One of the few videos with all four brothers singing from left to right: Maurice, Andy, Robin, then Barry. The movie soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever was the top selling soundtrack for years, and might still be. The Bee Gees were writing songs for a new album in Europe when they were asked to write some dance music for a movie. They said “no, we are busy but we have a few we are looking to put on our next album, so they sent 5 or six songs. They didn’t think anything about it until they learned the soundtrack was selling record amounts. I believe they had 5 or 6 hits from this album at the same time on the Billboard charts.

This is considered their first disco hit. You Should be Dancing went to #1 on Billboard's top 100. The man sharing mic with Maurice is younger brother Andy Gibb. He had a solo career but joined his older bros on stage for this song
@HepauDK
@HepauDK 3 года назад
Most of the songs from Andys solo career were written by his brothers. So even though it was a solo career, the music was still pretty much Bee Gees. :) But then again, the brothers Gibb made a heck of a lot of music for other performers as well, from Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream) to Dionne Warwick (Heartbreaker, one of my absolute favorite 80's songs).

Check'em out with their overbanger 'Tragedy'! But what's been the tragedy in that year, they dominated charts worldwide and the SNF-album shot thru' every roof like a rocket to the stars? They've been ignored by the academy and nobody remembers the name of the music-oscar-winner that year. They would have deserve it much more than many of those, which have got it, all over the years!

The dancer is actor John Travolta who was a dancer before he was an actor, and the dancing clips are from 'Saturday Night Fever' that he starred in and that this song is from the soundtrack of. The young guy clapping around the stage and singing next to Maurice is Andy, the youngest Gibb who was a decade younger than his brothers (and their non-singing sister) and had a very successful solo career but was about to join his brothers in the band when he died just days after his 30th birthday.

Was it a hit? It was HUGE man! I know, I was 8 when this came out and I remember it VERY well, it got a lot of radio play. Glad the younger generation thinks that just because it's "old" it's not worthless and as an "old" guy it's nice to see this music is appreciated. In a world of sampling, fully digital tracks, no musicality, and people who can't really play an instrument or sing without an autotune keep looking back to the classics. Not classic to ME but trust me, in about 20-30 years, who will be remembered in the current charts? 1, 2, 3 at most. Remember Mozart? Still played and he died in 1791!

"You Should be Dancing" was from the movie soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever" - It made John Travolta a film star. During the 70's when the Bee Gees were on a hot streak of songwriting, their music played everywhere you went. 1 out of 7 households owned the "Saturday Night Fever" album. I was a self-professed "dancing fool" during this time, Farrah-hair, rayon/polyester dress, mood ring - But WHAT a time to be alive when the Bee Gees were the Number One group! And Barry Gibb? Absolutely gorgeous - This man had it all - In fact, I still have my "Barry-in-Black" 1979 poster!

The song was their third Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 and their sixth No. 1 in Canada. It ended as the No. 31 song of the year.[6] In the '70s some of the Bee Gees' songs were deemed too uptempo for AC/Easy Listening Radio which led to "You Should Be Dancing" only reaching No. 25 on that chart.[7] It also hit No. 4 in Ireland. In Australia, where the brothers spent a number of years in their youth, it managed only to nick the top 20. "You Should Be Dancing" is known today as the first chart-topper in which Barry Gibb uses his now-trademark falsetto in a lead vocal (he had previously used it on the top 10 "Nights on Broadway" and on "Fanny (Be Tender with My Love)"). Earlier songs, such as "Jive Talkin'", had Gibb use a melodic blue-eyed soul vocal style.

When Saturday Night Fever came out, you had to be 12 to watch it. I was a very small girl and they would’nt let me enter the cinema. I cryed so hard and demanded them to call my mom to ask her my age. The quard sneaked me inn than 🥰

This took place in a dance club in Brooklyn NY. I danced on that floor the last night the club had that floor. That was 2002, I believe. They had sold the floor to a Hollywood museum and it was being picked up the next day. That club was packed that night and that floor is not as big as it looks in the movie. They played the film’s soundtrack that night as well as other tunes. It was so much fun…..
