Absolutely the godfathers of metal. When I was 12 or 13 my brother got sick of hearing me blast the Beach Boys record and grabbed it and broke my record on his knee. He told me if I wanted to be one of the cool kids I'd have to start listening to rock n' roll. He slapped the PARANOID album into my hands and I've been hooked on Metal ever since. True story...
Song was written in 30 min during a smoke break due to record company rules they needed one more song, explains the short length as well. Just wait - Toni Iommi has endless great riffs to share!
This is one of their mild songs made just for airplay. Just wait till you dig deep into their catalog. Being that they are the Godfathers of heavy metal you will really appreciate them
@@adrianionobrocea3862 definitely Sabbath had such an impact on me as I was growing up as did led Zeppelin and deep purple I have to say Sabbath are one of the most influential bands of all time simply because they pissed off everyone that didn't understand Thier brilliance
I had to grin when I saw the word "mild" applied to this song, but I understand what you mean. I remember some controversy about the lyrics with some feeling that it somehow was offensive to people with mental illness- of course lots of older folks (then) were pretty offended by Black Sabbath on principle.
Just because you’re from somewhere, doesn’t mean you have to know everything or have experienced something. You aren’t a clone. Glad you are expanding your knowledge and horizons 🤛😎👍
My most favourite song ever. Love it. I live in Birmingham - the place where Black Sabbath were formed and I truly feel this city. I come from Silesia - southern part of Poland - which is heavy industrial region as well. That’s why I feel and appreciate that kind of heavy stuff.
Songs were shorter back in the day because the record companies were trying to keep them within a certain length for radio. You also had physical considerations like fitting the song on a 45RPM single for juke boxes, and fitting entire albums on 33 1/3 RPM vinyl. You should have seen how much Queen had to fight to make Bohemian Rhapsody, and that was in 1975.
In your War Pigs video I left a guide about Sabbath and who they are and how to listen to their discography, you won't regret it. and one day you could visit the Sabbath memorial in Birmingham
We were all so young! I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and it was an exciting time for music lovers!! Concert tickets were cheap and live performances are always so much more fun 😎👵🏼💜☮️
My dad is a major Hawkwind fanatic, and used to make us endure hoooouuurrs of concert videos back in the 80s/90s when we had 1 TV/VHS player and what mum or dad wanted to watch is what was on. So when my mum would go out to bingo on a Saturday night, we’d have to either watch Hawkwind or go to our rooms🤣 My mum was not keen on it at all, and would only allow Paranoid and Silver Machine to ever be played in her presence, so I can’t hear one of those without thinking of the other. Also, our local pub had a jukebox that had both of those tracks on it. While we were would choose something cheesy like The Bartman for our pick, my dad would endlessly play Paranoid and Silver Machine.
Grand Funk Railroad has a brilliant song of the same name, different song. Any of us who were schoolkids in the early parts of the Cold War can identify closely with the lead-in and the sound effects at the end.
All of that background is called psychedelia. This was 1970, the era of psychedelic music art and fashion. And what you're witnessing with Black Sabbath is literally the birth of metal rock. These guys were the pioneers. Can't believe you haven't heard this. The song is iconic in the states. Another iconic song is an Ozzy Osbourne solo song... "Crazy Train". Check it out! 👍👍
I was born in 1970 but it took me several years to discover Black Sabbath. I think I first heard them around 1980. Amazing performance considering none of the guitars are plugged in lol.
I first heard this song in the early 90s when I was like 15. Back then I already thought it was ancient. To think about that now, more than 30 years later....damn i'm old 😅
fun fact last song written, they needed one more song ob the album so the other guys went out for lunch according to Tony Iommi the guitarist ....Tony sad and came up with the riff
I'm so late to this reaction to Paranoid but it's just such a good song and Ozzy loved music so much like the air he breathed you can see him smiling through most of his songs you gotta check out Iron man it's soooo good War pigs one of my faves you heard I gotta find what you did on Ozzy but Rock on 🎵🎸🏃🏃🥳🎶🎵🎸❣️
Just some nerdy notes from a collector an also BIG fan of B S : B S debut 1970 Black Sabbath ..... We also have an american rock band called Coven : Coven was the first to do occult lyrics, witchcraft and so on and even named the master himself as Satan ... Coven "Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls" 1969. 1. track called "Black Sabbath". Bass player was called Oz Osbourne .... Cheers in maid from Denmark :)
I still have my ticket for seeing Black Sabbath for the first time on 24 January 1972 at Birmingham Town Hall. I just came across it again the other day when sorting out some drawers. If bands produced songs hoping to get them in the singles charts, they had to be no more than 3 minutes long to get radio play, and TV play on Top of the Pops. Led Zeppelin didn't care about getting into the singles charts which is why they didn't produce 'singles', never in the UK, though their record company, issued a few of their longer songs as singles in the USA. LZ relied on album sales and concert income.
Many, many good Black Sabbath songs. The original heavy metal band. One of my favorites is "Sweet Leaf" off the Master of Reality album. Another is N.I.B. off their first album.
