Besides the incredible artist he was (with an unconventional range of voice in the 80’s) Daniel Balavoine was also a on-hand humanitarian. One of his best album "Loin des yeux de l’Occident" (translate : Far away from Occident’s eyes) was entirely made of songs praising African, Arabian and Asian cultures. All the pieces of this album were red lights on the way the poorest people on the planet were mistreated by the richest ones, the depressing and lonely way of life in urbanized area and the necessity to make the world acting with solidarity. He joined an NGO which creates student communities to raise funds for Africa and died in the crash of the helicopter he was in over Mali during the Paris-Dakar racing in 1986, where he was taking the opportunity to manage the building of water pumps in isolated villages.
My favourite from Daniel absolute masterpiece, and his voice of course is his most beautiful instrument. So powerful! He was to collaborate with Peter Gabriel at the time he had released this album which contains lots of Fairlight effects, like Peter Gabriel did, he was a huge inspiration for Daniel.
