If you had caught them on tour then you had been there either in their early UK '77 tour or in late ''79 since they had also toured UK from 5-13th November '79.Lucky you!
It's maybe hard to imagine, but in the 70's there wasn't any overdubbing or stuff artists nowadays can do to make things sound more polished....this was the real deal, all four members of ABBA were highly schooled and talented. It is so good to see and hear this, thank you so much for reacting to the live version, I really enjoyed it!
Everything they released in the UK, continental Europe and Australia (pretty much) topped the charts from 1974 to 1982. It was just banger after banger for 7 years, if you look at their discography and order of release. It's really quite extraordinary. For some reason, the US didn't get them to quite the same extent at the time. Yes, they had some hits, but nowhere near on the same level as the rest of the western world.
My second concert I went to with girlfriend was Abba in '79 . (First was Jackson Browne with my Dad and his girlfriend in '78) The older you get the faster time goes by kids so enjoy your time together as much as possible.
Definitely not overdubbed, they underestimated their own live performamces. Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul Live TOGETHER is amazing from same show at Wembley.
Good to see you again, guys 😉 ABBA Live is wonderful too.👌 My absolute favorite are 'Summer Night City' (in Wembley Arena '79) and 'Money money money' & ''S.O.S." (live in Japan TV) Take care, guys ✌️ ❤️🇨🇱😘👍
If you liked this song, you will love Summer Night City. It has a bit more rock sound. As a fun fact, Agnetha always complained about Ola Brunkert hitting the drums too hard. Check the live video and you will see Agnetha trying to muffle the drums thunderstorm and sing.
@@christianoazzuro6711 Pretty much every song is good. Obviously, some people prefer this one over that one, but absolutely all of them are catchy and easy listening. I wish they had more with Frida's voice. That raspy tone was amazingly beautiful. Never seen, or heard two female singer voices getting along so perfectly.
@@paulocarvalho6480 'Never seen, or heard two female singer voices getting along so perfectly.' Absolutely! These 2 women vocal and visual chemistry is utopic.
that was a great reaction! excited for more (live performances) in this ABBA journey, and yes it is the original sound, they were crazy good in concerts
After five ABBA reactions with three Agnetha leads and two shared vocals the next reaction should be a Frida lead. For example Fernando, Money Money Money, Our Last Summer, When All Is Said And Done...
@@abicaisimbica Yes, I wish reactors would react to more Frida leads than only to her usual five ABBA Gold songs. Almost nobody reacts to I Let The Music Speak for example.
Madonna sampled that synth riff on her single "Hung Up", she got a very rare green light from the maestros to sample ABBA. So if you recognise it, it could be from her.
Even though I'm a rocker/metalhead, my mom jammed a lot of ABBA when I was growing up. There will always be a special place in my heart for this amazing group.
YES thank you once again for doing these...Bjørn and Benny were MASTERS of arrangements, and even though i love Anni-Frid.. Agnetha's voice is just wow.. again
This is absolutely the live performance audio. I, too, hate the practice of syncing the studio track to live concert footage - first of all because it robs us of the pleasure of hearing what is usually a more energetic rendition (because of the band-audience synergy you get in concert) and in part because the sync is always imperfect, obviously, which pulls me right out of it. Of course, officially ABBA is just Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha, and Anni-Frid - so for touring they have to have a backing band of drummer, bassist, background singers, etc. who don't get a lot of credit but really bring it live.
1977/'79-80 tour,They had 2 drummers,2-3 keyboardists,2 guitar players usually all playing simultaneously the same tune so to create a spectacular rich sound!
I was at Wembley for one of these concerts where this was filmed and that is not dubbed over believe me Agnetha really sounds that good. If you want really great live pieces by them you MUST watch 'Summer Night City' which is very different from the studio version and more like the way they wished they had done it. And the two songs that end the show which blend into each other 'Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul' these last two show a real rock side to ABBA. Your audio of this performance sounded a little muted compared to the actual video, not sure why.
It is live, they were phenomenal. For another live performance try "I've been waiting for you" There are other fantastic live performances too, ABBA are a perfect band to react to.
