RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Incidentally this song has won numerous polls for best rock song of all time. And the story of how Tom Scholz basically created the entire album by himself (except for the vocals) in his basement is legendary.
@michaelmayfield3158
@michaelmayfield3158 Год назад
Facts! Tom Scholz did do the entire album except for like 10 month with some vocal. After about 10 months the singer, Brad Delp RIP, realized there was no band. A label company said for the band to come to CA to record and Tommy said no. The label company force a song from the album to be recorded in CA and I think it was "Take Me Home Tonight." I think Tommy was an graduated engineer from MIT and working for Poloroid at the time. Don't quote me on sentence as it has been many years since I watched the Jananese video that was subtitled in English here on youturd.

Polo - you cannot fathom just how huge this album was! Debut album - every single song was a radio-hit single! EVERY SONG! Yes the lead singer (Brad Delph) had some chops. There are usually 3 male vocalists of that era for rock and roll placed in the Mt Rushmore of chops: Delph, Freddie Mercury as you compared, and Steve "The Voice" Perry of Journey. Every has their own order of the top three - none of them are inherently wrong. But most critics will put these three at the top of the list. If you're ready to explore Journey, the go-to gold Standard is their Live 1981 Houston "Escape" tour. Anything from that is heads and shoulders above nearly all other live bands. "Mother-Father" is widely regarded as the greatest live song among them.

A monster hit in late 1976, early 1977. It was their debut song on their debut album. Recorded in the garage of Tom Scholz, who wrote the song, and who sent the demo tape to Epic Records, who decided to release the album using that very same demo tape. The song is considered one of the best rock songs, ever. And the album considered one of the best debut albums of all time.
@jacksaintjack2844
@jacksaintjack2844 Год назад
It is my understanding that yes, it was recorded in their basement and once the record execs heard it they wanted to set up a time for the band to come into the studio and record it, but Tom Scholz didn't want to. Said it was good as is. So the record execs let the studio wizards listen to it and they said....yes, it's good to go as is. Footnote: Tom Scholz has a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

This is all bullshit. The demo tape could not be played. It's on RU-vid, and you can hear it WANTING to be this album, but on the demo tape, it wasn't even called Hitch a Ride. "California Day". Not a garage, either. It was a full home studio in his basement, and you can't store that equipment in a cold garage. He was an electrical engineer, not a garage band musician, as he's been dubbed by poor researchers. This is the demo, rescued from a trashcan, not used on the album: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-koaL_kd_ObY.html

Long hair was the style back then for young men (and women), starting in roughly the mid-60's and going all through the 70's. When you're young and full of vitality, you can grow some great hair. I grew up in that era, and I had hair so long at one point that it almost reached my belt in the back. We gloried in our long hair! 😊 As for "More Than a Feeling", it might be the most perfectly written and performed rock song of all time. It's certainly in the top 10 or so, if not the best of them all. Between Tom Scholz (who wrote, produced, played most of the instruments on the record, and arranged it all) and Brad Delp (with the utterly amazing vocals) you've got an absolute musical masterpiece in that song. And yes, it does sound like a summer song. Just beautiful.

The famous "wall of sound" of the guitars is legendary, as are the soaring beautiful vocals. One thing to keep in mind is that most of this album was recorded in Tom Scholz’s basement. Boston is one of those bands that stand the test of time and one of my all-time favorites. RIP Brad Delp.

I saw them in 9th grade which would have been sometime in the late 70s. And yeah I guarantee you man, and Brad Delp would sing like that in concert just like that but here's the deal, the backing vocals were also really strong I remember them just bouncing around the interior of this fairly small Arena and it was just a tower of sound and it sounded so good. It sounded so good. And thankfully I don't see any easy way to upload photos from your phone gallery otherwise I would show you that when I was around that age and especially by the time I was in my senior year of high school and a starting baseball player and playing in bands and all that stuff, I had a hair and a mustache that looked an awful lot like that, laugh. I think it was more just a style of the time really.

You watched a shortened (single) version of the song. So you know, Boston is Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. Tom wrote, recorded and produced the album in his basement studio. Home studios were extremely rare in the 1970's. Tom plays ALL instruments except drums (played by Sid Hasian) on the album. The phenomenal Brad Delp does ALL lead and harmony vocals. Tom also designed and built custom effects (the powersoak, hyperspace pedal, doubler and later the Rockman amplifier) to create the legendary Boston guitar sound. Fran Sheehan (bass) and Barry Goudreau (guitar) were added as part of the live band.

POLO, Boston ""More Than a Feeling" is another "etc..." song to add to the Best Ever List!! *Comment from another reaction.* POLO, "Stairway to Heaven" is along the lines of hearing "Freebird" from Skynyrd. These 2 PERFECT songs WILL ALWAYS be near the top of the list no matter what genre, style, or decade it is, etc.....

NOBODY like Boston. What's not to love? Soaring guitars and soaring vocals to die for. They were an absolute force of nature.

I'm so glad you liked the song and when you mentioned riding with the top down, you nailed it, I had an MG and would get off work at 11pm and pop the top and because of this band I'm a little hard of hearing today :D

....As someone who is 60 something Years Young... I had the great pleasure of seeing this performed at a Concert in the late 70's....absolutely phenomenal. It's still at the top of Concerts I've attended, and I've attended HUNDREDS, over many years living in Vegas at the time. Mr. Brad Delp had such range ....Also, I believe he was underrated, which actually escapes me as to " why " .....his Range was incredible, his voice... unmistakable. And dare I say " Legendary "....such a loss, that he left the Earthly Plane in such an unexpected way. This song ,written by Tom Sholz, is actually quite complex, and it is NOT an easy Song to sing... I always felt that this Song was created to have Brad Delp singing it .... the whole Band is ( was ) amazing ,as far as Musicianship . Oh....and the hair ... that was one of the great things about 70's/ 80's/ 90s Music... better than all the " non- hair ' going on today ... but then again..I love long hair on men. I was a bit in awe of this mans ( Brad Delp ) gorgeous hair, eyes, and mustache.

This album dropped about the time I was entering high school. We had never heard anything quite like it. Still haven’t. To this day there’s rarely a day that goes by that I’m not listening to something from Boston. Their song Peace Of Mind sort of became my own personal anthem. Thanks for posting this.

For the longest time, I want to say we'll into the 90s, Bostons' debut album was the highest selling debut album of all time. The entire album is phenomenal beginning to end. Peace Of Mind is a song with a profound message to it.

Brother, if you can find the isolated vocal track, it'll change your life. The version I heard was about 90% vocals, and 10% music, in the background. It was perfect. I've never heard such a pristine vocal-only recording.
