This was my first time fishing Lake Apopka in Central Florida. After spending the better part of my life fishing almost 300 days a year, it may be a little surprising that I've never fished on Lake Apopka. As a kid, growing up in Ocala, Apopka was known as a "dead lake". So, I never wasted my time on it. For the last several years, I spent most of my fishing days on guide trips on the Kissimmee Chain. While juggling a busy family life and guiding 5 - 6 days a week, I never had much time to explore. As many of you know, I now work full-time as the Product Marketing Manager for iKon Boats and this has allowed me more time for exploring. Rumor has it that Lake Apopka is on it's way back and I had to check it out. I spent the day punching / flipping outside Kissimmee Grass lines and pencil reeds. Here's what I used:
Rod: 13 Fishing Envy 8' Extra Hvy
Reel: 13 Fishing Concept A
Line: CPF Lures NINEX, 45 lb black braid
Weight: CPF Lures Burnt Tungsten 1/2 ounce
Hook: 4/0 straight shank flippin' hook (can't remember brand)
Lure: CPF Lures P&P Reaper, color - Dirty Albright
