Welcome back to Switzerland - we have arrived in Zurich with a goal in mind - check out the rumours to see if Switzerland really is as expensive as they say! Next stop renting a car and heading out - where should we go?
Basel 🙌🏻 Not many vloggers come here as it’s not in the mountains. But still beautiful and close to France and Germany. Also Lucerne and Zug are beautiful. If you can go on a mountain coaster, they are super fun!
I was smiling the entire video. The part Jess gets the coin and Hunter went flying in those chairs, just hilarious!!! Thank you for brightening up our days, what a wonderful blog
I am from Zurich, grew up in Zurich and still live here. I love seeing you guys really enjoying the city to the fullest. It is so nice to watch the movie as i know all the places you have visited in this video. Sadly i didn't bump into you guys in Zurich... enjoy Switzerland - it is so worth it. Hug
I LOVED this one - the pace of it, everything you guys did in Zurich. We plan to travel there next year with our little one so this was great to watch. Also, seeing how happy little Hunter is just makes me smile so much! I hope you do more like these!
8:54 I had to smile when you described the location of your AirBnb as "outside the town". Because your AirBnb was still right in the city and in a very popular part of town. It's a shame you didn't discover the river baths, nice bars or the industrial quarter right next to your Airbnb, that would have been a bit more authentic than the very touristy old town, where practically no people live anymore. But nevertheless: I really enjoyed watching your video.
I remember being SHOOK to my core at the prices! My husband and I ended up buying ice cream at a grocery store and eating it in a park at Zurich for lunch because that’s all we could afford. But those experiences made special memories. I can’t wait to watch your Switzerland series!
Don't worry about it, you had the perfect Swiss experience. Because that's how the locals do it too... Because opposite to popular belief, it's still very, very pricey for normal people, even on local salaries. It can be deceiving because there really are a lot of high-earning/rich people in Zürich, but that's somewhat constrained to a core zone which obv includes all the touristy/popular areas, but your normal everyday citizen has to be just as careful with spending as everyone else really, and no, you won't find construction workers living anywhere near the places you saw in the video.
I was watching this at my mom's house and she passed by and said "what movie are you watching and I told her it was my favorite travel vloggers and this is youtube. She could NOT believe it, she said but it looks so polished and I'm listening to all sorts of interesting dialogue". I told her Stephen is just extremely good at what he does and they have a lot of experience.
Can’t wait to watch the video you guys always make me happy and cheer me up Thankyou for always being there for me when I’m sad have a lovely rest of your week xxx ! ❤️😘😍🥰
Flying to Switzerland tomorrow from Austin Texas. Watching this video made me super happy. Having grown up in Zurich I really miss living there. I’m glad you enjoyed it
Regarding the free water fountains: any fountain without a label or warning can be considered safe to drink. By law, only non-potable water fountains have to be labelled. This is in contrast to other countries where potable water is explicitly labelled as such
Another fab post. Loved the delight when Hunter saw merry go round and the giggle on the chain swing that went faster than Jess thought. You guys are giving so much delight to your followers. I look forward to every post.
Travelled a lot in my life, live in Zurich since 4 years. When you earn a salary here, this is by far one of the most liveable cities in the world. I love it here and want to raise my family here!
@@spudwave3661 I am living in Geneva, I would say yes it is expensive, but the salary also matches, and just normal office job you can live decent life. This is contrast of some other expensive cities such as London, New York where if you want keep the same life quality with the same job is not possible...yet the life is also much quieter 😅 and less dynamic, depends on your taste
I totally agree with you, I am living in Geneva, it's expensive but life quality is also high which is not the case in many other expensive cities such as London, New York, Paris...(they are actually a bit cheaper comparing to Geneva, Zurich)
Welcome to Zurich! I'm living here now for 36years and can't imagine go back to my country. It's expensive yes but if you speak german (hard to learn) you can easily find a job to earn enough to live here. Enjoy Switzerland!
We’re living in Zurich with two kids. Big smile on my face when I saw Hinter enjoyed the same playgrounds and activities I’ve just visited with my boys. There’s so much more to discover. Swimming elephants, beautiful hikes trough ravines in the city area, two cable railways. It’s a wonderful place to raise children here…
I have been in Zurich already twice and it is one of my favorite places in the world! I do recommend a place that you haven't been, Hiltl, which is an oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Their weekend buffet is to die for!
