What I like the most about the Seamax is the speed and range bonus. The tricycle gear is a plus imho _ It is much cleaner in flight and if you screw up and land in the water with the gear down you are not going to flip and sink.
Just bought a SeaRey ( factory built) mine has a 914. Jumps off the grass and water. The canopy and nose wheel on the SeaMax were the disqualifier for me. In my opinion a fun airplane needs open windows and ability to land in tall grass and or drag your fingers through the water. Accidental gear down water landing seems scarier to me with that canopy, not to mention hot as blazes in Florida. Folding wings are a huge plus though!
Been looking at and flew the Searey. Did not think about the Seamax! Thanks for your video and input. Seems like a really good option. Only bummer is no sliding canopy. Wondering with the nose gear if it will handle more crosswinds in a land landing and takeoff? Thanks!!
Between the Seamax, Super Petrel, and Seamax, what is your favorite? i have a super petrel and also fly my friend's Searey. I have never flown a Seamax
I love the Super Petrel and for cool factor is my favorite. That being said the Seamax has folding wings which means I can take it on family vacations and that makes it a better fit for me right now. I got my sea rating in a Searey and really enjoy it but it’s easily behind the other two.
Searey has much more power, much sturdier gear and sliding windows. IMO, there is no comparison. Also, the Seamax has a tiny little nosewheel that could easily be a problem when beaching in anything but a perfect beach.
I have seen 25,000 hour float plane pilots loose their lives on a river with a crosswind, something that is impossible with a flying boat due to it being so low to the water. I would never own a float plane. Have flown in a Beaver out of Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., but then you have open water to always align into the prevailing winds.
@@cowboypilot3710 $200 is explainable, fuel and landing fees although you are promoting their brand just by talking about it but just ludicrous. I remember seeing their Promo when it came out and at that time I wasn't a pilot yet and Ill be honest the price point they initially launched was really good but nowadays its just ridiculous almost a 100% increase and for what? Just a quick one have you flown any SLING aircrafts? If not Would you?
