Fun Fact. The band recorded this without any intention of releasing it publicly because of copyright. Someone in their camp, their manager sent the copy of their recorded song to MJ’s manager. He(MJ)listened to it, he loved it, and he allowed them to release it, which is how this song is now available.
When weird Al turned Bad into Fat, MJ loved it. He let Al shoot the video on his set and was backstage watching and hehe'ing the whole shoot. MJ was one of the best kind of ppls
yeah he does. the bassist as well - and i notice hes playing a 6 string i think which is generally a pretty good sign that someone is WAY too into bass guitar haha
Certified banger. And as others have said, Michael Jackson actually really liked this cover. Michael's family invited them to play at a tribute concert for him after he passed.
Imagine that, said a Perfect Circle to John Lennon. Then Pantera showed Black Sabbath how Planet Caravan is supposed to be played. Then, Disturbing Dave taught us all about the Sound of Silence
The late 90s early 2000s was a very unique time in music, a lot of musicians, pop stars, rockers and rappers were crossing lines, covering songs of different genres and everybody was having a good time And so many different genres were getting radio play, great time to be alive as a music lover
@@samantharose1144 I've been doing that for months, this song I requested about 9 months ago and they finally got to it, so just gotta be patient, @LostInVegas is the same way
My fav part about their cover is they really did it verbatim but just in their style and instrumentation. If you are going to cover a masterpiece THAT'S how you do it!
Have you heard Pantera's cover of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath? Have you heard Eddie Vedder cover Masters of War by Bob Dylan? Have you heard Jimi Hendrix cover the national anthem at Woodstock 69? Have you heard Larkin Poe cover Take What You Want, or any other song they've covered? Have you heard Johnny Cash cover Hurt by Trent Reznor? Jus'wondering
They came on campus my freshman year in undergrad and killed this live! I remember not all of us had heard of them, but free concerts back in the day you go to-and the crowd lost their MINDS !! A grunge Michael Jackson cover???ANNIE ARE YOU OKAYYY!! 🤟🏼People doing Michael Jackson dances, everyone singing along, white, latino, African American, Asian. A jam that’s lit transcends. 🔥
It's not a grunge MJ cover. Grunge is alt rock music from the late 80s and 90s. This came out in the 2000s. That would make it post-grunge if it had the grunge sound but it doesn't. This sounds nothing like grunge bands Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. Wikipedia says it's nu-metal. Sounds like alt rock to me.
Yea! Love AAF! You'll want to watch their "Movies" official video sometime. Of course they are huge MJ fans, so they made sure to pay homage to him as much as poss... in case you didn't notice, the drummer had just one glove on. MJ liked it so much his family invited AAF to play this at his Memorial Concert.
One of the best remakes ever. It’s amazing hearing the original as a pop song from the King of Pop himself and seeing how this song makes an awesome hard rock song too! These guys killed it on this song and video.
@@brianezell5790 Courage, Bad Morning, Sticks and Stones, Attitude, Drifting Apart, These Days, Stranded, Summer, Flesh and Bone (just to name a few) are all VASTLY better songs than their cover of Smooth Criminal
@@brett2015 none of those songs are anywhere close to being as good as their cover of Smooth Criminal. You and very few others think so. Their cover of Smooth Criminal is the best cover song that I have ever heard.
What an absolute banger! Not usually a fan of covers but every once in a while someone turns good. This is not only a fantastic cover but also a huge tribute to MJ. Great work AAF. RIP MJ.
I'm one of people who requested this - I knew you guys would feel it! Ya gotta hear 'The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get' - if you felt Alien Ant Farm I think you'll feel this one as well - it's rock it's punk it's SKA with a horns and a sax - it's just gonna hit different than anything else.
You know why it's so much better to watch these guys watch the video then just to watch it yourself? You feel like you're sharing it with your good friends something that you love that you know they're gonna love
Michael loved this version, and it's easy to see why. Great reaction guys! I'd normally take a moment to recommend another song but the autoplay did it for me before you closed the tab 🤣 DEFINITELY check out "Fat Lip" by Sum 41!
You guys always bust me up. Glad you dig my boyees! I was the first person to ever play AAF on the radio. (As well as half the band in their previous outfit called Brother Vibe.) Always extremely entertaining watching your reactions, guys. 🤘 I forwarded this to my bro Mike, their drummer. 🤣🥁❤️ 👽🐜🏡
And someone who's really into music I have anthology in my top 10 albums of all time I've played it for at least 100 people and never seen anything but Sterling positive reactions
@@seanhutt4621 🤘🤘🤙👏👏👏. That's badassery, Sean!! ❤️ Have you heard the hubbub about some shidiot fanboy accusing Dryden of "assaulting" him at a show a couple months ago?! 🤣. It's just a homophobe sue-happy dork who should never be allowed into an actual rock show. He was in the front row, grabbing at Dryden's hands, trying to take selfies instead of rocking out to THIS song. Wherein, in the spirit of MJ (or is that parody?? 😝)- there's a LOT of junk-grabbing happening. Baby boy didn't wanna let go of Mitchell's hand, and got a little brush on the outside of Dry's crotch for a millisecond. Now dude is disrespecting all ACTUAL victims of sexual assault by claiming he got his feelies hurt in the front row. (Don't let this 'flake into a Marilyn Manson show. 🤣). It would be god-awful if Dryden caught any actual criminal charges for this idiotic money-grab attempt, but I don't see a chance in hell! When I first heard it, I was absolutely POSITIVE he was getting a quick jab back at some asshole poseur who must've been pestering from front row all night. It would be perfectly in line with Dryden's personality and out-of-the-box wicked sense of humor. After saying as much alllllll over the LOADS of conversation in the video's comments...I actually then watched the clip. It's a distinct and complete capture of the "incident". I WANTED IT TO BE DRY SCARING the likes of some fake rocker!! Unfortunately, it couldn't be more obvious that it is just a nano-second of unintentional barely-happened contact. SMH Some people will go to the edges of the universe to try to scam other people's money. Just SAD. 👽🐜🏡🤘🤘
I partied with them when they toured with Papa Roach way back when. Awesome guys, played a great live show. This song was an amazing cover, and the video is one of the greatest ever.
