Heard Boy George didn't think it would be a hit...and funnily enough, supposedly others thought THIS wouldn't be a hit. Both sides were wrong about the respective songs, obviously.
Back in the early 80’s, Boy George was quite shocking to the older generation- a boy in full makeup! Such a beautiful voice...my friends and I loved him!!
When I was a baby my mother played the radio so that I could sleep through anything. When I learned to speak I was singing songs from the radio. They say I used to walk around singing this song and Hall & Oates “Maneater”
My mum always played the radio all day and when dad wasn't around she would pick up me or my sister and dance around making us giggle and laugh , she still plays the radio and me and my sister haven't lived at home for decades 💗
Church of the Poison Mind is another great Culture Club song, but my personal favorite is Victims. I saw them in concert in 1998 and when they did that song, it knocked us all on our butts.
Culture Club was a highly famous group from the 1980s. Other songs are: ""Miss Me Blind"", "" Do You Really Want to Hurt Me"", ""Clock of the Poison Mind"",etc.
"I'll Tumble 4 Ya" and "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" and "Miss Me Blind" for them. A similar style band suggestion Dead or Alive "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)."
honey, these reaction videos are a great trip down memory lane! and I didn't think the younger generation was paying attention..except to sample it.as a child of the eighties I appreciate it.
This song takes me back to the 80’s, great era. The 80’s were a blast, complete freedom, no responsibility in my life yet. Had both my parents alive. 💔 Man you talk a lot, more than Kelly Clarkson Lol 😂 This song made him famous then, it was huge.
I know this is about Culture club , but this is about a band I know You like ( Queen!) Queen are the Group , Freddie Mercury is the lead Singer ! , anyway , I think You need to see Freddie Mercury perform Barcelona , it's awesome ! Enjoy .
Rome Life, If your looking for a song by Culture Club that might be a little easier to dance to I suggest "I'll Tumble For You" might be one that you could give a listen to. Pop music back in the 80s was such a mixed bag of sounds, rips, and ideas. Hope that you enjoy listening to more Culture Club. ;-) ;-) ;-)
I dont understand why all reactors are suggested this particular Culture Club song. It hasnt aged that well. I would send Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Miss Me Blind, Time, and Church of The Poisoned Mind.
Culture Club song Time ( Clock of the Heart ) is a good song. Also Church of the Poison Mind. Some of their earlier stuff had a good Afro-Caribbean beat influence. I think one of the reasons this song was so popular was because of the video, the visuals, costumes and bright colors. ( obviously the catchy beat too ) Do you Really Want to Hurt Me was probably their biggest hit.
Culture Club is a group from England. They are one of my favorite groups. The lead singer is Boy George!!! U need to pull-up another favorite group of mine call Kajagoogoo and listen to their song ""Too Shy""!!!
Love Boy George and Culture Club. Try Church of the Poison Mind, Miss Me Blind, Its a Miracle, Time Clock of the Heart, or Do You Really Want to Hurt Me. Thanks.🙂
Thank you for giving this one a go and being honest about your reaction! There have been songs that I didn’t know how I felt about them until a few months or to a year after first hearing. And they turned out to be some of my most favored! Very much enjoy your reactions.
This song's pretty good. It was a radio hit, and all that. But more importantly, this was during the early days of MTV, when music videos were a big deal, and when gender fluidity, transgender people, etc., were still considered quite shocking. Boy George's look, at this time in history, was extremely shocking to many people. It was one of the little things that helped shape LGBT history.
Back in the 80s I preferred "do you...hurt me" over this, but for me this one aged better. I can listen to this anytime, but I have to be in an 80s-retro-memory mode to really get lost in "do you really..." these days. Still, love them both!!!
Tony Regime COTPM is great! But Helen Terry steals the vocals from George on that one. 😉 To hear his voice fully, “Do you really...’ is a better track for Rome to react to, IMO.
The lead singer is Boy George, an male/female figure and also an excellent singer. He had several big hits, ran into ( I think ) some drug issues, then came back.
I always liked Karma Chameleon because it just puts me in a good mood. Simply a smoothe, happy vibe to it. By the way, you have a great channel. I check it out every day. Addicted. The work you put into it is appreciated.
Ahhhh, one of my favorite earworms! :D I see that my opinion is not a popular one in the comments. Oh well. It's springy, and I'm hopelessly partial to it.
I was 15 years old in the projects of jersey city this is when hip-hop was coming of age mtv didn't play rap music until the end of the 80,s beginning of the 90, they told us what it was when it started a rock channel rap wasn't considered as real music it was urban or street music not for the mainstream its nice that 30 something yrs later you can pick up your phone or laptop and watch any thing you want we didn't have that choice have a good one
The scene is based on Mississippi River Boat Gambling in the 1800s but was filmed on the River Thames in England... Another great one from the 80s is RIO by DURAN DURAN .That is an awesome vid and seems brand new almost since it came out 38 years ago...
I had a teenager when this song was popular. I had never seen anything like him. But I really liked it. I think it's bouncy. But I like to sing along rather than dance, even though the words don't really make a lot of sense. I also liked Twisted Sister, We're Not Gonna Take It. It's not easy listening to your kids' music.
I love Culture Club, but I wouldn't say their music is dance music. Maybe "Church of the Poison Mind" would be better, but they may not be your thing. I appreciate your reactions - truthful. We don't have to love everything. :)
Boy George was the singer. You reacted to Annie Lennox awhile back, George was kind of similar in that his look like was very androgynous, but his sound was almost like pop r&b, if that makes sense. They were pretty popular in the early 80’s when MTV was starting to be big and when they showed music videos, not reality shows.
Great song, But my favorite by Culture club is The War Song. I was born in 1989 but grew up listening to 80's music, because of my parents playing cds from artists of this decade. Must react to Cyndi Lauper, unique, wild with a great voice. Money Changes Everything, Change Of Heart were some of my favorite songs by her from the 80's & her 90's hit That's what i think.
Karma chameleon like the lizard. Actually the first time I heard this song was on a video game. This songs is in Saints Row 2. In the game you can actually purchase this song in a record store lol.
You should listen to _'Time (Clock of the Heart)'_ by *CULTURE CLUB* and _'True'_ by *SPANDAU BALLET,* at least. Perhaps also _'The Chauffeur'_ by *DURAN DURAN* and _'Pour Some Sugar on Me'_ by *DEF LEPPARD* to get a bit more perspective on pop music of the 80s by British bands. _'Wrapped Around Your Finger'_ by *THE POLICE* and almost anything by *THE THOMPSON TWINS* are good choices too. I think that *SIMPLY RED* is a British band too.
Since you’re featuring eighties songs: Pass the Dutchie by musical youth, brass in pocket by the pretenders, something about you by level 42, hold on by en Vogue, start me up by The Rolling Stones, sweet love by Anita baker, genius of love by the Tom Tom club, I left my wallet in el segundo and Bonita applebum by a tribe called quest.
Oh I think this was "cute" music for its time, but haven't listened to it ever since. There is a lot more interesting period stuff than Boy George/Culture Club. To me, anyways. A little later, but maybe try So Alive., by Love and Rockets. INXS also had some good eighties stuff. & Tears for Fears. But I'm going to hold out here for my love, Annie Lennox (also in a group called The Eurythmics. A Diva's voice.)
They are British and it is the mid 80,s there is no social media there is only 2 music video shows and they didn't really like to play black artists so there were a lot things you heard but didn't see
