That fiberglass all over the engine bay almost looks like they put it there before putting it in storage to prevent rodent infestation. It might heave been treated with something that mice hate or repels them. It just didn't look like typical mice/rat activity. it would have been infested with feces and other found debris. Alex, after putting all of the work/modified motor bracket, etc. (document your work, btw). IF you sell back to the CEO, have a contract drawn up that if the company restarts (now there's a greater need for 100 mpg delivery vans especially with $4/gallon gas, if they still have the technical drawings to recreate the molds for the unibody, they're 80% from restarting. Now the van can be updated to use modern charging tech and note... GM parts bins. That means that you can theoretically add the missing components such as wipers, rear door handles, windows and a/c. That would make the concept vehicle usable and close to ready to be reintroduced. It's more important now, and get in for an equity share in any new company ($1500 plus some sweat equity/components and you may get significant benefits if the van goes into production).

Hi Alex. Honestly, at first I was thinking as much as I love this channel, 1 hour watching a hybrid van? Well, just a few minutes in and I was totally hooked and after an hour, here I am wanting more!😊 You're not only a true car guy, you're a great story teller. The turbo Trans Am brought me here many, many years ago and I've been a fan ever since. Fantastic video with all the twists n turns and unsolved mysteries. The interview with Amy at the end was icing on the cake.👌 So many years ago, she and the team worked on that Bright Idea and you can still see and hear the passion that they all shared. To be able to communicate with those people now is truly invaluable. The Space Van is truly 1 of 1 and they can all rest assured knowing it is in competent hands. All the best with this project, Alex! Enjoy your weekend and I'll see you on the next episode.

It's crazy to think this company could have been doing the van stuff alongside the car stuff Tesla was doing. How different our world might be now if they had gotten the funding and not the other company that failed anyway. I could definitely see them transitioning to Fully Electric once the battery tech improved. I look forward to seeing the team behind this build in a future video where you drive the van out to meet them. A Road Trip sounds like fun. Definitely fix the AC first though. You're going to need that.

What a really interesting project and it so nice to hear from the people that were involved in the building of the van. It must so hard to invest so much time, money and effort to then have it shut down like it was. I look forward to seeing you get it all working and taking it around for the original team to see.

I found it interesting the way the wooden fence was made. (Bit heavy and prone to rot at the bottom!) We use square gal posts 65 X 65mm X 2400mm spaced at 2.00 mtrs (500 mm cemented in ground.) 3 X angle cleats 180 X50 mm welded on each pole, 1X150mm up from ground, one 150mm down from top and one in the centre. Three wooden rails (45mm X 70mm) are bolted onto the supporting cleats with cup headed screws. more details on request.

49:01 Imagine being among 65 employees that 62 of them are as excited as Amy is right here. This is why working for start up companies is the best work experience you can have. Everyone is fully energized to do their job and everyone appreciates their fellow colleagues for the input and ideas they come up with. I was lucky enough to tap in to this energy flow in numerous companies during my career in medical diagnostic and therapy solutions. I cannot recommend this path enough. I would trade a secure job for an interesting prospect in a heartbeat. The energy level is addictive and the payoff can be fantastic even if only in experience. I'm retired now (early) but I do miss that desire to collaborate at such an intense level.

@Scott Barlett Yes,when all the hard work reveals a working model, it's a feeling like no other. I can only imagine how Apple's engineers felt seeing Steve Jobs demonstrate the touchscreen to the world or how thousands of James Webb telescope engineers and scientists felt when they saw the first images from its camera's.

@@Godscountry2732 "I can only imagine how Apple's engineers felt seeing Steve Jobs demonstrate Apple's first attempt at a cell phone that just happened to have a touch screen to the world in 2007 " I amended that for you because touch screens where invented in 1965 by Eric Arthur Johnson. The first touch screen phone was also the first smart phone and that was the IBM Simon Personal Communicator released in 1994, 13 years before Apple. Apple engineers should still be proud of the iPhone though.

I've literally never worked for any job over the last 4 and a bit decades where even a single employee from the lady who came in once a week to clean toilets all the way up to the CEO viewed it as anything more than a job they hated but did just to earn a paycheck. I can't even imagine what it would be like to work in a place where even a small fraction of the workforce was enthusiastic about the job.

Imagine that's what you built?? could've just converted an actual dodge chassis. It already had most the components. Minus, lights, ac, power anything!! That's why the engineer didn't call back.. it's a POS. I loved the passion in the video but after thinking on it...that car was a money grab. The CEO doesn't want it, he's probably under lawsuit, and covering his backside. I'd get that thing out of my shop before it burns down

Many concept cars get crushed. I remember the 1st Scion car at the NY Car Show. We were told to only touch the car when moving it in very specific spots. They were terrified of it getting damaged. Every single time we had to move it, it took like 8 people. 5-6 people to push and another couple of people to watch for problems. When we finally got it on the stand, It was like, I hope we never have to do that again. (it was a show car only and didn't move on its own)

Ah, the startup bang was probably like a late 2000's Kawa ZX-6R, where the starter motor relay just literally goes "brrrrr", not connecting like it should, when the battery does not have enough power to make things work properly.

Sweet van, never had heard of it before. But the carbon fiber is gorgeous. So sad, what a shame they didn’t get the grant. They could’ve really been neck and neck with Tesla but for the fleet side. And that may also be the reason why they didn’t get any funding. Hopefully everyone that worked for Bright can be reunited behind this series of vids and actually get to see it drive again. 😊

I love seeing prototype videos as there is always interesting things to be found. I used to work for a large Japanese camera/printer/copier company, and when I would visit some of the larger corporate offices I would see many prototype and preproduction versions of the machines being used by the employees, likely there to iron out bugs and machine issues before they went to market. I find it fascinating seeing and using beta versions of mass produced equipment. I look forward to part 2 of this!
