I don't any more, but I had a 400 whp Trailblazer SS. It had a 4k stall converter, so I got horrible gas mileage, but it was a rocket of the lights. One night, some crew decided they needed it mare than I did. I say crew because there was no broken glass on the street an the Onstar module was thrown in a bush in front of my house.

It’s really nice to see one of you online RU-vid mechanics that advocate for the community to take the time to actually troubleshoot the issues your having with the vehicle instead of just Throwing parts at it Cause then when you do get it running you have no idea what fixed it!! It is the absolute WORST way to try and work thru an issue and fix the problem and not to mention that it could get extremely expensive, extremely quick!! How would you like it if you took your car to the shop for repair and they just started changing everything in the ignition system and then tried starting It but still have The same issue so you change a bunch of the fuel system parts and try starting it with no luck and on and on. If it’s in the shop, then you just spent thousands on replacement parts that you quite possibly didn’t need at all and you can not return electrical or fuel related parts once installed. Learn how to troubleshoot folks!! Your wallet is gonna thank you so much for doing so!!!!

For many people the cost of repair, rental car, towing, lost wages etc can be more than the cost of getting a newer car with a warranty on a payment for $200-300/month. And obviously most people don't work on their own cars whether its due to lack of knowledge/tools/time/ space to do it etc

I bought a Q45 a few years back for $400 W/ 160K miles from an auction. It was donated to Kars for Kids, I was very skeptical when buying it but they said it ran and drove, all it needed was some decent TLC because it was neglected and abandoned just like this. I had looked into the history and found out it was a 1 owner car for most of its life, then its final few years it went to someone else and literally sat for years. Not sure where the negligence started, I suspect with the second owner, (more on that later), but when I got it, the rotors were BADLY grooved, all 4 replaced, the car had wheel locks and I think they just gave up and never replaced the rotors because they didn't have the lock, needed 2 front calipers(they were stuck), a windshield (hail), small hail dings(easy fix), alternator (died on the highway, in the middle of downtown, uphill so I couldn't change lanes, at 5pm rush hour from the auctionhouse, very fun), AC recharge, power steering was clogged, tire balance, alignment, etc. Literally just lack of maintience stuff that I fixed really fast. Car shined up VERY easily and became a super reliable car. The tires were basically brand new, dated back to right around before the car was sold. I also looked back into the maint history and found out it was taken care of pretty decently by the original owner, which is why I think it was the second owner who neglected it, tons of service going up to when he sold it. It happens though, as a commenter said, $200-$300/month is worth it to never have to maintain a car if you don't know anything about cars. More steals for us though.

Tip for next time: After getting the motor running and idling, hold the brake and shift into each gear without moving for about 5 second apiece. This will get fluid back into all the areas of the transmission and excersize all the valves before you start driving it.

Great job Alex. You reminded me when I cleaned my car injectors beside the road once. All I used was a syringe and a carb cleaner. The injector fit inside the plunger side of syringe and the nozzle of the carb cleaner on the other side. With a connector to the battary, I would press the carb cleaner and frantically connect and disconnect the injector to cycle it. It worked just fine in the situation I was in. Great work on the channel BTW. Been here from the black C43. I can't wait to see it grow.

I purchased this same 1998 Jeep in black in 2004 from a salesman with 114,000 miles. I owned it until 2009 and it still ran perfectly with 175,000 miles. Same engine, transmission, and transfer case. It had a few bubbles in the paint starting and the interior was still in very good to excellent condition. This vehicle towed my 18 foot enclosed trailer like it wasn't there through the mountains in Maine containing two snowmobiles. The only downside was it liked to drink premium fuel.

Also check the valley pan gasket down the intake. Many if not all of the 5.9s blow the gasket and suck in engine oil slowly, fouling the plugs and causing poor running conditions, knock, etc. Beyond that, they are also prone to some timing chain stretch.

As an old timer I'm going to give you some learned advice. You already know that Octane is the resistance to ignition. When you have ancient fuel the Octane is off the charts. It doesn't want to burn at all. With that said, when you are blending the old fuel in the tank USE 87 OCTANE FUEL. It ignites much easier than 93 and is exactly what you want. Plus the usual additives. Couple few bottles of techron, Heet, and a half gallon of Mystery Oil. Will usually clean it out in a few hundred miles.

These 5.9 Jeeps are a rare find these days. Thanks for saving this one from that great big junk yard in the sky.

Alex, Your neighbor possess the same magic as my daughter. If I have a problem with my computer I have her opperate it and the problem vanishes. It's quite eerie. You try everything you know and she sits down, and alls right! NO explanation.

Cool, loved this. We had that jeep (same year and color) with the smaller V8. Great reliable car.
