First Time Hearing - BTS JIN - Abyss ( Metal Vocalist Reaction ) 

He wrote this song during that time he was experiencing a burnt out. In his words, "I don't like sharing my negative feelings to army but realized that maybe it's okay if I put it in a song." And so he did, and it's beautiful.

Jin wrote this song with RM, Pdogg, and BUMZU. He was going through a deep depression during covid. He went to Mr. Bang, and he told Jin to write a song about his thoughts and feelings. Jin stopped doing Eat Jin. He lost his appetite. He started sleeping 12 hours a day and gaming 12 hours a day. These are classic signs of clinical depression. Loss of appetite. Jin's weight went down to 120. Sleeping a lot is a classic sign. Losing interest in your favorite hobbies or fun things or relationship is another sign. He stopped making Eat Jin and has never filmed it again. Isolating yourself. When Jin stayed home to just play games and sleep was a sign. He probably felt sad and cried a lot. But here is the good thing...clinical depression is highly treatable. Find a good psychiatrist who can diagnose and prescribe meds for you. And don't feel guilty or ashamed. It's mostly a biological disease. Your brain isn't making enough serotonin. Your doctor can recommend a good therapist. Talk therapy helps. How do I know all of this? I am challenged with clinical depression. My dad died many years ago and that can trigger a depression episode. I luckily found the perfect female doctor and perfect female therapist who helped me. (Male doctors just told me to lose weight. They never diagnosed me correctly as a child.) My doctor said you will be fine. We'll get you some meds and some counseling and you'll be great in about 3 or 4 weeks. And thats what happened. Before that I could barely crawl to the bathroom or even crawl to the fridge to get food. Luckily, I had a doggy that had to go out every day. And that became part of my therapy. I was prescribed to get 45 minutes of sun everyday. If I hadn't lived in Texas I would have bought a light therapy machine. Sometimes all of this help is expensive. Luckily, I had great insurance. But when I lost my job I still needed help. Go and find your cities Health Center. You can get meds and therapy very cheap. It's decided on how much money you make. I got it for free on Medicaid. So be like Jin. If you need help ask for help. He also went to counseling and I believe he was probably on meds too because he healed very fast. (Jin never shared the meds part.) Jin used his music to help heal him. Music Therapy. Art Therapy. Dance Therapy...any therapy works. And here is the deal...this is what therapy is about. It's like going to school, but you are learning things about yourself you didn't know. And you learn new skills to help you cope. No matter who your parents were...they were not able to teach you every life skill you needed. Just so you know being depressed about something and having clinical depression are two different things. Go online to see if you have the symptoms. And go to a doctor to verify your concern. Bravo for Jin to model healthy mental health choices! You can too. I was diagnosed over 40 years ago. I'm still on meds. And I go to therapy if needed. I recommend it highly. It will help you so very much. But if you find a therapist you don't click with...keep looking until you do. Luckily, I've had life- changing wonderful supportive therapists that I treasure to this day. If you want to reply to me... I'd be happy to talk to you and encourage you. Jin was so brave for putting out this song that was so personal to him. This and Tonight were so personal to him and have a sad underling behind them, but are absolute masterpieces! Also the clip of Jin singing was after the song came out. BTS had an online concert for muster in 2021 and when they were sitting down to rest, they were going through their memories and singing some lines from their solo works, Jin chose to sing Abyss

It's hard to think of our sweet Jin struggling but at least he talked about it and got help. I expect sharing a room with Yoongi for so many years meant that he was aware that mental difficulties are not something to be ashamed of. Music is balm to the soul.

Each bts member has a stan who love him so much that they make a completion of them in singing or dancing or being funny. Like a completion of jin singing high notes, or doing an isolated adlibs in their songs, or whatever , I admire those army who searched every concert or show or practice even a few seconds shots just to make. them.

Apparently, Jin wrote this when he was suffering from Imposter Syndrome. BTS was suddenly under the spotlight after songs like Dynamite, Butter, etc. were charting, and Jin felt that he didn't deserve that much attention & love. He spoke about his feelings to Bang PD, and he suggested Jin put his feelings into a song. Jin worried that it might not turn out well (lol!!), and it might have a bad look for the group, but Bang PD told him not to worry about that, and put him in touch with Bumzu, a producer--who, by the way, was the one who did Super Tuna with him, lol. And the rest is history.