Any vlog is a good vlog! I am from Norway and is up there with Switzerland when it comes to how expencive everything are. It is strange for me to travel to Switzerland because it even more pricy that Norway. Keep up the good work.
I really look forward to each new video little Hunter is always happy as are her mum and dad always smiling enjoying your wonderful life can’t wait until the next video love you all
I used to follow other people on you tube. Unless I was rich beyond imagination or an elite athlete I couldn’t even begin to try and recreate their stuff. That is what I appreciate you all so much. It feels accessible for the regular person. Great tips and recommendations. Thank you for this great content. Love watching you!
Commented elsewhere (under your inquiry about where to go) but in Switzerland, Camping Jungfrau! And outside: Denmark. I replied there, too, on our most recent trip to Billund and where we stayed. Loving the videos!
I love the family travels! This is so inspiring to me as a mom of 2 who doesn’t want to give up the adventures❤️ never stop! We love watching y’all’s adventures!
What a beautiful traveling with family!! Your daughter is so cute!! And beautiful Switzerland!! perfect!! Thank you for sharing this my new friend!!😍😃👍👍
When we were in Zurich a few years ago we found that prices for meals were similar to the US because in the US we add a 20% tip when eating out. We remember watching your 2015 Zurick video before our trip in 2017. If I remember, one of your sisters was with you on your 2015 Zurich trip!
i real like this take on a vlog! Its actually really useful and informative for the average person compared to some of your other higher price experiences
Switzerland is just breathtakingly beautiful! Absolutely charming. The perfect blend of beautiful architecture, rich history & culture, great food and stunning scenery. It's really no wonder that it's so expensive... wages are higher. I mean, who would ever want to leave?
About 10% of Swiss live abroad actually. That's quite a lot for a rich, developed country that's not at war. Most are in neighbouring countries however (mostly with foreign spouses) but still, many people do move abroad at least for some time. While it's hard to "level up" so to speak, the social environment can be quite constricting. There's a lot of rules, social norms, regulation, customs (established ways of doing things) and so forth, and the spontaneity and joy can be lacking at times. This is predominantly an economic (money) machine and needs to run perfectly at all times, so you better be a functional cog (esp. in Zürich). That's not for everyone. Personally (being Swiss, and coincidentally living right outside of Zürich), I see our country as the perfect middle between the US and Japan with all its (dis-)advantages.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 constricting social environment? If you mean people are following the rules I agree with you, but in Switzerland I saw some of the most vibrant cities with lots of young people (I live in Lausanne and have friends in Basel and Zurich). In general I feel there's a lot of freedom here, it's a wonderful place where to live. I bet most of the swiss living abroad are retired people that want to stay in a much cheaper country, even with the minimum salary you are one of the richest in Italy or France
@@mysterioanonymous3206 having the financial opportunities to move abroad for a period of time is one of the best ways to get to know yourself a lot better and experience different cultures. Most people sooner or later come back to Switzerland tho
We live in Branson, MO, a tourist town here in the US. The prices here are quite high so the prices there don't seem that expensive to me. When Jess said how much you spent at the store I nearly fell out of my chair! That would have cost way more where we live! Coffee wasn't that far off on price either. We don't like Starbucks coffee so we had to look up our prices. It was only about $1 or so more. The coffee you found at the shop is pretty much what we pay here. I'm so LOVING your videos! They are so different than everyone else's! And I've watched 100's of videos on CH to prepare for vacation and hopefully retirement! Keep up the good work!
I absolutely love this vlog. Hunter is the cutest little traveller. Zürich is not my favourite Swiss town, but I have to admit, its old town and is very pretty. Badis are awesome to cool down in the summer-time. From the places I would recommend you to visit in Switzerland. If you’re still in Zürich, Zürich has amazing zoo. A lot of animals to see, cool playgrounds. My boy loves it. Outside Zürich, I suggest you to visit Bannalp, a place in the Swiss Alps close to Engelberg with wonderful lake. They have darf trail. It’s not the best, but will keep Hunter entertained and scenery is well worth it. Sattel-Hochstuckli is awesome to visit with kids. Bouncy castles, hanging bridge and really cool goat trail where you can learn about the goats and at the end you can pet them and enjoy goat-milk ice-cream. Another gorgeous Alpine lakes with great playgrounds are at Melchsee-Frutt & at Trübsee above Engelberg. Those to are easy accessible with stroller. Dwarf’s trail in Hasliberg is amazing too. My boy absolutely loved all the cool dwarf-related stations and the views over Alps are amazing. Another great trail for kids there is Marble run.