First comment here! Hello again friends So nice to see you return to ABBA songs "Gimme gimme gimme" (1979) is one of the two songs that ABBA premiered on the 1979 tour (other was "The way all friends do" starting the encore) "Gimme gimme gimme" is a very good song (8pts) in its disco genre the blonde singer Agnetha makes a powerful interpretation the keyboards riff of Benny was sampled by Madonna in 2005 for her worlwide hit "Hung Up" (with the permission of Björn & Benny as cowritters) but I have 20 other ABBA songs that I think are better (such is the level of excellence of the ABBA catalogue) This is one of their best performances of 1979, along with the duet Does your mother know + Hole in your soul and "Summer Night City" Also on the 1977 tour they have excellent performances with "Tiger", "He is your brother", and "Why did it have to be me" (these last without Agnetha) ABBA has a lot of quality in its live concerts, They had more than twice as many musicians and choristers to maintain the 'wall of sound' effect that gives the 'ABBA sound' its characteristic. and just a few months ago, in November 2022, ABBA uploaded to their RU-vid channel nine videos of their live performances from that same concert in London 1979, including this one you did already My suggestion is that you make of them "Summer Night City" I wish you a greatest week My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
I'm the right age (64) but I've never seen ABBA live. A lot of the video footage of TV appearances and so is playback. But what I saw in real live videos of ABBA was really impressive.
Abba singing live is so very close to how they sound on a record, just like the Beegee's they were as good live as on records, they barely needed any touching up to take their recording of a song to the finished product
Jane H commenting … This looks as if it could be their London concert. A great disco song. ABBA was so Huge all over the world. It was crazy how good they were, with hit after hit.
Great song great reaction. They could do any type song. They have sung in Spanish even and done a reggae song called Tropical Loveland. Another great song with Bjorn the guitarist as lead vocals is Does Your Mother Know the live version from Spanish TV is the absolute best (song is sung English though) Benny the pianist was at least 10 years ahead of his time with the synthesisers and Frida the red headed one was quite the dancer. She was so flamboyant on stage and in my opinion had the best stage presence of them all. She was in constant movement where as Agnetha was a bit more wooden and stiff.
From this concert also Chiquitita, Summer night city and Does your mother know/ Hole in your soul, absolutely fantastic performances. I highly recommend you listen to Gimme Gimme Gimme, the album version, too. Sounds so good.
Frida took ballet in her youth which is why she looks good in this dance routine... Great reaction again guys..."Keep being awesome "... See you when the next one...
One of my favorite movies is Mamma Mia!! and Mamma Mia! Here we go again! All Abba music! And really good movies!! Abba is the best thing out of Stockholm Sweden! Love them!
It’s not dubbed. They traveled with a large band and backup singers to to replicate the album tracks. This is from a full live show you can watch on here!!
Great that you didn't choose the official short video👍. There is now also a lyric pics video of the long song version. Other highlights of these Wembley shows in 1979 were the rocking song package DoesYourMotherKnow+HoleInYourSoul (without interruption) or the disco-rocking SummerNightCity with the fantastic intro, which some have already suggested. ABBA were simply fantastic live.
These guys are the most sucsessful band ever after the Beatles of course , But you can see why . They are absolutely awesome . . Benny on the keyboards wrote most of there songs and Bjorn also also has credit to some of the song writing . Just a Great Great group . THANKS jOHN
Many of the Canadians I know, have a life-long affection for the British group Supertramp. I saw them in concert in Vancouver when they undertook their massive Breakfast In America tour in 1979, and again in 1983. The group has an unique sound, I think you'd love. A good start would be The Logical Song or Take the Long Way Home, or the earlier Bloody Well Right. The group sold about 75 million albums.
If you recognise the synth part but not the song, it may be because Madonna sampled it in one of her songs. She reached out to Björn and Benny and they allowed it if they were added as co-songwriters.
You still should go back Further into the ABBA time line. WATERLOO. Their first international Hit that propelled them to world wide fame. It is short, fast and furious. Has one of the great chorus hooks.
