A most beautiful reaction🌹🕯🥂🍾! The Soul Glo Jerry Curl 💇🏾‍♂lol! Pauli Carmen and Rena Jones were not a couple. Rena Jones did marry group member Michael Day (keyboards) in 1987. I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Champaign before: How 'Bout Us. Try Again was released as the lead single from Champaign's 1983 album: Modern Heart. It was written by Dana Walden, Rocky Maffitt and Michael Day. It was produced by Champaign and George Massenburg. The song reached #2 on the R&B chart, #6 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #23 on the Hot 100. No information on the music video is available. Song Credits 📝: Pauli Carman - lead vocals Rena Jones (Day) - backing vocals Leon Reeder - guitar Michael Reed - bass Michael Day - keyboards Dana Walden - keyboards Rocky Maffitt - drums Lyrics 🗒: I been starin' at your photograph Wondering where you're at today And I've been hanging by the telephone Hopin' that you'd call home and stay You told me you needed More walks, more talks More feelin' close to me I want to be close to you I didn't know you needed Some roses, some romance A little candlelight and slow dance That's not how it's been But maybe we can try again Try, try, maybe we can try again I remember all the days gone by And I'm wonderin' why I couldn't see I could search the whole world over And never find what you were always giving me I told you I needed More time, more space, more freedom (Free to do) Free to do, girl What you want to do I gave you no roses, no romance No candlelight and no slow dance But that's just how it's been Maybe we can try again Try, try, maybe we can try again Try, try, maybe we can try again, yeah Ooooooh, I remember when You told me you needed More walks, more talks More feelin' close to me I want to be close to you, yeah I'll give you some roses Whole lot of romance A little candlelight (Slow dance) Don't let this feeling end Maybe we can try again Try, try, maybe we can try again Maybe we can try again We can try again Maybe we can try again Maybe we can try again... Champaign Info 📰: Champaign, who named themselves after their hometown of Champaign, Illinois, was initially formed in 1981 out of a previous band called The Water Brothers Band. Members of that band included Dana Walden, Howard Reeder and Michael Day who would eventually become a part of the band Champaign. Champaign group members included: Pauli Carman, Rena Jones (later Rena Day after marrying group member Michael Day), Michael Day, Dana Walden, Leon Reeder, Michael Reed and Rocky Maffit. The band would release four albums between 1981 and 1990 before disbanding. Champaign has appeared on the television shows: Soul Train, Top Of The Pops, Solid Gold and American Bandstand, performing their music. The title track from their 1981 debut album: "How 'Bout Us", was a hit single, reaching No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, No. 4 on the R&B chart, and No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Michael Reed had left the group by the release of their second album: Modern Heart, which appeared in 1983 and contained the No. 2 R&B hit song: "Try Again" (No. 23 Hot 100). Another follow-up album: Woman In Flames (1984), included the No. 10 R&B song: "Off And On Love". Other popular songs from the group included: "Trials Of The Heart" (1989), "Party People" (1981), "This Time" (1984), and "Walkin'" (1983). Lead singer Pauli Carman released his first solo album: Dial My Number, in 1986. The title track: "Dial My Number", was an R&B hit peaking at No. 26. His second album: It's Time, was released in 1987. It featured the single: "In the Heat Of The Night", which peaked at No. 72 on the R&B charts. Champaign band members Rena Jones and Michael Day were married in 1987. In 1990, Champaign, including Pauli Carman, regrouped and released the album: Champaign IV. In addition to Pauli Carman, the album featured writing and production from band members Rena Day, Michael Day, Dana Walden and Rocky Maffit. Although the album was not widely successful, it did herald a brief return to the R&B chart, with the single "Trials Of The Heart" (No. 64 R&B). The group would once again go their separate ways after the Champaign IV album. Pauli Carman would continue to perform as a solo artists in the 1990s while the other members of the band worked behind the scenes writing, producing, contributing to other artists music. Former band member Michael Day passed away 🙏 from cancer on June 7, 2001, at the age of 48. No information on his burial are available. In 2003, a greatest hits compilation album was released and included most of the group's hit songs, though most notably the band's second best song: "Try Again", was absent. By 2008, Pauli Carman, the original lead singer, continued to represent the group. In 2008, he released the album: Carma, included original songs along with a remake of The Beatles' song: "And I Love Her" and the Stevie Wonder song: "I Love, I Love". In 2010, Pauli Carman released the album: Get Back 2 Love, which included the remastered Champaign single: "How 'Bout Us". The album's title track: "Get Back 2 Love", made reference to Champaign's top hits. The same year, the single: "Mercy", a remake of the Marvin Gaye hit "Mercy Mercy Me", was released from the album. This single was to assist those affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A portion of the proceeds was donated to various agencies assisting with the clean up and restoration in the area. In November 2010, Pauli Carman produced The Pauli Carman Show (a television pilot online show). In 2011, Pauli Carmen released the non-album single: "Share". In 2012, Rena Jones (Day) helped produced additional music for the documentary: Neun Monate Winter. In 2013, Pauli Carman released the album: Love Kind. On September 15, 2013, Pauli Carman was presented the National R&B Music Society 'Unsung Hero Award'. In 2014, Pauli Carmen released the album: Eyes Of The Spirit. In 2022, Pauli Carman released the singles: "When Your Heart Beats With Mine" and "Can't Let You Go". The band does not perform live on stage in 2024 although Pauli Carman does make occasional special event appearances as a solo artist and sings some of the group's songs during his set. Miscellaneous Note 🗃: Pauli Carmen's voice was sampled on Salt N Pepa's 1986 hit song: "Push It". It's his voice saying: “Ahh, Push It”, throughout the song. It was sampled from his previous group: Coal Kitchen, 1977 song: "Keep On Pushin'".
