Thank you for pointing out that not all "artists" are, in fact, artists. Entertainers, singes - yes. But it takes a lot more to be an artist. Florence, in my opinion, is an artist through and through.
You watch her being interviewed and she is shy almost introverted but once she is on stage she changes into this powerhouse and takes control of the stage it's incredible to watch.
When you said she is a visual artist, their third album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, it was a visual album or a short film called the odyssey. You should check it out!
I absolutely agree that Florence is at a completely other level when it comes to creativity, but I think that has a lot to do with her mental state also. In my experience being so creative usually entails some form of anguish or torment, but that could be a whole chicken/egg discussion (she even alludes to this in the first lines of King "what is art really worth, the very thing you're best at is the thing that hurts the most"). Having seen almost all of her videos it's clear she's also a good actor, very natural and believable, probably because it comes from a place of honesty. I tend to view a lot of "pop music" as being bland and meaningless, people singing other people's words as a form of glorified karaoke. Florence is definitely not that. There's a deep integrity to what she creates.
This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it. Florence is such a beautiful human, inside and out. Ill be seeing her for the 3rd time this fall and I cannot wait for another transformative experience.
She did a little movie: Florence + The Machine - The Odyssey (Full film, directed by Vincent Haycock) It is really just a bunch of videos from her album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful strung together with connecting film. It's cut into chapters. The one for chapter 8 Delilah is mind bending. It's all amazing.
Really freaking happy you reacted to this one! I know King was shot in Kyiv as well. I chucked a bit at first but then was left with a super heavy feeling at the end. I loved that when she was dancing, the male actor, the anxiety, was just lingering in the background...waiting...she's just a gift. Would love to hear both your opinions on Aurora-The Seed

Florence is a hurricane on stage she herself suffers from anxiety but when she gets on stage she's a force to be reckoned with her voice is so deep and when she's high in her voice wow people.
Totally hear you, Florence understands her music from a conceptual level--not just sonically but visually! Really appreciated your notes on that. Also, I think for sure this can apply to people with less invasive anxiety but what we're seeing here is clinical level anxiety (actually diagnosable) and that is a very different beast. Kind of like how someone can experience a bout of depression which is real but it is not the same as Clinical Depression. In one way it's great that people are more familiar with the terms and that we can talk about real but less clinically significant struggles and build support networks! The problem is that these terms are often misused or minimized. In example, someone saying something like, "Oh there goes my OCD" when talking about washing their hands thoroughly is NOT experiencing the equivalent of debilitation from washing one's hands to the point of tissue damage and what works to improve quality of life for one form is not at all suitable for another. On the coffee bit, I think you were getting the message because of the video and you're right! Caffeine is notoriously bad for those with anxiety and Bill Nighy as Florence's anxiety is constantly trying to give it to her (which feeds the anxiety but isn't good for Florence). I feel like you can really hear Jack Antonoff in this song. I am a fan and came to this album because I heard he worked on it but it’s strange it took me a while to get into this particular song. Now I love it though. I know I’m greedy for wishing this but what I wouldn’t do for a Cassandra or Daffodil music video…