Yes Yes Yes!!!! LOVE this! I never get tired of this video because it’s filled with so many Michael references. I cried the day he died; such a huge part of my growing years, beginning with the Jackson 5 in the 70’s. The consummate performer. My favorite: “Lady In My Life” PLEASE react to it!!!!
This is one of the great cover songs of history. If you like covers that go hard, check out Leo Moracchioli. His covers of Africa, Toxic, and Dance Monkey are my favorites.
Hell yea! My fellow HFStival partiers!!!! The Buzz (Rave tent) set off an entire change in my music. My parents took me to the Colt fest (Baltimore the Colt 90s radio) at like 6 years old and went to every HFStival. EMINEM!!!!! By far the best show of my life!!!!!! His crowd work was next level! Nerd, U2, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Green Day, Rage Against the Machines, KMK! That festival every year changed my life
There is a Eminem tour DVD I have from his tour with D12 in Europe including Amsterdam! That would be the best review video of clips from that. It has proof and Eminem having a blast all kinds of stuff
I discovered this cover 20 yrs ago when I was downloading music from Napster to burn playlists on CD’s. That’s how amazing it is: you remember the first time you heard it
@@seanhutt4621 The entire video is an homage to Michaels history. But a lot of people overlook the stuff going on in the background and what's in front of them. The kid wearing a facemask was an homage to Michael.
I read somewhere that this kid showed up on set and showed his dancing skills and the band was blown away. But since the kid was underage, his parents didn't want his identity known... hence the face mask. They agreed to that and let the kid show the world how to break it down.
Your enthusiasm for music and having fun together is what brings me back again and again. Nobody does Michael Jackson like Michael Jackson but…. You got to admit this was pretty good both the song itself and watching the video. It’s really is just a tribute to Mike and some of the memorable moments in his life and career. Because there really hasn’t been anyone to totally take his place. The truly great artists of our time are very rare. The list is short. Guys like Freddie Mercury, The Beatles, Elvis or the legendary Prince. He belongs at the very top of the list. In my life there’s only been two in my Opinion. Freddie and Michael. They had superpowers. The entire world loved them.
The Michael Jackson estate actually gave them permission to do this cover which is very rare. They say that Michael watched this and loved it. They did sooo many MJ references it’s so hard to catch them all. I watched this guy that also commented on this video and I can’t believe how much he caught! I’ve seen this since the day it came out but never actually analyzed it. I have to find that link for you guys…. I promise you will appreciate it! Thank you as usual for putting me in a good mood at the end of my day. You always make my entire family laugh!! We really need that over here so another job well done guys. Keep on rocking! ❤❤❤
Solid workout song, and one of the best remakes ever. Idk if y’all have reacted to it yet, but Jay Z and Linkin Park, Collision Course would be a great reaction if y’all have never heard it!
Hello CF FYI: AAF actually asked permission from MJ before doing their version of his song. MJ asked to listen to first. After hearing it, he easily approved and even helped them with some ideas for the video. MJ was never found guilty of the 2 accusations. District Attorney determined there wasn't enough evidence for at least 1 of the 2. Joe Jonas is married to Sophie Turner from GoT, in 2019 twice. They currently have 2 daughters. Sophie is English. She is also known for playing Jean Grey in "X-Men" films. Nick Jonas is married to Priyanka Chopra in 2018. She is NOT Middle Eastern or Muslim. She is from India and Hindi. She was a top Bollywood actress before starring in ABC's "Quantico" investigation thriller show. She has also done American movies like "Baywatch" (2017) and "The Matrix: Resurrections" (2021). They currently have 1 daughter.
I was 13 when this song hit the charts (Australia). I can remember the best times dancing in my bedroom to this on repeat and taping it on tape from the radio on my cassette player. ❤😂😅
Love the show guys!! You have to do the song Fat lip by sum 41 It was the song that started to play right before you shut I off. You guys will absolutely love it!! Keep killing these reactions 🔥🔥
MJ's appeal reached world wide which is amazing. Not only did he own his own catalog but also half of Sony's publishing. The man was smart and targeted because of it. He was found innocent and people continue to lie while expecting to get rich. Regardless His legacy can't be tarnished and MJ still King 👑
OMG!!! I have never heard or seen this version and it is awesome! They rocked it and the video is badass! Michael's video of Smooth Criminal was one of my favs because the dancing was on point! I have to check this video out on youtube.
Hands down one of the best covers in all of music, not just in rock or pop. They nailed it. Only other cover I can put on this level is Limp Bizkit doing Sanitarium.
Such a jam!!!! I remember when this came out back when MTV played music videos all the time, being a kid and dancing in the living room to it with my sister lol good times man
You guys should REACT/listen to HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH if you haven't before. They are a band that Darius Rucker is in. They made some big hits in the 90's. They are considered soft rock.
In the mid 2000s I was taking music classes at a small Junior College in Cali, and the bassist for this band went there. He was in my guitar class. He was humble and quiet. When they went on hiatus they wanted to become better musicians, so he went back to school.
Alien Ant Farm… the pride of Riverside, California. Their cover of Smooth Criminal got huge and was overplayed all over the radio when it came out. Instant hit. Personally my favorite song from AAF is “Movies”.
