My mothers name was Eileen and this was her favourite ever song, sadly she died a few months ago. Me and my sister arranged to have this played at the end of her funeral, without anyone knowing beforehand. It really lifted everyones spirits and put smiles on their faces , such an uplifting tune.

One of my absolute favourite holiday memories is this coming on in a dive bar in the middle of Slovenia a few years ago and everyone just 'moving', as Brad describe, while trying to sing it in extremely broken English. Man, I remember being 17 in 1983 working at a pizza place for $3.15 an hour, minimum wage at the time, and my best friend was the assistant manager and after work we'd go back to his apartment and hang out and he didn't have cable to watch MTV but he could pick up TBS and TBS had a show called "Friday Night Videos" and they ran a lot of the same videos in the same rotation week after week and this video came on, and then Donna Summer "She Works Hard For The Money", then Kajagoogoo "Too Shy", then Spandau Ballet "True", then a few commercials, then Pat Benatar "Love Is A Battlefield", then Duran Duran "Rio" then Robert Plant and The Honeydrippers "Sea of Love" LOL If you were there you know what I'm talking about! Reading history books is one thing, but it's nothing like being there and living through it. I mean, when Miami Vice would come on they would advertise at the bottom of the screen that it was "In Stereo". Every episode of that series was like a miniature movie because the soundtrack had everything happening in the 80's, and every major TV and blockbuster movie star had a guest appearance on Miami Vice! Liam Neeson, Wesley Snipes, Julia Roberts, John Leguizamo, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jeff Fahey, Kelly Lynch, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jimmy Smits, Ed O'Neill, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Ving Rhames, and as far as musicians they had Miles Davis, James Brown, Glenn Frey, Gene Simmons, The Power Station, Little Richard, Frankie Valli, Ted Nugent, Frank Zappa, Sheena Easton and Phil Collins. It had beautiful photography, a lot of action, great music, beautiful cars, money, drugs, hookers, everything you want when you're living the good life! LOL

Dexys started as a post punk/soul band (their first album was a masterpiece) and their second album was this style. Kevin Rowland (main man and singer) completely changed musical direction but kept some horns. The fiddles and banjo were from Irish music (his parents were Irish and he lived in Ireland for a few years as a child). The “too ra loo ra” bit is from Irish folk music where you’d occasionally have sections that were made up of words that didn’t mean anything. Like scat music.
