The creator of Ace Attorney has another classic, beloved adventure game which is getting a new remaster, and I got to play it early. So how'd the port turn out? Let me tell you a bit about it.

devil survivor was a megami tensei tactical rpg back on the ds and honestly is close to my favourite game of all time, and i'd love to see atlus remaster or at the very least port it to modern consoles, since it and its sequel are currently stranded on the ds and 3ds. genuinely amazing game with a great (though small) soundtrack, i'd recommend it if you enjoy megami tensei at all

I remember when I first discovered Ghost Trick. I was going to just play a few hours, but I wound up binging the whole thing in one night, finishing it in the early morning. I was dog tired the next day, but it was a weekend, so it all worked out.

I had the original ds version and i always hoped it'd get ported. when TWEWY (The World Ends With You) got ported to sswitch, i was eagerly hoping Ghost Trick would too. I'm super happy to see these cult classics getting ported to more accesible hardware so more people can check these out! 💘

I picked Ghost Trick up myself on IoS when it first came out there, and boy am I glad I did. As somebody who loved the Ace Attorney trilogy, this was right up my alley, and has a unique feel I've yet to see in another game. Looking forward to my friends being able to experience it for the first time!

Ghost trick’s genuinely my FAVORITE puzzle game *and* visual novel, I played it on iOS and finished it earlier this year and it’d skyrocketed to one of my favorite games of all time, I can’t recommend it enough

This is one of my most replayed ds games. Im still so thrilled to see it get a second lease on life bc its such a fun tightly built game that rather famously didnt sell as well as it couldve and id love to see folks appreciating it more. Ace attorney and puzzle game fans are likely to love it.

I adore this game. Easily one of my favorite novel style games ever. The full story just sticks with you and is half a story you just WISH you could experience without the memory of the first completion again. Of course, there is stuff you can pick up on along the story if you are familiar with the twists and turns, a couple oddities that, when contextualized, are charming, cute, funny, a variety of things.

Hey Nezumi, just came back to say I finished playing Ghost Trick last night and it was sooo amazing, I bought it because of this video and it was absolutely worth it, the puzzles were a bit too hard for me but even so the story was way too amazing and I cried at an adorable cartoon dog and I don't even care. Everyone should play this game!!

It's a mid sized game if it helps you planning out when you have some free time c:. I used to play it on the bus 30 mins to 45 mins at a time. Very enjoyable way to pass time.

GT is by far one of my favorite games and I am so glad it's getting a revival. So many games get tossed away and forgotten, but more people should definitely give this game a shot, even if they aren't puzzle game enthusiasts. The characters, plot, music, mystery all come together so well.

1:37 - They didn't have to do anything for the controls here. The DS version already let you play it with just the D-pad & buttons. (Or a mix of buttons and touch screen, depending on how you were holding the system.)

I have the original DS version and this game is a lot of fun. I'm going to hold off on the Remaster for the 6 months or so it takes Capcom to patch out Denuvo on the Steam version, though.

Original Ghost Trick had the most late 2010's aesthetic announcement trailer ever. No seriously, if you showed that stuff to a marketing manager in 2019 you would be hired on the spot. GT was a fantastic game YET for whatever reason Capcom did almost 0 marketing for this game and considered it a flop. Seriously, they had a potential instant hit with a plot written by AA 1-3 writer, fluid animations, great puzzles, fantastic music, and an awesome trailer (look up GT announcement trailer) and for whatever reason they decided to not advertise it in every possible way??? And it was *after* Layton games and 999 became hits so there was no reason to think that a good puzzle game on DS would fail. I don't think I will ever understand how decision-makers in Capcom operate.

No need to worry, the video is pretty much spoiler free. Capcom asked me not to discuss story details in the impressions video beyond Chapter 5 (of 18).

I remember magazines at the time this first came out were very “meh” about Ghost Trick. Then again they said the same about every Ace Attorney from 3 onwards. They really didn’t like these games

I think game journalists outside of Japan were especially somewhat dismissive of VN's or VN adjacent adventure games back then. I remember IGN's original review insisting there were cultural elements of Ghost Trick (which were basically just their way of referring to some of the wacky anime humor) that could not possibly be understood or appreciated by a "mainstream audience". Nowadays, thankfully, I think this kind of attitude has started to largely disappear.

I did have some problems with the remaster over the original: it's harder to go to certain cores if there's an NPC with a core in the way - which isn't a problem with a touch screen since you can go around, but that becomes a lot more cumbersome if you are using a controller; there are certain objects that you have no idea of knowing that/how you should use because you cannot see them anymore (for example, you're supposed to swap a bullet with a yarn hat in one of the levels, but the hat must be hanging instead of collapsed on itself because it has to have the same shape as the bullet; I did not have a way of knowing what the shape of the bullet was in the remaster, but in the DS version you could see it was a half-moon shape instead of an elongated shape like I'd expect a bullet to be)

Had this game on DS and loved it to pieces. It may not be revolutionary these days, but the art, music and designs are so good and so very... Shu. Glad to see this game is reviewing well.

Yep! It has a remastered soundtrack too. You can switch between them in the options menu.