This concert was an event! The BBC recorded it for broadcast. ABBA has since selected individual song performances to remaster the audio and up-convert the video to HD. They have released these on their RU-vid channel under "ABBA In Concert". Of these, the best two are each part of a two song finale that is AWESOME ! You can still find several videos having the set as a single video. Of those the one with the best video quality is "ABBA Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul Live 1979". Unfortunately that title is not exclusive enough to get the right video, so here is the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZM6T3QzcWhY.htmlfeature=shared
ABBA, first came to prominence when they won the European song contest in 1974 in Brighton, England, with the song Waterloo, that's were it all started and so began their worldwide pop careers. ( They were already big stars back home in Sweden before this) So if you want the original flavour of ABBA play the song Waterloo 🇸🇪 👍❤
Thx, Did you notice that there were two batteries? And also they are the first to have used wireless microphones during a concert. Even their outfit 45 years later is old-fashioned. But the studio version is still more successful, it seems to me. In live concert, "hole in your soul" in particular is much better and more rock😘
The outfits match the backdrop !! The backdrop is the trademark for Polar (Polar Records, Polar Studios Polar Publishing ) The Label is Polar, a quite small Swedish label, With license to Atlantic Polydor..... outside Sweden
Cool reaction. Do yourself a favor, if you like the live- yes, it is live vocals- you need to check out the official video for the album version and fun video. Cheers!
Hi, I enjoyed your reaction! 💙👍🏻Abba is legendary! Please react to Madonna's Hung Up music video since the song directly samples this track. It was a huge international hit and a top ten hit in both the US and Canada. I also can't believe you never reacted to any Madonna even though I'm aware you must know her most popular hits!
❤😊 This is great! Loved your reactions!! 😅❤ I want to go watch "MAMA MIA" again! I looked at your Playlist for ABBA and so far I think they are all in the movie, I just can't remember the scene for this one!! LOL 😅 If you have not heard of or watched the movie MAMA MIA, it started out as a Broadway Musical. Then they made the movie. Every song in the movie is ABBA's. It is soooo fun!! Filmed in Greece; the only trip I have ever taken outside the US wastoGreece!! ❤❤❤ Great reaction!! Luv you guys!!😊❤❤
They say no to sampling and use of ABBA music in commercials They cant say no to a cover. Songwriters can decide who should release a song. "be the original artist", but once it's released it's OK for everyone to do a cover Björn and Benny wrote "all" ABBA songs, some with Stickann Anderson and the girls on a few
@@jonasdahlin8670 They specifically said about her song they allowed it because they liked it and it was already recorded, they can say no if they want to, especially since her song is note for note the same.
Covers and sampling is a huge difference, They can say no to sampling , but not to covers, Hung up is not a cover, so she needed an approval@@ESPirits87
But using the melody / music with new lyric like this is not a cover, and sampling like this is illegal. Why not use the the correct word ? @@ESPirits87
This concert was released on vHS and sold in millions (and DVD), if you are an ABBA fan you have this on VHS one of the most played music videos, played on parties and teenage girls singing / dancing in front of a mirror / dreaming being Frida or Agnetha a lot of worn out vhs cassettes
The outfits the women are wearing 1 of 2 iconic they had. The other was the cats, which was a mini skirt length dress which had a mid calf length skirt over that could be easily pulled off.
When Madonna recorded " Hung up " she had to get permission from Abba to use the intro from this song, Abba get lot's of requests to cover there music , but rarely give permission to use it. However once he ( Bijon or Benny ? ) heard it me gave Maddona his blessing.
Probably the very best group ever, from winning the European song contest to go to no1 to no1. World Wide fame. Their is nothing dubbed over its called sheer talent through decade after decade and even now, their talent shines through. The list is long but you really should listen to more. Try "Winner takes it all" or "Chiquitita" "Dancing Queen" "Does your mother know"etc etc
ABBA songs you haven't done yet for your future reactions: The Name of the Game, Angel Eyes, Eagle, Rock Me, Summer Night City, Does Your Mother Know, Lay All Your Love on Me, Knowing You Knowing Me, Money Money Money, Waterloo, SOS, Fernando, Thank You for the Music
If you liked hearing Abba live you have to check out summer night city live and the medley does your mother know/hole in your soul live. Abba are as good live as they are in studio if not even better :)