You should listen to the first album. Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath. If you please tell us where the house on the cover is because it still exists. It’s somewhere in England. Thx. Like how you’re throwing back to my day. My favourite band!!!!
This was released in 1970, it was still hard to get songs over 3 minutes long or so onto the mainstream rock radio stations, and radio airplay back then could make or break your album sales, since that was almost the only vehicle available to widely promote your music. In fact, Iron Man from this album was one of the first songs to successfully break that rule to any great extent.
When death calls Black Sabbath with Tony Martin out front or Nightwing I'm the only one you will here this from you will love it I 💕 Tony Martin era sabbath
Toni Iommi said once in an interview " We're aren't a heavy metal band. I don't even know where that term came from or who invented it ? We're just a rock n roll band".
Nice! You know "Ozzy" in an instant. Have you listened in on, "N.I.B" Satan himself in that tune. Anyways these are "The Godfathers Of Rock" Super fab reaction. Peace On Ya
So glad you have done this one as this song was the song which first got me into heavy metal! It was released in 1970 but it was in the early 80s when I heard it for the first time. I was a teenager and after hearing it on an old Black Sabbath Greatest Hits album while at a mates house I was hooked. The song Black Sabbath from their self titled debut album is also amazing. Also NIB, Sabbath bloody Sabbath and Fairies wear boots. The original Changes is also good - I mean the original Black Sabbath song not the remake Ozzy did with with his daughter. Have you heard any Motorhead? Lemmy was a lyrical genius his song lyrics were poetry. Surely you've heard Ace of Spades by Motorhead, if not thats a good place to start. Brotherhood of Man God was never on your side One more fucking time I dont believe a word I aint no nice guy (duet with Ozzy) Love me forever No voices in the sky Dont let daddy kiss me 1916 These are all my particular favourites. Also take a look at Judas Priest who have been round since the early 70s - Rob Halford has an amazing vocal range. IMO the bsst albums are British Steel, Screaming for Vengence & Painkiller (which was the album I first became aware of them) I also adore their concept album Nostradamus which isssss REALLY different. But they are still going and very recently releassd a new album.
Paranoid album was originaly ment to be tittled war pigs and had about 3minutes to fill on the album so the producer wrote paranoid in about 5 minutes they recorded it then album was tittle was changed from war pigs to paranoid due to the veitnam war at the time
Tony Iommi came up with the riff while the others were away to eat, Geezer then wrote the lyrics to the song and Ozzy made the melody for the song, all this done in under 30 minutes
It’s bitchen seeing the torch passed to a new generation. I was around as a youngster listening to these great Heavy Metal bands . There were more great bands later as well. Try Corrosion of Conformity: Albatross!
This is Black Sabbath at their most basic. They expanded musically from about 1973- 1976, then they sort of self imploded due to drugs. I like this song a lot but it's to Black Sabbath what I Want To Hold Your hand is to The Beatles. Raw and catchy.
Hey man -,have a look at Mark Knopfler from dire straits, telegraph road ,live at Saville 2015. They have heaps of cool songs . Plenty of guitar stuff.
I remember putting the 7 inch single on the turntable and watching the vertigo label spinning round until I felt sick and dizzy. Try "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. It got them banned from the BBC because it was deemed to be satanic. However, one DJ Alan Freeman alias "Fluff" defied the BBC and still played their stuff. They wrote a surprisingly soft and beautiful instrumental piece called "Fluff" in recognition of his loyalty. Keep it up lad.
Start from the beginning - Black Sabbath the band - black sabbath the album and Black sabbath the song - Play it all the way through then go on to the next - Not A dud in the first 6 albums
Black Sabbath introduced Heavy Metal. Your young..wish I were😔 Very interesting to see someone hear awesome rock n roll tunes for their first time. I'm 51yrs old & don't remember my first time..feels like these tunes have always been in my life..WHICH THEY HAVE! I'm a woman believe or not. I'm a major Pink Floyd fan, Supertramp fan, Aldo Nova fan, Alan Parsons fan, Headpins fan, Iron Butterfly fan, ZZ Top fan, Boston fan (sooo should check Boston out!) Led Zepplin (of course) fan, REO Speed wagon fan, Triumph fan, Rush fan, Foreigner fan, Steve Miller fan, John Fogerty fan, Foghat fan, The Police & Sting fan, Genesis fan, Eagles fan, Styx fan, ELO fan, Journey fan, Scorpions❤ fan😊, Jethro Tull fan, CCR fan, Bob Segar fan...on n on it goes!!..soooooooo many great bands to enjoy & love!!!🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴❤🔴🤗
Toni Iommi on guitar is a genius. Try Planet Caravan or Its Alright for something surprisingly different from them. Awesome band. Also the Heaven and Hell album is worth a go with their 2nd singer, Ronnie James Dio
When the Paranoid album was recorded, studio execs deemed its running time too short. So, the lads wrote an extra tune then and there as a "filler". This is the song.
Thought you'd remember from Guitar Hero 3 mate! Maybe you didn't play all the Songs or you probably played it as a young kid heh, it's been ages ago though😌 enjoying these reactions, keep it up