You mentioned how Jin sings lyrics perfectly like how we would say it and that means so much! He literally "acts" when he sings. He knows how to express emotions with his voice really well.

The way I gasped when I saw the thumbnail! I was so excited, omg!! xD Now, it might be controversial to say, but "Abyss" is arguably Jin's best solo track to date. It shows his maturity, his growth as an artist, and subtly showcases his amazing vocal talents. I love this song so much, and the lyrics are so very special to me. I'm pretty sure that teaser was at Sowoozoo muster (so, June 2021), so that would've been after the song was released (in Dec '20). (Didn't make it any less amazing to hear him singing it realtime, tho!) This song is even more precious, because Jin generally doesn't want to bring ARMY down by sharing his negative thoughts. The only way he's comfortable doing it is through his music. When you love someone, you embrace all sides of them, so I'm really glad he trusts us enough to show us this side, too. 💜

I love Abyss so much! It is so beautiful! I was so happy they recently released it. JK is the biggest fan of Jin’s solo songs & his voice. I think he has sung them all at some point.

This song was a gift for army on his birthday in 2020 and it just so happened that my mom had suddenly passed away just a few days earlier while I was abroad alone and this one song helped me so much during that time. His voice is just able to touch and comfort me always. This will always have a special place in my heart because of the comfort it gave me during g that time of grief. Whenever ABYSS is discussed, one has to not only be aware of the pandemic cancelling BTS touring plans, one has to acknowledge that Jin was due to enlist in military service year end 2020. ABYSS was released on his 28th birthday, four days after the SK Govt passed what became the BTS Law which extended to age 30 idol groups that met criteria. The pandemic and extension allowed a whirlwind of unforeseen events, including Grammy nominations and performances for Dynamite and Butter, and PTD concerts. What an unexpected and impressive increase in global popularity because of BE. It was quite a roller coaster of emotions for BTS as the Second Chapter referenced by JK at the Grammys had been delayed a year, including their intention to rest and produce solo work. Jin explains so much from his Vlive he held in Buenos Aires about how much he wanted to enter the army after the Grammys in April to avoid spending two winters in the army. Again he was dissuaded from enlisting because of the Busan concert. He said he was hurt from all the public comment criticizing BTS when he always intended to enlist.

there is something in jin's songs and in his voice that always makes me emotional...he wrote this song in a difficult moment but i feel like there's an underlying sadness in all his songs, even moon which is the most upbeat "Though they say I’m beautiful, my sea is all black". When i heard abyss it broke my heart because Jin never shows his sadness or his dark moments, I was glad he found a way to do that through music…

This song is one of my favorites, as Jin is always trying to show us optimism, happyness, self-steam, in this one he came out showing us that he is human, song came out on 3 December 2020 one day before his 28th birthday. As usual whereas he has dropped a few solo tracks in the past, for the most part those were credited to BTS as opposed to him personally. He wrote that song during a time where experienced sort of a guilt, thinking that other people who are more compassionate about music perhaps deserved the success more than he did. Basically what he seems to be saying is that he is suffering from a case of depression, not of the social variety but more like just feeling isolated on the inside. And how cute of JK to sing Abyss and the way he did the high notes (pretty much the same cute way Suga did the high notes for Awake, lol). I read somewhere that JK said only Jin could sing Epiphany, it seems it applies to Abyss as well. All the vocalists have beautiful vocals, but some passages sound specially good when sung by a specific member. And dropping a song about his "not-happy" side as a birthday gift to ARMY? So Jin, and ARMY loves him all the more for it.

Jin doesn't really play piano, not like Yoongi does. None of the others do. Jin has been studying piano, but he's not to Yoongi's level yet. Jin literally memorized the piano part in the beginning of Epiphany just so he could play it on stage for ARMY. He could have tried to fake it but our boys don't do that, so he learned to play just that part. Also, Tae can play a little. And Jimin can only play one song but he plays it well. You can see all three of them play during the first season of In The Soop. Yoongi doesn't play the piano during the show, but he does put his producer hat on.
