CCR is amazing. I bought their "Chronicles" album in the early '90's when I was around 19yo. My mom kept stealing it from me. She couldn't understand how I liked music from "her generation". So I started stealing her Eric Clapton "MTV Unplugged" CD instead. Sometimes music is just timeless. Check out that Clapton performance when you get a chance, or any of the MTV Unplugged performances for that matter.

John Fogerty who was the singer, lead guitarist, and principle songwriter of CCR, he said that the song was about their impending breakup. The imagery is you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time, and I think it was almost 2 yrs later that they broke up!

@chriswhinery925
@chriswhinery925 2 года назад
@@TheHitmanSF That's... a pretty simple take on what happened. In 1971 John's brother Tom left the band and he said it was because John was basically a control freak. Apparently Stu and Doug had also been complaining that John wouldn't let anyone else write any songs for the band, so after Tom left John finally said "Fine, you know what, fuck it, for the next album all of us will write songs, 3 songs each." That album came out in 1972 and was a failure compared to their other albums. On top of that, the band got completely fucked by their record label, they had what many say is one of the worst deals a band ever made with a label. All of these factors just caused the band to fracture apart, it can't really be blamed on any of them in particular. John would say the band turned their backs on them even though they actually had good reason to be discontent. Stu and Doug and Tom would blame John for being a tyrant, even though their 1972 album made it clear that he was the by far the best songwriter in the group. There's a lot of context and nuance to the story beyond just "the band turned their backs on him".

@@G-grandma_Army Don't buy vinyl. It truly is completely inferior to digital. I say this as one who was born in 1958 and who owned a lot of vinyl. It scratches, develops pops and hiss and warps. Digital has far superior signal to noise ratio, dynamic range and clarity. Plus it never warps, or gets pops and hiss or scratches. Digital is simply superior in every way and is a much better investment. There is this nostalgia for vinyl amongst some groups, but they are just simplistic and don't understand why digital is technically far superior.

I hate to say it but Brad is not the best person to take Lex into this musical journey. I'm not hating on brag he seems like a kool dude but he has no understanding of rock music, the style, the history, and its meaning... Brad i was raised in the 70's the era of record albums, we had no music videos, half of the time we had no lyrics, and you couldn't understand all the words. Rock music is about a feeling and how it moves you and it doesn't have to make everyone feel the same way, In a band the vocalist is another instrument and they tend to use words to add to the song. Brad I understand this music may not be your cup of tea and thats fine. thanks for giving it a try, But Rock and roll is a feeling, a vibe, a magical journey and as far as the videos. 98% of the time they are created by people that no nothing of the band or even the song. When MTV first came on the scene, there was two was to make a video, make a video and try to capture the essence of the song or make a video with nothing to do with the song, and now here 40 yrs plus they create a video with the sole purpose now to only cash in on the song, totally killing the song. so first listen to the song, and if you like it then read the lyrics, and if they make sense good, it you can relate to them, great!, and finally if the video makes sense to the song you have grand slam in it. So just listen don't over analyze it and if you don't believe me turn you head the left and look at LEX! I see her reaction and I'm drawn back 50 yrs. and remember my first reactions to the song, styles and feeling that she's sharing on this platform. much love and rock on!

I think their cover of 'I Put A Spell On You' is the best, and it's well worth a listen.

I grew up with my old man blasting the heck out of CCR every weekend.. It's part of the reason why I could digest Rock music easily, given I was subconsciously inducted into the genre as a youngen.. This led me on a path to Black Sabbath, Acdc, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and so on and so on...

She’s always insightful. No song is worth listening to if it can’t be appreciated without the visual.

This is an official CCR video for the song’s 50th anniversary, featuring Jack Quaid and Erin Moritary who appear on Amazon’s The Boyd. Incredibly, the song only reached number one on a Billboard chart in 2021! 50 years after its original release.

Not reading the 600+ comments, but from what I read, this song is about the impending breakup of CCR...Where John leaves the band.
