My favorite singer of all time. Her voice is so amazing, and the music she writes is so perfect for her voice. The album Citizen of Glass is faaaaaantastic. Most of her music is piano and her voice.
thanks for reacting to my request, i highly appreciate it! im not from norway, i'm from iceland. from the westfjords of iceland, which is a sparely populated area in the north west. what i like most about agnes obel is her absolute precision. her music works like a swiss pocket watch. yes, her music is always piano and strings and percussion. and you can pick any live perfomance and you see her and her band play with this sophisticated precision. she is one of my absolute top live artists. i remember when i iwent to my local record store and found her album aventime and i just bought it because i liked her cover so much, never heard of her before. an i've put it on the turntable and got lost in her music immediatly. if you like to hear more of her, "familiar" would be a good song for it. and one of my top fav. live songs by her is "red virgin soil", an instrumental piece. if i was her, i would use it to open my concert. too bad that her full live set from philharmonie de paris was taken off youtube. it was one of the best concerts i have ever witnessed so far. really glad that you have enjoyed it!
Not so much that she is underrated, more that she is unknown to many. Those who know her rate her very highly. She is not a pop artist and she does not play big stadiums but her concerts are usually sold out well in advance. Just look at her Wikipedia page to see how many films and tv series feature her music. I have all her albums but there is still great joy in seeing her and her tour musicians play their instruments in live performances on RU-vid. Annoyingly this RU-vid video is in mono, but that same performance does appear on her Aventine (Deluxe Version) album in full stereo.
