Sad and beautiful. The absolute genius that is ABBA is on full display in this song. The words, vocals, instrumentation ,compilation. It’s all here and it’s brilliant. The greatest pop music band of the 20th century. We will never see this again. Love ABBA.
This is one of Abba's more sad songs. Björn Ulvaeus admitted that the heartache of his breakup with Agnetha Fältskog inspired this song. In divorce no one really wins.
She was singing from the real events of her recent divorce from Bjorn, her bandmate and Ex-husband. The emotion was real. This song always makes me cry.
Agnetha Falskog the GREATEST POP Soprano in over 40 years . Range B 2 - F7 with a pitch perfect , Perfect Pitch, At 4:10 Agnetha hits a F 6 for six seconds ,a pause of only 2 seconds and does another F 6 again for six seconds . In 14 seconds Agnetha held a F 6 just over 12 seconds . She has gone higher but the song called for 2 F 6s ,and that what she did .
Absolute masters of their craft, Benny & Bjorn were excellent songwriters, Anni-frid (frida) & agnetha just had the most fantastic voices, but they way that Agnetha could belt out a note was just mesmersing, not to mention that growing up i had a crush on Agnetha despite her being 37 years older than me
Undoubtedly one of the greatest pop groups of all time and although their music might seem rather light and bubble gum oriented on the surface when you look a little deeper there's so much more to their music. I took a tremendous amount of heat from my contemporaries for liking this group 40 or 50 years ago but ABBA's music has certainly stood the test of time and they still get lots of airplay on the memory sticks I rock out to in the car. The production values, the instrumentation and the harmonizing vocals are all exemplary. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
HA! Same sentiments here--everything you said, right up to and including coming from the same place as you, although I'm not there anymore. By the way, I'm really worried about everyone living there, so please be careful and keep a close eye on your loved ones and things going on there.
It’s certainly not bubblegum. These lyrics were so poignant and written by a pair of Swedish guys whose second lt was. Anyone out there want to want to have a go at a hit song in Swedish?
@dasmaurerle4347 : English is a funny language... do you mean "tears me up" as in crying tears, or "tears me up" as in tearing your heart, as both can apply? Our silly language lol! I'm sure it would be more logical in German. 🤍
Agnetha is the real Pop Queen and thats why everyone that hears it for the first time always want to cry ... that was a time where it all meant something
ABBA in the begining two swedish couples, meet inb1969: Agnetha (blonde singer) & Björn (guitarist songwriter) Benny (pianist songwriter) & Anni Frida (brunette singer) Agnetha & Björn married in 1971, with two Young childrens Benny and Frida married in 1978, withouth own childrens both couples separated before the breakup of ABBA in 1982: Agnetha & Björn at end of 1978 Benny & Frida at begin 1981 "The winner takes it all" (1980) is one of the Best Songs by ABBA and the Most sad and emotional too The best lyrics by the guitarist Björn and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of the blonde singer Agnetha Fältskog and her soprano voice The lyrics is a fiction about a divorce, it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce between Agnetha & Björn in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978 In fact, the song was more nearly in time to the split of Benny & Frida as a couple, only a few months later "The winner takes it all" return ABBA to the Top of the charts, gives ABBA their eighth #1 in UK after almost two years and half Also was the fourth and last Top10 to ABBA in U.S (pick at #8 in 1981) and #1 in US Adult Contemporary too "The winner takes it all" was voted the Best ABBA song by the British fans, and is the favourite ABBA song to the blonde singer Agnetha and now in the new Voyage concerts at London that begins exactly one year before, the encore song is... In an interview on Australian TV Agnetha said that this is her favourit ABBA song. It was inspired by her and Björns divorce so I guess it has special meaing for her and her performance is not only world class, it is Epic!
Finally a reaction akin to the way this song has made me feel each of the thousands of time ive listened to it since 1980 when I was 16. I turn 60 in two days, 8/14. Thank you, Sarah 🥹
Brings back 70's memories. My parents had a casette in the car radio with Abba songs (and Boney M). I have lost count the number of times i have heard this. Now i have it on a USB stick in the car.
What an awesome video this group was so awesome another great reaction by you again like always you so awesome today too love your smile thank you so much for sharing this video with us love it .🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️👍
What a wonderful and heartfelt reaction to a brilliant band, a peerless pop singer and a great song, Sarah. I have watched not as many of your videos as I would wish, but you are so honest. Keep doing what you're doing. You are one of the very best reactors on RU-vid.
One of the best groups ever. What a fabulous lead vocal on this one. I think they're Swedish so this probably was done in a second language for them. Bravo!
Just one of those great sweet-sad songs getting impregnated in your soul forever once you have heart it. Its pop music at its best and at that time I fell in some kind in love with Agneta. Love to see your reaction.
Such beautiful reaction to beautiful music. Abba are the Mozart of pop music, the magicians of the musical world. Some of the best songs ever written covering a range of genres. Happy sad music which transcends all other. Love this group
This song, Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Sos...not sure anyone has written anything better and had it delivered so well by Agnetha and Frida. I just thought something very sad.... that when Agnetha passes, this song should be what everyone turns to illustrate her greatness.
This was one of the first songs I cried to when I was 12/13 years old back in the early 80s ... and it still can make me cry. Even if the text does not translate in your life (and it surely did not in my teenage years) the music does hit you soooooo hard if you feel the sadness of this song. What a wonderful sad song. Thank you very much for your authentic and honest reaction. Not wanting to feel others bad is just showing a caring heart. But everybody will feel bad in life sometimes. And then... these songs can make us help let out the emotions. Wish you all the best for your channel and your whole life.
It as written by her then husband (Bjorn the guitarist in the group) - because it was his way for saying sorry for their divorce/ a few months earlier....so she really was singing the truth from both of them from the heart........ they continued to perform togther for 3 years and had to deal with their feelings. An epic pop song reflecting the ;lives of the performers themselves...poetry in action
Sarah i just wanted to let you know when you teared up reviewing the American national anthem i teared up too! I just love your reviews, I'm not sure if you have ever reviewed Dionne Warwick- What The World Needs Now (1966) but it is such a beautiful song my favorite of all time, I really think if you never heard it before you would greatly enjoy it as you seem like such a sweet person and in light of the fact you do some war reviews as well as music I think you would also like the song Never Again - sung by Robin Moir (1985) in Canada public schools they used to play it for us every war vets day it is one that once I heard it i never again could hear the mention of war without the songs words again coming to mind. Thank you for all the reviews ya do.
ME AT THE ROLLER RINK AT 6 YEARS OLD IN 1986: "Jesus! This song is so old. Can you please play some recent stuff by the sisters of Heart, please Mr. Owner, sir, of Skate Haven?"
Ce mnunatiei a fost aceasta Agnetha ,incomparabila ,de neasemuit cu altcineva ,din toate punctele de vedere . Ai sta zi si noapte sa o asculti si sa o privesti !
Both laddies were each married to the prime male members so this was a band of two couples. They stayed together till death . Life long love of each other and beutiful music.
You really need to hear tommy Johansson cover of this song and all the other ones he's made. He puts a new twist on this. He is so talented .please do a reaction on him he's so talented singing and playing instruments
So sad that Agnetha agreed to sing this song about her ex-husband, Bjorn, written by Benny, pianist. Her ex was the guitarist next to her. How upsetting it must have been for her. Fabulous song though. xx
