The 80s hair metal band Europe had a ballad called "Carrie". I have a buddy with a daughter almost as old as that song whose name is "Carrie". And yeah. he confirmed my suspicions...she's named that cause that was the song that was playing when she was made 😅

When Steinman wrote it he intended it for Meat Loaf. Meat Loaf's record company didn't want to buy it, though. So he sold it to Air Supply. Same goes for Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

love this one too, written by Jim Steinman (who also wrote most of Meatloaf's big hits, as well as for Bonnie Tyler Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for A Hero). He has a distinct sound, and it works flawlessly when paired with the right musicians/singers.

Jim Steinman wrote this song intending it for Meat Loaf to sing. But Meat Loaf's record company wouldn't agree to buy it (they thought it would never be a hit), so it went to Air Supply instead. The same thing goes for the Bonnie Tyler song "Total Eclipse Of The Heart". Coincidentally, Bonnie Tyler did a really good cover of this Air Supply song on her 1995 album "Free Spirit".

Another brilliant Jim Steinman composition. The repetition, of "I know...." and then "I can make..." is so effective. This song hit #2 on the charts the same week another Steinman song (Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart) was #1. Actually I can hear some similarities with Eclipse in this song. And of course, these Air Supply guys can sing.

I've noticed how you always REALLY pay attention to lyrics. Others I've seen wouldn't really "break things down" the way you do. That, and just your energy, is why you're the best! I really enjoy your reactions. You should check out Lucy Thomas and her little sister Martha's cover of "the prayer". Lucy just turned 20 and Martha is 5 years younger. They did this cover two years ago. It's one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Lucy has an amazing voice. She is from England and has over 50 covers and has a concert coming up in October. She will be a huge star.

Russell Hitchcock, the lead singer, is widely considered one of the best singers in pop and soft rock. A phenomenal voice produced so easily. Just pick any of their songs and they are superbly done. Thanks for sharing as always.

So heres a funny story, we went to go see them 2 weeks ago over here in NY... we showed up at the venue and it was near empty... security stops our car and says show was cancelled due to the band having covid... i looked back at him and said... out of all bands in the world Air Supply would be the least expected to get covid... we just started laughing, anyway... we will see the postponed date in October

This is Air Supply's masterpiece, a brilliantly epic ballad. Truly one of the greatest songs of the 80s, but the video is egregious. I don't know what the hell the writer and director were on about, but the visual narrative of a relationship going bad over time has not a goddamned thing to do with what the song is saying or meaning. It's nonsense plus it looks cheap into the bargain.
