This song is pretty special to me. My Dad ( who I rarely saw growing up) picked me up one day. I was probably 12 years old. He pulls out this 45 and says "You like this band?" and it was this song. Idk why he gave it to me and Idc. Just the fact that he thought of me, long enough to get it and give it to me was good enough for me. He died when I was 17 years old. So here's 🍻 to my Dad. 💕💕💕

His name is Terry Kath, and people need to put some respect on his name! Chicago's debut album Chicago Transit Authority is full of amazing songs! From Beginnings, questions 67 & 68, I'm a man, Poem 58, free from guitar (this is Terry on acid or something cuz it's crazy lol), south California purples. It's an amazing album!

This is what true artistry looks like in an electric guitar solo... There have been many fine guitarists over the years but only a relative handful of humans can create something this complex and masterful on the instrument live, with such force and grit and expression that it just grabs you and carries you away for the whole trip.

CONGRATULATIONS! Best reaction EVER. This song is about when the band took acid late at nite when they had to be in the studio, finishing this (as then unnamed song). Time dragged; someone asked the (very precise minded) recording engineer what the time was. He looked up and said "It's 25 or (2)6 to 4. The guitarist you are watching shred that Fender Strat is Terry Kath, Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist. You rock dude, and music has no colour except all of them, like a rainbow. Early Chicago just shreds expectations. After Terry Kath's death, they had to reinvent themselves, but still make a very good band, though they went more toward ballads, love songs, and softer rock.

This song has always been amazing, from the bassline to the horns to the ASTOUNDING guitar solo, but I think one of the things I love most about it is the idea of staying up late at night, struggling to write a song, just bashing your head against a wall and coming up with nothing and then, just after three thirty in the morning saying "fuck it I'll write about writer's block" and ending up with 25-or-6 to 4.

We lost Terry way too young. The band wasn’t the same when he was gone. Sad story 😢 I was 15 and devastated. Been a fan of this Chicago since I was 10. Im sure you’ve heard many of their songs. I asked a musician friend of mine, who actually studied music, in college, if the title has anything to do with music, or writing. He said no, and that he thinks (recalls) them saying, that it had something to do with the time of day. Many people think it's about doing drugs, all night, but others say it's about staying up all night writing music. I say it's about doing drugs, while you stay up all night writing music, lol.

I crashed my '81 buick regal on hwy 101 in NH,, cruising the white mts in fall. Well a little too much 420 and on my way back home to Boston, I fell asleep... last line I heard was, ... should I try to do some more... BAM! Woke up doing 60 scraping the inner guardrail... lucky it was there or i would have drifted into incoming! Great song! Great review!

It's 25 or 6 minutes to 4 o'clock in the morning. In other words, he's been up all night. I don't know who these guys on the brass are but they are excellent.

I've heard lots of people mention how amazing they were live but I'd never actually seen any of their concert performances until this one... I see what people were talking about. Your reactions capture the raw joy and pleasure of the songs you play--thanks for brightening the days of so many of us locked inside right now. My kids are teenagers and we watch your reactions together, and I have older friends in their 60s and 70s that listen to you too... Your reactions literally bring generations together, man. You're KILLING IT!!!!!! :)

Brother, people have NO IDEA how great of a band Chicago was and how they ticked off all of the boxes, Peter Cetera on bass and his majestic voice, Terry Kath on lead guitar, the horn section and percussionist. Everything was top notch when music was really the focus.. It was treat watching your response to this and discovering this song performance. This was REAL music.

Hey man. Terry Kath just nailed that solo. He shot himself in the head by mistake and died way too young. As someone else pointed out, the song title references the time of the morning Peter Cetera was trying to write this song. He was up all night struggling to write and the rest is history.

You hit the Jackpot with Chicago and "25 6 to 4"! 💖❤💖 🎸🎺🎷🎹... I grew up with their music always playing at home and family events. You have to see them in concert.

Chicago, this lineup, this solo, firing on ALL CYLINDERS! Terry Kath (R .I. P.😢) was such a BRILLIANT Guitarist, Singer... He changed the entire tempo and said "keep up with me". I miss a horn section in music.

I just saw them a few years ago. They were so good. Some of my other favorites are I’m A Man, Beginnings, Wishing You Were Here, Saturday In The Park and Make Me Smile. Just listen to The Very Best of: Only The Beginning Every song is awesome.
