I got a fxdx dynaglide with a thunder header exhaust too my dad passed it down to me when he died. It’s getting picked up tomorrow to be fixed. It’s been awhile since I had it running and was able to ride. It took a lot of work and hustle for me to obtain the means to fix it and I’m fucking stoked. I miss that sound so bad. Can’t wait to get back on it and feel that freedom again.
When I see that fabric on exhaust pipes, I dont think it's very functional... it doesn't allow for heat to escape the pipes... Could be doing bad things to the heads... dunno... I got screaming eagle pipes on my Tsport, also sound gr8... But looks good man🤙
It’s actually very functional. The entire purpose of header wrap is to keep the heat inside the pipes. This helps keep the exhaust flow velocity higher, which helps the engine to breathe at higher rpm where the headers are most effective. That said, there’s also a bad drawback to header wrap. Depending on the particular material that they are made of, they tend to absorb moisture and hold it against the header when cold, leading to rust forming faster. I used it on an old Honda I had and the new pipes rusted out in about 3 years. Since then, I’ve only used it on my drag bike and a car that I race regularly that I experiment with header design on. I don’t see much benefit to using it on a street ridden bike except maybe for the look and that is a personal perspective thing. Honestly, some form of ceramic coating will do the same thing for heat retention and would be a better idea since the pipes will last far longer. It is a bit more expensive though.
Yep , it has that cool THUNDER HEADER sound alright but at a cost of $1750 for a chrome header is just too much when you can get a set of 2 into 2 Drag pipes for UNDER a hundred ! And everybody knows how beautiful drag pipes sound . Of course you have to know how to tune your bike for drag pipes .
@@mr.b3168 Well here is the warranty disclaimer from Bassani, you can argue with their engineers about "fake news": Bassani Motorcycle Exhaust Warranty Bassani warrants it's Motorcycle products to be free from Manufacturer defects from date of purchase for a period of 1 year only, proof of purchase mandatory. Bassani Motorcycle products are covered under no other warranty, expressed or implied as to merchantability or fitness for a particular use other than mentioned herein. Nickel (Industrial/Polished Chrome) finish on Motorcycle exhaust is warranted until installation and use of product, at which time it is considered to have a limited resistance to rusting, discoloration and peeling. High temperature ceramic coating on Motorcycle exhaust is warranted for 90 days from date of original purchase, proof provided. Superficial surface rusting of header coating, especially between tubes, is considered normal and therefore not warranted as a defect in materials and workmanship. Wrapping of Pipe with Heat Tape may adversely affect the pipe & WILL VOID warranty! The high exhaust temperatures found in engines exceeds the capabilities of the chrome plating to handle the heat without discoloration. Bassani does not guarantee the pipes against discoloration or blueing.
