Last comment I promise 😆😆 but for the most part, we are very culture proud here in NZ. I'm not Maori but I come from a long line of NZ born Pakeha and we are all fighting to keep the traditional Maori culture alive! Te Reo is the official NZ language and it's making a big come back in the school system which is amazing!

Glad to hear the language is making a comeback. Everyone should be as in touch as possible with their roots, and there's so much you can learn about a culture through their language.

I'm new to the channel, and I have to say that between your HU reaction and this, I'm impressed with how worldly you are. You even said "Uce" which certainly isn't a commonly known term unless you're Polynesian or a pro-wrestling fan. The three kids in this band look like three little white boys, but are actually all of Maori descent themselves. Many of the actors in the video were their family members. Just a little trivia.

I think I remember reading or hearing that they actually _wrote_ the song when they were younger still. Like 13, 14 years old, if I recall correctly. Though I'll be the first to admit that I'm not 100% sure about that. If there's anybody here who does actually know for sure, I'd be happy to either receive confirmation or be corrected.

Kia Ora bro the ng in Kai Tangata is pronounced like the ng in Singer like (Kah-E Tah-nga-ta) our vowels are A-e-i-o-u so the nga is combinated with ng and Ah sound so Māori is (Maah-Or-Ree) however the letter “O” in Māori is pronounced like How Or is pronounce in english without the r in it of course and the letter “R” is rolled like spanish but not as strongly rolled like how most spanish words are hope this helps

1st and fore most, my metal heart skips a beat when I listen to Alien Weaponry. What got my attention was, how thrashy they are! I am oldschool metalhead. And, I dont believe, I have ever experience a time, when my favorite band will take 2nd place on my list of G.O.A.T! But here we are! I havent heard this good of good composition in a very long time. Last was Metallica, in their early days. These guys know how to tell a story with the lyrics and sound of their individual instruments. U have to listen closely. U can tell when the sound switches, something in the is happening, and rhythm takes the cake from there on. Just fantastic. So proud to be a fan of them. They have been playing since they were kids, and they had their culture infused into them. Of which, they started to make great music, growing up! Their musical background was just to easy.😅 I commend them for having worked towards something all ur live is coming true! We hear u, Maori ppl! Fight to keep ur culture & language! We see u! I love how they turned their pain into such beautiful music! Move over Metallica! The new kings have arrived!❤

Traditional Ta Moko (tribal affiliated, geneological Māori skin art) was actually scarification rather than tattooing 2 layers of the skin. Back then it was meant to permanently scar so that one could feel figuratively & literally, the symbols/totems of our ancestors on skin. Nowadays, tattooing methods have adopted the modern Instruments but they do negate the meaning behind Ta Moko. I have Ta Moko - tribal affiliated pattern- on my forearm, & back. I had family & tribal members sit with me throughout the 2 sessions - 5 hours each, singing and talking with me to process the pain throughout...a Ta Moko is not an individual responsibility, but a community thing. As I hold them up as a rep of our community, so too do they hold me up when I need them. A Ta Moko is the personification of community spirit & unity.

I KNEW you'd like this one! I heard it and it blew my mind! (Okay I'm 63) LOVE IT!!! I love Napalm records; I like my metal RAW! DON'T translate a great song into english unless it was written that way. The FEELING is so much more important! Love Hu too, love to hear metal in it's original language. And I can't imagine the pain of that kind of tattooing....and I'm about 1/3 covered myself. If I went tribal, I'd have to go all the way and have it done traditionally. F*** the pain!

Glad YT suggested this reaction. Great video. It is only loosely connected to the lyrics if you read them, but does a great job of introducing the band and explaining why they are called Alien Weaponry as colonialism is a recurring theme in their music. Another band to check out is Mongolian folk metal band The Hu, and Wolf Totem is a popular starting point.

Actually the ta moko wasn't tapped into your skin back in the time of Hongi Hika.It was chiselled in to the skin where if you've ever carved with a chisel it was like that.but the grooves were filled in with ink made of ash and fat.

No disrespect or offence intended, although the musket (alien weaponry) was more advanced, they took too long to reload vs clubs and close quarter combat (traditional weaponry) however, muskets could also be used as clubs. Phonetically Too-mah-toe-eng-ah is culturally considered the diety of Men and the domain of War. Although, there is a long way to go, NZ are considered by many western democratic societies as being more advanced in awareness and understanding of the indigenous language and culture. NZ, once again daring to think outside the square, proving that two cultures can live together. The possibilities are endless and some are being achieved and some future ideas and initiatives are still in progress. The title of world leaders unafraid to experiment, make mistakes and take accountability together and try different things. With a millescule population of 5million people, that's quite impressive in 2023

The best way to sum up metal culture is a family. On the contrary of being evil, chaotic, and negative, metal artists express their past/current struggles may they be mental issues, drinking or drug problems, past abuse etc, and the fans relate obviously, because these are common issues. The crowd/fans in turn unite because we're here to release out pent up anger with people that are going through the same thing as us. When someone falls in a mosh pit, they get picked up. If they're hurt, they get carried out. Then there's themed metal like this, that teaches you a great history lesson you may not have known about. Positive aggression. Metal provides an outlet that a kid or adult might not have in their normal life setting.

One of the worst parts of civilization - advanced weapons and warfare. Here, in this video - a critical moment, a clash of the epoques, a shift, a transition. Transition which has left scars, tha only grew bigger by the time. The band did a perfect job in showing this. And even without knowing the language, the meaning behind this strikes deeply. Amazing!
