I know this is late but? Malan and stoneman both averaged under 30 and didn’t really have time on their side and Overton is a far inferior bowler to the like of archer, wood, broad, Anderson etc
well to be fair there was no swing and the pitch was like a road in the first session and a half so it was a good toss to win, but Australia got back into it later on and considering the lack of swing 4/196 is pretty even
Well they retained it. If not for the dumb decision by Tim Paine to bowl first in the final match, they'd have made history by winning it in England for the first time since 2001.
I think that Australia is slightly ahead. I think they probably got an extra wicket to tip that balance in there favour but not hugely. If either Vince or Stoneman could of made a century then it would of easily be with England. 4 wickets doesn't look like a tonne but with a dryer day 2 pitch I think the pace attack can do a lot more than today so as long as they kept England to a slow run rate which they did, then I would say 4 wickets is enough. Speaking of which, Hazlewood was not bowling well though which was really worrying. I was hearing a lot of parallels between him and Mcgrath and sure when he is firing maybe he can get close, but it was a very inconsistent line and length this morning and quite expensive compared to his compatriots, Vince and Stoneman were picking off those deliveries that became a fraction full. He is Australia's front line bowler he needs to step up. I get that feeling Cook will retire during this series, so many players that lose the captainship seem to fall by the wayside, The mental burden is exhausting. And he has been dismissed so many times by that ball that just nips across him and just edges it to the slips. England should demand more from him because they are used to seeing better. Praying he can turn it around 2nd innings but I have my doubts.

Mitchell SUTCLIFFE This needs to stop he is the only keeper who has a decent record in test. He has a ton. He is better than wade with the gloves and the chance he dropped is very difficult as it jumped up off the pitch and then hit the seam on the bat making it even harder. Those catches include a lot of luck as they have no time to Adjust. Just give him a test to prove himself

Good but boring tactics by England. Tire the Aussies bowlers out. Long series. They aren't expecting to win here. So a draw is as good as it gets. It also forces the Aussie batsmen to have to be more aggressive when they bat, if they want the win, which could force more errors.
