My fathers favorite vocalist, and voice I grew up with. Who in the world would suggest this instead of "It's Just A Matter Of Time", "Rainy Night In Georgia", "You Got What It Take", and "Rockin' Good Way"?
As far as I can remember, Brook Benton was the first singer I heard as a very young child in the late 50's. My father would play, "The Same One" and I wanted him to flip the record, and say, "Daddy play Kiddio, play Kiddio". I play Brook's greatest hits once in a while, and it's refreshing to her a man sing in his masculine voice.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. First time I've heard Brook Benton in years. What a smoothie that guy was, and I'm not talking about something in a blender. He came along at a time when race was still very much on everybody's mind, and kids of all colors loved that guy. Your reactions are so much fun, so keep bringing us those golden oldies.
Brook Benton's most famous song is "Rainy Night In Georgia". He also did "It's Just A Matter Of Time", "Endlessly", "The Boll Weevil Song" etc. Brook did 2 great duets in 1960 with Dinah Washington called "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" & "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around & Fall in Love)".
Oh yeah, Brook Benton is the real deal! And BJ, the way Asia looks at you so lovingly, you ain't got nothing to worry about😂 Ya'll really need to check out more of Brook's music. Before he made it big himself, he wrote songs for artists like Nat King Cole, Clyde McPhatter, and Roy Hamilton back in the 50's. Brook's first big hits, It's Just a Matter of Time and Endlessly came in 59. He also did a couple of duets with Dinah Washington, Baby( You've Got What it Takes) and "A Rockin' Good Way(To Mess Around and Fall in Love). Also, he had another big hit " Rainy Night in Georgia" released in 69. As always, I enjoyed your reaction and comments!❤
There's an old run-down cabin in Gainesville Florida that used to host the "chitlin' circuit", essentially these were places that Black performers could play back in the segregation days. Brook Benton performed there many times, I wish they'd restore that old place!
Probably not the time to chime in with another artist, but have you ever checked out Roots Manuva? Song: 1 Quest… if you’re up for some old old school hip hop (from the U.K.). Curious to get your opinion