Also, Tierpark in Goldau where you can see animals distinctive fot Europe and pet the sika deers & mouflon is great to visit with kids. If you’re visiting Lucerne and want to try some delicious Swiss chocolate I highly suggest Aeschbach chocolatier. If you visit during the week, you can see the production line. There are other great chocolate experiences too, like Lindt’s Home of Chocolate, Maison Cailler in Broc, Maestrani’s Chocolarium and some other.
I don't think Switzerland has to be expensive. If you don't go shopping in the first store that comes along, you actually get almost the same prices as in Germany. About the swiss markets. There are Coop and Migros the biggest from switzerland. There is like average price. If you want to go cheaper you can go to the german ones like Aldi or Lidl. In the farming areas there are the Landi's where you find cheap products combined with farming stuff. In the little mountains village you mostly find a Volg. There is the same stuff like everywhrere but its a little bit cheaper and less selection.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes having a snoop around grocery stores in different countries 😂 Some of them are wild! Switzerland looks so fun, would really like to visit one day!
Brilliant video Hunter in the chair ❤️ jess didn’t get a chance 🤣 But Jess when you said “ swings when Hunter woke up. So sweet just seeing her lovely smile & Excitement 😍 Yes its is more expensive but the Beauty you get back From the stunning views Is so worth it . Looking forward to your next Road trip adventures safe Travels 🥰🥰
Love the relaxed vibe of this video. Looks a beautiful country! Your vlogs are inspirational, I have just started our family vlog channel as we are moving abroad in November and Cannot wait to do exploration vlogs like this!
As a Swiss family living in Zurich I can say you gave the best advice to shop in Coop instead of going to restaurants. If you want coffee and cake: The restaurant of the shop Migros has coffee and cake in the afternoon for 5-6 francs. Have a nice time here and welcome to Switzerland! :-)
Yeah, I'm more a migros guy myself but basically true... Zürich has some good value restaurants actually, and buying ready-made or fast food type stuff in either coop or migros won't be that much cheaper. So you can do either right or wrong. The "street food festival" however is quite the rip off. Been there done that and I won't be back. It's eye watering expensive even on a local salary, I know about 100 great restos with better value food. Coffee is so so, always pricey but rarely really good. I have yet to find a place that cranks out good coffee consistently... i'm disappointed more often than not.
@@randompersonontheinterwebs1348 mythos at stauffacher for example, from the top of my head... Love it, good prices, great portions, great food. Been there? I used to work around the corner there, ate there like 2x a week 😅 you can eat and have a drink for 14 bucks there. Still Zürich, it's never cheap, but for less than 30 bucks you can have an absolutely amazing Vietnamese meal at Co chin chin or Lebanese at moudi, incl. a drink. You can do that for 25 actually if you really try. A Migros meal will be nearly as much and not even close to as good is what I meant.
@@randompersonontheinterwebs1348 Yeah man, gyros wrap for 9 bucks from mythos for the win. Goes well with a Migros water for 1 buck 😂 Extra points for the take out version to eat it at the most beautiful "Schanzengraben" a 5min walk away. Priceless. Love it.
As a swiss I'm glad you liked it. Whats funny I was in Zürich last night at like 1am and it was the complete opposite of what you saw. Everything and everyone looked shady. Dirt everywhere. But its quite good at daytime. I can recommend Zug or Lucerne, I love those cities. And if you're open to really empty your bank account go to Zermatt and get a helicopter ride around the famous Matterhorn.
Of course everyone looks shady at night. Probably younger people mostly men dressed black for going out so yeah. But what's funny is that everywhere in Switzerland as you know dirt gets cleaned up overnight and on the next day everything's clean again!
what a great adventure. you show fantastic content always so deightful and informative. and hunter is so sweet and really mature, a true adventurer too. blessings and love from back home in oz.
Beautiful vlog! Switzerland is so clean and fresh! Yes it is expensive but the quality stands behind it. And I know sooner or later you guys will be sampling the chocolate, of course! 😋🌰
Been living in Geneva for 5 years from Australia. It’s all expensive at first, but the wages are amazing. I find Switzerland more affordable compared to Melbourne.
