 1 .more week of no lifting. I've been sitting since July 19. We are headed to our Maine cabin August 10th. . As soon as I come home I'll stack my firewood. And im building a small water pool under my trees for the tree frogs and my toes. They are very awsome little critters. And something else. The humming birds love their wildflowers patch. I have more of them than I've ever had. 😊😊😊 God bless Frank.
@@natureatyourdoor toadspotting got cancelled because I got spooked by a buck deer in our back acres challenging me or another buck, which in turn set off a pack of coyotes howling a lot closer than I was expecting, and I decided to get the dogs inside and call it a night. Fun times in deep rural central Indiana Edit: (Putnam county)
While cutting the grass at the lake property, I came across a very fat American toad near the deck. I wanted to relocate him to continue cutting. It was by pure luck that I picked him up with his south end pointing away from me because shortly after I lifted him, he broke loose with a solid stream of Vitamin P (another defensive mechanism?). I couldn't stop laughing while moving him over to a pond.
I find them near my outdoor water supply. I have a pic of a baby next to a dime (for scale). He was smaller than the dime. I also get tree frogs too but not the noisy matting boys - they can be very annoying when in season!
Hi Frank awsome. I have a very large one that has been around several years. Question how long do they live. ..mine has been around at least 5 years. God bless your Pennsylvania buddy Jeff 😊😊😊
What are all the very small frogs or toads that swarm my yard each spring. 100s of the little critters. Central Virginia about 15 mile from the Peaks of Otter.
??? Could be many different species...spring peepers in the spring of course...wood frogs and tree frogs will lay hundreds of eggs in one place...if you have a small pond nearby they may disperse from there...do you have a water source near by?
I’m in northern Ohio, when I was a kid in the 60’s we had tons of toads, I haven’t t seen one years though. Makes me sad, have we obliterated toads too?
Don’t worry, the toads are fine! They may have gone away in your area, but I see them all the time. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for many other amphibians, which are declining rapidly
