Texas slowly started opening stuff up last weekend. The beaches, some hotels and restaraunts in Galveston were open and we're going stir crazy around here and decided to grab a couple boys and spend a day at the beach. Felt good to be almost kinda 'normal' again - if even for a few days. Glad we did it! Cielings were low'ish coming home to Austin so decided to file IFR for the first time since completing my instrument rating with IFR6 in Charleston, South Carolina a month in a half or so ago. Had a blast! Thanks for stopping by!

Strongly recommend u ease yourself into IMC before hauling your kids along. Plus u just installed the Gi275s which take a little getting used to. I speak with 18 years of IFR experience (Commercial SMEL/IFR and type rated in Citation 5xx and FAAST rep) and recall some silly mistakes at the beginning.

You might be right but my dad does has a lot of flying experience, and he did a lot of training before doing this on a high tech fly simulator and I don't know how many years he has but he might have as much as you but thanks for the info Douglas.

My son just told me there was a reply to this - took me a year to see it. Appreciate the feedback but there's so much context that is not included in this video. I had completed my IFR training a month prior - spent 9+ hours in hard IMC the week prior to my checkride. Then I spent another 5 hours with my CFII in the Mooney just a week a prior...with another couple hours in IMC and several approaches to near minimums. During this time period I was as proficient of an IFR pilot as I've ever been - and the weather that day was EXACTLY the reason I got my instrument rating. I didn't even have to shoot an approach...just needed to pop up through and then back down through a 800-1000' layer. Easy peasy.
