Thanks for sharing Barry. It has be a tough year for a lot of us. What impressed me was your patience with the fish. Four minutes from bobber down to fish in the net. Allowing fish to run out and not tighten the drag is so important. Someday I will figure that out. :)
Congratulations, great day, 1st fish of the year, last fish of your 40's, and a Birthday fish too! And what a beauty! Terrific job in that clear fast water, and flawless camera work! That was awesome!
Hey Barry. What a birthday present that steelhead was for you. Beautiful water too. I am still looking for my first of 2023. I am sure it will come soon. I am looking to getting out again next week. I hope you had a fantastic birthday. You are getting closer to qualifying for your senior citizen discounts😁. I am looking forward to your 2023 winter steelhead videos. Be safe out there.
Good to hear from you Corby! And yes, what a birthday present! A perfect steelhead on the most perfect steelhead river. Can you believe that water clarity? No wonder she was hiding under the limbs. Good luck to you this season! 🎣
Congrats on the first fish of the year! And happy belated bday! I caught my first of the year on the 25th. I’ve been eyeing those Stryker rods 👀. How do you like them so far? I’m hoping they’re at the sportsman show and have some on sale that I can pick up.
Thanks Mario! So far so good with the Strykers, I’ve landed 4 so far with them, they are definitely moderate leaning soft action, they seem to flex all the way to the handle. Hopefully you can see in the next video where I have a second camera running. They have excellent components, alps guides and reel seat and CFX handles. I’ll do a full review pretty soon. I do believe they will be at the sportsman shows.
When your rods are broken down, what's the piece you're pulling off when you pull them out of your vehicle to assemble them? Looks like maybe something to keep each rod piece secure when broken down? I break my long crappie rods down, looking for something to secure them better. The fight of Steelheads looks like a blast. Beautiful fish. Happy belated birthday. My 50th was January 25th.
Wow! Our birthdays are 5 days apart! Those are fishing butlers. I have links in the description to my gear. If you shop around, you can get hem for $3-$4 a set of 2. I have about 50 sets! 😁
They are well made rods with quality components, however I’ve switched back to G.Loomis E6X rods. I couldn’t get used to the composite handles and that rod model was a little too soft of action for me. It would make an excellent side drifting or jig rod, but I like a faster action for beads, which has become my top producing technique.
The videos in December? Those were from footage I saved from the 2022 season, mostly March 2022, which was explained along the way. I save footage from the tail end of the season to share at the beginning of the next season.
I can see from the angle why you’d think that, but I think it was wild. This system does not have a hatchery program and a stray would have to be way off course.
