Just to elaborate: Busta Rhymes was not a member of Tribe Called Quest. At the time he was in a group called Leaders of the New School who were rapping alongside the Tribe.

Tribe is one of the most iconic groups of all time. Like BoyzIIMen they were school friends. Q-Tip is one of the most intelligent rappers out there, The later Phife Dog had a magic flow. You should watch the film “Beats, Rhymes, and a Tribe Called Quest” ( I have my college students watch it) to get a sense of the group’s complexity). Next, check out The Wu-Tang Clan” especially the album 36 Chambers. You are in for something special!

Spike Lee is in the video because he directed this video and this song was a collaboration with a group called Leaders of the New Skool which Busta Rhymes was in. You guys should go further back into hip-hop history and react to Eric B and Rakim and Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew's 6 minutes. The group has a young Slick Rick in the group. You guys should listen to "Can I Kick It" by A Tribe Called Quest. They sample several songs on it but "Take A Walk On The Wild Side" dominates the song. They were only 19 when they recorded it and they didn't make a cent off it. They instead had all of the proceeds go to Lou Reed, the writer and singer of the original song.

What made Tribe so special was their elevated conscience, and when Q-Tip went solo the message of positivity just seemed to kinda go out the window and he became a run of the mill MC that undoubtedly had incredible flow, but didn't really say anything of substance.

I, personally, don't really like the direction Busta went in his solo career... Definitely a lot of hot tracks, but he just fell in with the rest of the crowd in terms of what he chose to rap about. Drugs, violence, degradation of women. Such a talent that didn't choose to use it to elevate the minds of the audience.

@@SuperDaveSo I have a problem in retrospect with a lot of mid/late90s hiphop and onward. I love the beats and the flows and all that, but the casual misogyny, homophobia and constant n-word action make a lot of what I listened to then kind of uncomfortable to listen to now. Back then, that moment with Busta Rhymes was the intro to the Extinction Level Event which I heard in mixed and in one case pregnant company for the first time. Definitely an uncomfortable intro even back then.

@@metheus108 same here... the only hardcore hip hop group with a negative image I still listen to regularly is Cypress Hill... other than that I'm all about Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and digging into the early early days of hip hop when negative imagery wasn't an issue (Fearless Four, Funky Four Plus 1, Zulu Nation, etc).

Tribe Called Quest members were from Queens, NY. Not Brooklyn. Busta, as others have stated was a member of Leaders of the New School. The groups were closely aligned and collaborated. Also, the name of this song was from a greeting people in NYC used to say to each other back in the day. “What’s the scenario?” was like “what’s up?” Basically asking someone what they were up to or what was on their agenda.

This is one of my all time favorite hip-hop songs. Please also listen to Gang Starr - DWYCK and Pete Rock & CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You) which also stands for his brother Troy who passed away. That is the holy trinity of 90’s hip-hop in all its glory.

So I randomly know where they got the sound effect right after Lauryn Hill says "Send me an angel in the morning" and there is a repeating trumpet loop. Way back in the day there was a messaging program called ICQ. If it crashed badly, this sound would happen until you shut your computer down. Thanks Windows95 for revealing that sampling gem!

Tribe is both in the top 5 most underrated and top 5 gems of hip hop. As we are in this house all 45+ we are glad we were able to see Tribe in the Golden Age of hip hop of the 80's and 90's. Credit to you both @Twinsthenew for seeking back the classics. Greatness has NO expiration date.
